Spiral Knights is a top-down, dungeon exploring action MMO. It plays similarly to the 2d Zelda games.

Improved, community-made launcher:
https://github.com/lucasluqui/KnightLauncher?tab=readme-ov-file
It appears there will be an update very soon that will update the Java version that the client uses. When this happens the Knight Launcher will probably be down for a bit.

are you telling me the knights are spiralled

first keep in mind you have to increase it's appetite by clearing levels with it equipped. sprite food may be indicated as it's favorite, but you can and should only feed it any other material you have in your inventory, keep the sprite food for level ups. higher star materials will progress the heat bar further than lower mats, to the point you may not feel progress at all if you only feed it 0 star mats.

>>2244169
you gotta collect color-coded crystals during floors, it gets shared between other players so stacking them is good if everyone is running the same sprite, the colors are as follows:
>red = drakon
>yellow = seraphynx
>purple = maskeraith
green and blue are useless iirc. once you ccllect enough you gotta craft them at food vendors (reskinned crafting ones), or you could alternatively feed your sprite appropriate materials.
battle sprite training is one of, if not, the worst grind of this game, excluding being a smartass and not going with the standard issue equipment you get from rank missions.
>>
>>2244185
>green and blue are useless iirc
technically they are not useless since sometimes they will be a requested item for the daily prestige mission
in fact when it asks for minerals is basically the only time that mission is worth doing

yes. in fact it has one of my favourite boss fights in any game, the roarmulus twins. where the party basically has to solve a switch puzzle to raise and lower gates while the boss fight is ongoing in order to make the 2 bosses hit each other with their attacks. very creative boss design.
>>
>>2245158
I've always been interested in playing it but never had the time to try it out, plus all the reviews would often say it's extremely grindy. I'll give it a try. Any tips you could give to a brand new player?

the main progression gates are the 'hall of heroes' where you can only access certain missions if your gear meets the requirements of a certain tier of armor, helmet, shield, and weapon (you need 1 of each)
so for example if you're approaching the 4-star hall of heroes, don't waste materials on making 2 4-star weapons if you haven't made the other pieces yet. make sure you have at least one of each before you branch out because then you'll spend less time at those progress blocks.

I was doing a Golden Rook Gate elite run from Depth 0 to grind some basic materials and by the third or fourth level down I was thrown into an arena stage with two other players and told in a tooltip that I couldn't progress at all unless I fought in the arena against them. I don't understand how or why. I just decided to leave back to Haven because fuck that.

lmao what. Arenas are normal pve stages, you just misinterpreted the tooltip. Arenas have 3 battles of increasing difficulty with an elevator to the next floor after each one. The tooltip is just saying that you can leave after the first fight instead of doing all three.

if you play the game a lot and actually get dedicated to it, you can get silver pretty easily with some decent merchanting and fsc'ing
but if youre just gonna stay around a few days then yeah, no way you can get silver PC
>>2246955
yeah its a shame, once you reach *5 it has such great deliberate combat. This should have been the golden standard for the genre but sadly it was too underdeveloped to be influential.
>>
>>
>>2247372
make sure you're on elite difficulty.
for 3* orbs farm mission 5-2 Rise or Fall
for 4* orbs farm mission 6-2 Sewer Stash
for 5* orbs farm vanaduke and buy energy with crowns then buy orbs for energy

>>
>>
>>2247402
what are you talking about. i got 1300+ crowns from a NORMAL jelly king run yesterday. not even elite. elite vanaduke gives ~8000 crowns per run. 4k crowns is basically nothing at the point in the game where you need 5* orbs. and the orbs below 5* can be farmed pretty easily rather than bought.
>>
>>2247372
also bear in mind green treasure boxes have an extremely low chance to drop rarities (fire crystals/orbs of alchemy) so you want to basically farm missions with lots of RED treasure boxes since those are the ones that have a good chance of dropping rarities.

adding to this, 6-1 Axes of Evil is also surprisingly good for hunting advanceds and elites, although may get mind-numbingly repetitive. bring your farthest reaching gun and run to the small treasure cache to southwest of the start of the first floor. open the boxes and shoot the ones across the chasm too. vial throws and charged shots are the furthest reaching projectiles. if they reveal an orb, run the level to grab it, if not, restart the mission.

18k crowns for 3 elite orbs, need 15 to craft 4 star gear to progress which is 90k crowns am I missing something or is this game just cock and ball torture, I haven't seen a single orb drop in the 40 hours i've played
>>
>>
>>2248343
what missions are you playing? for 4* orbs you want to farm some very specific missions. here's a guide: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=268682827
there's also some useful information about farming routes in the comments so check there. I'd start with farming the first floor of 6-2 sewer stash. or if you havent unlocked that yet, 5-2 jelly king.

After the update, I couldn't get the game to start anymore. I've been using the Steam version. I had to not only uninstall, but also delete the game's folder manually.
Then, I reinstalled it from Steam, didn't apply the custom launcher or anything, and it worked, hasn't crashed either.

If you want to metafag then the best swords are Brandish types (Archeron, Combuster, Gladius, Voltedge). You can buy a Brandish and upgrade it from there using crafting.
The other good swords are the Sealed swords (Divine Avenger and Gran Faust), need 20 jelly tokens for that one, and the DLC Hammer.
Also get Swiftstrike Buckler. Yes its still good at 5*.
>>
>>2249586
>So you won't like ruin the game or something if you play with new players?
Nope, it'll just be faster, especially if the player with the higher gear knows how to beat bosses. Like Jelly King, get that fucker high on the Poison status and melt him down.
>>2249587
Adding to this anon, be careful with Gran Faust if you go for it, it can inflict Curse on enemies AND you if you use the charge attack. Curse will randomly mark some of your weapons and items, and if you attempt to use those marked items, you will be damaged, and it last for 40 seconds.

Gearsets are pretty optimized, Perfect Seerus mask is a must if you have the DLC.
Otherwise Chaos seems to be the sweaty choice if you're going to be good at dodging
If you want a safety net and are okay with committing to gunslinging, Shadowsun and then a Swiftstrike buckler is a decent enough set
Black Kat is sorta endgame but not really easily obtainable. I've never seen Margrel/a book in my entire time playing although maybe that's a lack of effort on my part.
>>
>>2252494
It completely 100% depends on the guns you want to use, but a lot of gunner armor is a massive pain in the ass to get, so I'm going to tell you now - use the gunslinger set (cowboy hat and poncho) when they become available, and use guns with large magazines (3+ shots) to make use of the attack speed. This is by far the easiest gunner gear to get, you can just buy the recipes from the vendor in 5-2 hall of heros. Before that, just use whatever. Cyclops helm is good.

Nah, this is just really shitty trolling. If you actually knew how to fix those issues, you'd have replied with that instead of saying
>uhhh, try a LLM? saaars. it work for me with no issue
I think like the others you changed your locale, and the game worked on your older hardware the first time, and you never once saw a completely silent crash.
Otherwise, you'd have been left with no information to search for, and little to do beyond what you already knew about getting older games to work. And you'd probably be making unconstructive posts about the mmo fags instead.

Well, this is the kind of situation I'm thinking about too. Not just the swarm slimes, but there's plenty of situations the game has intentionally spawned too many enemies for anyone to fight. Sometimes they even have shield mechanics in huge swarms. So you can neither shoot nor sword.

bombs can be pretty fun but brandish charges are better than bombs as a whole probably 90% of the time. you really need quite a few specialized bombs to really be effective with them, theres only a couple all purpose ones and they arent that good especially on their own or without slot upgrades to have a sword on you. bombs for the small little fuckers in compounds is valid though, those things are queer and deserve to be nuked.

Yeah I'm sad they ruined my WIFE the WINMILLION and made it PURE SLOP. All those years waiting for a tier 5 and this is what it is? Man..
>you wanna try rephrasing that, buddy?
Anything over 50 ping is unplayable as a swordsman. Hit by nothing. Hit mid combo on a stunned enemy. Hit out of the charge attack midway through the explosions already going off by something now halfway across the screen. God forbid you are in a swarm situation cause being hit is now inevitable no matter how well you set up your approach. Now I know why my friend went with the troika line when playing. I guess a lot of anons are in the EU or something cause this is pretty bad. Was fine back in the day. Just weird and frustrating.
Also I already have a full 5 star set of swordsman stuff including several 5 star swords. One of which is the archeon. Which is so close to obsessively meta already that it's fine. Which I had already finished back around the swap from mist energy to the current system. It's also ASI based and I prefer that for swording if it comes to it. I don't gain much making alternate swordsman gear.
May as well try something new, and I've noticed bombing is the part of the trifeca most unfilled. Between status and space clearing, most groups need either of those really bad. One more 5 star swordsman won't help most situations. I did a trial run in 3 star gear and it felt a lot better till we obviously hit tiers I couldn't hang in with 3 star gear. One ASI swordsman can assasinate a problem mob in 3 seconds flat, but that's also not a niche the current playerbase seems to need.
>>
>>2255440
I feel the need to clarrify something.
I don't have a lot of gear. I have some neat stuff, but really only the one usable 5 star set which was intended for Vanaduke back before the mission system. Some alternate stuff useful for lower tiers before the boss for niche situations.
I have not been playing all this time! I quit many years ago then saw the thread on /v/ and came back.
>>
>>2255440
the ping issues are very hit or miss, solo is completely fine 95% or the time but multiplayer is a crapshoot. if ping is fucking with you though charging become more reliable, not less. unless youre surrounded from all sides AND have full aggro. all you have to do is find literally anywhere you can breathe for one (1) second, dash there, and delete something with your charge.
>It's also ASI based
honestly i barely get anything out of asi on brandishes, the combo is more of a "good enough" attack for when you dont have the time or space to charge. flourishes are much better if you just want to smack shit fast (you can shield inbetween attacks to get the first swipe three times instead of stabbing if you need and it feels great to do so)
>>
>>2255457
forgot to mention
holding shield for half a second, initiating charge, then dropping shield will save you time and let you move more precisely for the charge, works for both swords and guns, especially great for the autoguns to skip the long ass useless first attack. requires a little practice to get down reliably.
>>
>>2255457
I'm sure one day I'll go completely insane and just make the chaos set and live with the pain of status affliction for INCREDIBLE COSMIC POWER and do nothing but charge attacks on stuff.
Also anon, you're supposed to use the three star shield too. You're not a WEAKLING are you? The final bit of ASI from that is a huge difference to the point you need to mind how fast you click. Unless something is corner trapped, you'll attack too fast and miss some hits. The build is basically a fire resist build that can use the archeon's charge if needed for space clearing but primarily for basically assassinating one target after another. Again, meant for Vanaduke back in the day. It's only real problem is the clot issue that seems to be hosing groups hard.
But I figure a bomb suit will be fun. Besides, brandishes are OP, but I can say from experience there are practical issues with saying, "Why don't we all just uses max charge reduction brandishes?" in actual practice. I already have a 4 star ready to turn in to a nitronome from back then and the 4 star electric field. Just need at least one more status bomb to swap between and then work on 5 staring everything. Then I can still keep my snarl shield or ASI shield on with my archeon if it really comes to it.
Most of this game's content is not that hard, and doing the nonsense stuff they have added will need far more money to get the right random qualities on everything and such. At which point it's probably better to just spend some real money if it came to seriously playing long term again.

Anons have no idea. I used to spend 20-50 bucks a month on this game back when mist energy is a thing and this is still all I have to show for it. That is INSANE. One 5 star armor set, a few 3 five star swords, a couple bombs, and two usable guns. Well, I have some alternate 4 star armors for lower tiers for damage type reasons, but now that I'm back I just live with the pain of wearing vog cub to everything.
Oh and Snarl set wasn't even a set you could just.. make. You had to get to the shadow lair, and that was pure RNG if you could even do that. Couldn't even buy your ass in there. So, yeah, ASI set.
Man this game was a trip back then. Too bad the swap to the current system came a bit too late.
>>
>>2255484
i would just make the chaos set instead of the bomb suit, having ctr max on everything without needing to whale for uvs is sooo nice to have. especially if youre going to be using not max leveled bombs, you will be missing that extra ctr a ton.
>Also anon, you're supposed to use the three star shield too
duh, i have a vog cub set to max out asi and if im using that then im probably going to be using my gran faust or flourish instead of a charge nuke.
>I can say from experience there are practical issues with saying, "Why don't we all just uses max charge reduction brandishes?"
ive never had an issue running all brandishes though probably half of my 1k hours is solo and i havent really played in a year so i dont know what the current playerbase is like skillwise, everyone should be running a utility weapon in their second slot though.
>>
>>
>>
>>2255512
Slumming it right now with 2 slots, but I had a third unlocked always back then. Yeah, why wouldn't you take a useful bomb? I have a 3 star vortex too for that reason. It's not there to even deal damage, but I feel like it's been nerfed in the intervening years?
>>2255505
Part of my issue may be the meta has shifted out from under me. I played back primarily when MIST was a thing. Only a little in to the shift to the current model, but they also reconfigured a lot of stuff a bit by bit over time. A lot of stuff wasn't simply.. available.. just cause you have the wealth. Pure aching RNG on even being able to buy it was for a lot more stuff than it is now, and even health/heart/capsule drops were much rarer. The new rate has to be something insane like 50x over the original. Taking ANY damage or status was a complete disaster for your run. Tension was super high, and it took energy to use every elevator and revive. With only 100 free energy every 26 hours.
Vog cub with archeon as my primary sword, the buckler, and some alternate useful things was just.. sensible. Fire is the WORST especially when farming Vanaduke was the go-to activity. Now? Yeah, I'd probably make different decisions. Max CTR and DMG for being ruined by statuses? Whatever. Things can't hurt me if they are DEAD, and now we free revives.
>>
>>2255457
solo is functionally the same as multiplayer lag-wise, you must be joining someone who defaults to a different server where you have worse internet
>three times
you can swap swords just like you can swap guns, except you can do it thrice. like you can attack with the flourish 3 times and then switch
(or attack twice and then do the finishing thrust instead as it hurts more)

You know what I'd think would make Bombs better/possible easier to fully focus into? Let us use them like the Gremlin Demos. Make the throwing range shorter than any Gun, but when they hit enemies, they quickly explode in a small radius, dealing whatever damage type they do (i.e. Dark Briar Barrage will do it's usual Piercing damage). The charge for them stays the same.

Bombs are mostly about niche value. Graviton for grouping, shivermist crowd control, etc. I'm not going to shit on anyone who wants to run full bombs and use the DPS bombs but it's mostly a support class where swords are pure DPS and guns are safer DPS with some niche uses too (Polaris does huge CC, even if it can be annoying in a party, Blitz does more burst than any sword can hope to do, etc)

This game seems pretty small in scope from a new players' perspective, I kind of expected... more, I guess.
Three daily prestige missions, four different arcade branches and the story missions that you've already completed or are cockblocking you with their gear requirements.
The loot kinda sucks, too. Everything is so incremental.
>>
>>
>>2256283
And frankly most games are the same missions pretending to be different one. The combat in Spiral Knights is at least somewhat varied and actually really interesting.
But if you could slam out a five star set in a day or two, what would be the point?

I still think the endgame progression should be accelerated, like once you have a full 5* set you should be able to grind the next one faster somehow (hidden multiplier that increases the chance of getting orb drops?) or like even better FSC economy or something
>>
>>2255928
It literally is. You are connected to the same server. There is literally nothing that changes in terms of how much server you have to go through when you are playing solo
If you find yourself having more lag in multiplayer, its either just
>poor luck
>someone let 999 scarabs alive in apocrea
>(most likely) you joined someone who plays in servers of another region, you can see the instance selector in the top right when at haven
>>
>>
>>2256233
Specific monster damage bonuses are considered trash tier for the most part
Why would you want a weapon that specifically does +high damage against Constructs when you could have a weapon that does +high damage universally to everything it hits?
>>
>>
I doubt it as I've looked through the modding discord, but were there any mods for making the UI scale up better? I'm only on a 2k screen but it's still so crusty.
I'll probably just downscale my resolution, as annoying as checking on this thread is after doing that.
>>
>>2256385
I mean that's fair, I think? Ultimately they've settled on shilling cosmetics anyway, and that's perfectly fine. I think the issue comes down to it's first monetary model still having it's fingers in too many design choices to just.. change. Also, unfortunately, other anons were right. In the face of things like Chaos Cloak, how many 5 star sets do you need? From there you just need to find which weapon classes you actually like the feel of. Honestly, beyond the need to trick out my existing stuff in UVs and get trinkets, I could probably live in my vog cub permanently.
Also, it all comes together faster than it feels like. The game just take a LOT of energy as survival takes a lot of concentration. One session through the clockwork can feel like hours. Might be a sense of time dilation when in truth, had I not been spending my effort on finalizing my look, I could have had more 5 star stuff in the few days I've been playing.
Also people don't spam Vanaduke anymore which they really should be if they want more money for more stuff that badly.
>>2256405
>>2256474
There's.. a lot of stuff like this that doesn't really matter. At times I question what they thought people should play like. Having armors for every situation isn't really that useful.
>>
>>
>>2256974
I'll agree in general terms. A lot of things are just.. bad. Why would you EVER?
Well, I'll repeat something from other posts. I don't have a perfect memory of what you could or couldn't get on demand in the Mist Energy days, but I do remember some of what are now considered stock armors (thanks to being in the Hall of Heroes after you rank up) were not things you could just buy in town. A lot more stuff was Basil only. And some smaller details were different in crafting stuff and leveling it. Back then you had the choice of making something easier to obtain but obviously more limited in usefulness.
And then you have the fact it was designed to be a quarter muncher. Arcade style. You were lucky to get one heart per level, healing capsules were rare, no auto revive, no sprites, and so on. They've done a lot to make the game outright easier. But when taking even one hit probably ends your entire run, suddenly having overly specific gear for every single situation isn't so insane? I have a 4 star suit JUST for playing in levels with fiends cause getting hit by a chair you didn't see thrown is too devastating to not have shadow resist. If you go down, you hope someone is feeling generous enough to give you half their health to revive you.
Chaos Cloak used to be for insane nerds who were confident they could play 100% clean. I had never considered making it back then.
>>
>>2256405
>>2256474
The reason it's whatever is that you have easy access to universal +damage via black kat and chaos sets, and they don't stack well with tribal damage. But I'm not building those, so it'd be useful to have a sidearm to switch to that's just really strong against constructs. You can't design your game around metafags. You have to make it playable for everyone else too.
>>2257017
Even if the game were more punishing, people of today would still use the high damage set. We've discovered what the broken weapons and strategies are. You can get maxed out charge time and damage on your brandish charges that do a million damage to the whole screen, there's no reason not to build it. Damage is defense, burst damage even more so.

Well, I can tell the red daily missions are 100% intended to do with absolutely tricked out gear that deletes the screen. I tried one a few days ago with others and we got wiped, and this setup was made to farm Vanaduke back in the day. It's like I'm walking around in 3 star gear. Freakish.
And I used to be so scared of those wheels. That was the one part of every Vana you knew if this group had what it took or not. One day I realized you just rush up and hope you have a way to escape if the wheels come at you. No better way. And now that I'm back, who cares? A little damage isn't a big deal.
Man, this game has so much neat stuff, but yeah BRANDISH and CHAOS CLOAK it up. Cause I'm tired of spinning my wheels not able to do half the stuff in the game they added.
>>
>>2256769
Yeah, same.
>dodge fine on my own, don't miss my slow sword attacks
>join a public lobby
>hit radius for enemies seems to massively increase
>suddenly taking hits everywhere and dropping spaghetti on minor puzzles
It definitely feels like getting a large amount of ping added, and not just having another player moving enemies.
>>
>>2257041
And this is why I have a full vog cub setup from back in the day. If I had to pick an easy first gear to get, that was it. Then I started on others, but the game emptied out. Swapping out of Mist was too little too late. I do hope a few anons stick around at least. This game is great despite it's flaws and weird jank.
You will not find another game that plays like this, and you probably never will.
>>
>>2257053
>You will not find another game that plays like this, and you probably never will.
I don't see why. Isn't this a pretty standard Hack n Slash? Its biggest strength is that the art team knocked it out of the park.
>>
>>
>>
>>2257036
you can buy it from other players, but its cheaper and easier to do that during the BK season. it comes around every few months
>>2257046
the game is pretty skill based, in a way. eventually, specially after clearing the red missions with busted gear, you will get more and more able to do it with subpar gear or worse weapons youre experimenting with for fun. of course great teammates goes a long way
The real rape is Grinchlin Assault, a christmas-exclusive red mission
im not home right now but im down to danger missions with you guys, im a bit rusty but have plenty of maxed out gear and can usually comfortably solo those

theres genuinely no online rpg/mmo type thing with deliberate weighty combat like spiral knights, sadly
you can find better in other genres, but in online rpgs youre out of luck. At most you get something that is a worse version of roll souls (ie; no rest for the wicked) that is just a coop game instead of mmo-style

Phantasy Star Online, the first one technically had similar combat and mechanics to Spiral Knights, just a lot clunkier and way more in favour of ranged/magic damage dealing and a lot less emphasis on mobility.
>>
>>2258031
>in favour of ranged/magic damage dealing and a lot less emphasis on mobility.
which basically kills the whole appeal because its a lot more about braindead undeliberate ranged attack spamming rather than actually being precise and good at pressing buttons, interacting with enemies, dealing with environmental stuff, flinches and cc, etc
back when i was younger i used to assume spiral knights was a sillier dumber simpler game compared to the rest of the genre and most action games, but now after playing other stuff, i realise its literally the gold standard of what the genre should have been. Sure, more fleshed out movesets, enemies etc would be great but its the opposite of everything that makes online / action rpg combat typically so bad
anyway whos up for some danger missions??

I'd be genuinely happy to see them unfuck some of the code debt, add a bit more content and hopefully get a new surge of players. I don't ever expect this game to be some huge mainstream hit but I absolutely do think it should have like 4-5x the amount of players it has right now and be a solid niche title that brings in enough revenue to be sustainable and see some active development.

>>
>>
>>2258825
Honestly, maybe. This is the kind of game that i think would work really well on the Steam Deck, format-wise, and there's probably a significant amount of people who'd pick it up and enjoy it if they got a bit of advertisement going.

Top 5 cutest knight armors
1. Kat line
This upgrades from 3 stars to 5 stars and all of them look good. At 3 star it has a sad sack covering your face, at 4 star a sleeping/happy cat face hood, and at 5 star it wakes up and you get a scarf... All of them have their own appeal.
2. Wolver line
Serious fur and a cute face. I also like how it looks as actual armor. Not that it'd be realistic armor, but the layered front and the fur really looks like it would block some damage.
3. Angelic Line
This armor set looks more classic than other armor sets that were here from the beginning of the game, somehow. Has a skirt and ponytail, so its one of the more feminine armors.
4. Almirian Crusader
A sidegrade to the Cobalt/Azure Guardian line, the Almirian Crusader set makes you look like you're determined and maybe a bit angry. I think its ideal.
5. Harlequin Doll Costume
Maybe this is bad taste on my part but I think this looks good. Its a very modern costume with a big too much going on, but its a harlequin costume after all.
Honorable mentions:
Cherub Set (Dev only)
Stranger Costume
Megadolon Costume
Nefarious Costume
Rose Regalia Costume

Compound 42 is the true hell. It says a lot that many people craft a whole 5* armor set and shield (Dragon Scale) exclusively for Compound 42 because running Chaos is suicide.

Real grind hours question.
As a FTP, at what point does it become more worth it to save up crowns to buy something right off the supply depot versus crafting it up? Between the time needed to get alchemy orbs, put heat in to items, and other concerns would it be worth it to simply.. buy off the depot after converting your crowns to energy? Take the Chaos Cloak set. Available in the Hall of Heroes, but on the supply depot that's just short of 400k for head and chest.

weapons from the supply depot is a pure, unfiltered scam. Its only worth it if youre a very rich player and are feeling incredibly lazy, at which point youre probably better off buying such a weapon with a nice UV from another player anyway.
With that said, buying orbs on SD (bar eternals) is generally better than farming them

I have 5 extras for voting. And I have like 3 more screenshots from 2 different games left. Probably won't be able to get them in now, but I have enough to rig shit.
I'm just saying this now because others are trying the same thing too.

I'm not even sure what's wrong with nonbrandish swords honestly. I'm such a metaslave that my swords are a brandish, the snarbolax rapier, and the sealed sword. Might have to try one out to see what's wrong.
>>
>>2264538
I just don't think it's possible to make them good. Later enemies just damage you by moving at you and you're better off using those weapon slots for a brandish, lingering effect bombs, or the piercing-charge-attack guns.
>>
>>2264570
This is my unfortunate observation as well. A lot of swords have problem getting in position to hit anything at all, and then there's the huge swarms later levels love. They lack the clearing power or even a point in having individual killing power 1v1. Which they don't do as well either.
There's a reason brandish meta became a thing. It's enemy design itself.

>> Because they destroyed it with constant war
theres practically zero elaboration of the morai wars to see whether it was really their fault. But its somewhat implied that Morai are the ones that declared war
If you look at the tale of Almire and Vanaduke, its definitely a mirror of the tale of the Knights:
As per the owlite tome text in that one rank mission
>...This world has seen few greater tragedies than the fall of the great Kingdom of Almire. Once a vibrant, beautiful realm of lush forests and sweeping plains...
>...neighboring kingdoms declared war...
>...seeking the power needed to turn the tide, Lord Vanaduke of Almire fled into the mountains...
>...returning as something unnatural......endless inferno......Almire destroyed......they can never leave, they can never escape the flames...
Lost soul of Almire in 9-2
>Lord Vanaduke brought the fire from the mountains to our kingdom. Everything burned. His enemies. Even his family. My family was lost too. I fled the battle as soon as I saw the wave of flames in the distance. I was able to reach my home just in time to see it burn. I don't even remember how it ended. I have no memory of my passing.
As in, the Morai declared war on Isorans, isorans were being fucked up, they formed the spiral order which left in search of a power source, arrived at cradle, and presumably got fucked over by the swarm within the Core.
This part about consuming their memories can also be related to what The Sleeper told you about the swarm via the Echo Stones (the things you get at the end of Shadow Lairs)
>IT DEVOURED THE KNOWLEDGE OF TIME... MEMORIES OF THE DEAD... THE HEARTS OF KINGS AND THE SOULS OF THEIR PEOPLE... GOOD AND EVIL... IT CONSUMED.

>Are we the baddies?
I mean, the Gremlins clearly turned their back to their fucking job of tending to the Core, the Swarm is spilling out and if nothing is down, will consume the whole planet, and possibly many more.
>>
>>2268808
well, its a mysterious power source without that much elaboration, containing the sleeper and the swarm and whatever tf else
The sleeper says it (and cradle) was created to protect it but that part of the plot is frankly really lazy and unfinished
>>2269121
the swarm was certainly spilling out and fucking shit up before we got here
its honestly not known if the gremlins even do any direct maintenance to it anyway
theres even a common theory that the real intended plot behind tinkinzar (the gremlin king/leader who supposedly came up with the whole clockworks and has never been seen by any other than the crimson order) isnt even real and that shit was made up by the crimson order. specially given theres pretty much zero concept art of him

they already did some small changes once they got back into the game a few months ago, like fixing the DA charge. Making Troikas not the most worthless weapon ever is not out of the question, specially considering they could just give it a damage increase and nothinge lse

They buffed Catalyzer damage recently, not sure if it makes them good but there's absolutely nothing stopping them from buffing Troika damage overnight.
If it were up to me though I'd change the stun infliction - minor chance on the first swing, moderate chance on the second swing, and good chance on the charge. Maybe a small damage top-up on top of that, but mostly just make it able to inflict stun from normal attacks since the two swing combo is a lot of commitment even if the second swing creates room with the knockback it has.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>2274312
The Acheron is good enough :tm:
Like what more do you need?
That said, consider the Winter Grave
Yes, it's a gun, but it has a stupidly good charge attack that's both satisfying to use and does a truckload of damage (and freezes enemies so you have a bit of crowd control)
Also you technically have the Obsidian Edge, so three (even if it's just an Acheron that deals poison)
>>
>>
>>2274377
Yeah you have to do the Apoc event for it but they rerun that consistently enough, you can just sit on a heat 10 Silent Nightblade until it reruns honestly since you need Acheron at like Heat 7-8 to get the same damage.
>>
>>
I think we're about due for a Tortodrone rerun
I kinda wish they'd add a Tortodrone bomb and maybe a Tortodrone sword.
Bomb would probably be placing down a large tortoshell that explodes and sends out heavy fragments that hit multiple times and do huge knockback, maybe a stun too. Tradeoff would maybe be a longish detonation timer as the shell takes time to build enough pressure to explode.
For sword I'd probably make a troika-like hammer out of a tortodrone shell. Maybe the charge impact sends out a bunch of crystals like how the tortodrone guns work.
Of course I'd also buff the tortodrone guns heavily - give them a tight, consistent charge pattern that's an asterisk in shape and remove the damage immunity so it does a ton of damage to anything stuck in it - maybe nerf the per tick a bit to make up for it being able to do far more damage over time.

acheron is a contender for strongest all-purpose weapon in the game, its damage is higher than other brandishes. In fact its the same as the Gran Faust
And yes, the winter grave is EXTREMELY good. I think its better than Iron Slug just because of specialized damage. also grim repeater is strong too
>>2275197
nigga just do 100% on the final rolls unless you have lots of radiants to spare
Also dont even bother farming radiants normally if you have the option to cheat d28 arenas. Get 3 friends, get 3-4 alt accounts each, and dupe arenas in d28.

>>
>>
>>2278343
DaN only averages like 21 radiants per run iirc
I dont think its worth farming now that energy is cheap? i might be wrong/havent done the math but i think you get more by doing FSC very fast and turning the crowns into energy into radiants. Farming radiants like that is depressing though, once again: seconding the post telling people to dupe arenas, its not only a fuckton of radiants but its actually faster crown gain than FSC if the team is really good and fast at clearing

Doesn't the game have an inherent design flaw?
I don't think there is any 'fixing' most stuff. Once you get in to the final tiers, you need mass clear power. Mandatory. There's no getting good against a hyper stacked set of 20 enemies in the same tile, and you can only run around an arena with 80% spike space and 20% usable area so long till the different pace of mixed enemy types start cornering you.
Meaning any weapon that cannot service this need is inherently unwanted. Try as hard as you want, you just fall behind the game's design.

Actually.
As a bomber, what is my option for a backup sword? I know brandish spam is meta, but I'm spamming bombs. I'm only having the one sword on me. Everything else is bombs. All bombs, all the time. Sword for practical applications like not charging 10 years to finish off one guy or making some space for myself. The usual.
I imagine I want a normal damage sword since I can't hot swap to a second or third sword in my inventory like the quickswapping chads. But which one? My take is the leviathan is technically already the best normal sword.
>>
>>2281426
You don't actually want normal damage for the most part.
My pick would maybe be the Barbarous Thorn Blade - charge isn't all that worth using, you mostly use the first attack and shield cancel. Comes out really quick and is alright for making some space, and does pierce although I guess the DBB is one of the more meta bombs.
Fang of Vog is a surprisingly usable elemental sword that you can get for free if you don't want to invest a lot in a sword although the swing speed is a bit slow, Warmaster is another good option if you've done the DLC (which rewards a shadow bomb that was so good it had to be HEAVILY nerfed but is still decent enough)
If you want to cover shadow options Acheron is really the only shadow sword worth considering.
Pure utility wise... maybe the Turbillion? Not sure it does a lot of damage but it's normal damage and it has a projectile on the swing to make it a sort of pseudo-gun for breaking things/hitting switches.
Finally you can honestly use Brandishes without using charge attacks, it's just that the charges are so broken why wouldn't you?
>>
>>
>>
>>2281426
brandish is unironically the best all purpose swinging and finishing sword. Its not just the charge attack that is overpowered, the actual basic attacks are the most reliable
Go for Acheron, it does passable damage against things that resist shadow and outstanding damage against everything else, in practical purposes its better than normal swords outside of maybe zombies. Split damage is very strong
If you still want a normal sword, do not go for leviathan, that thing sucks. Go for a Turbillion at least, which still isnt very great but its probably the best normal damage sword. Or maybe a Dread Venom Striker?

How is your grind going?
Looking forward to having 2 million crowns to buy something on auction one day, are we?

>Looking forward to having 2 million crowns to buy something on auction one day, are we?
i like to farm black kats with 4 accounts at the same time. The three alts dont need to be geared up, but its way faster if they have good gear, because then you dont need to invite your main to kill them during the duplicating trick.
Like this you can kill 7 kats every time one spawns, your chances for a book get way better. Every book is like 1.2-2 million crowns?i dont remember exactly how much they are worth these days, but if luck isnt on your side, you can do a nolife session for two weeks and get pretty close to buying some super expensive items like a mixmaster
>>
>>2285220
> you can do a nolife session for two weeks and get pretty close to buying some super expensive items like a mixmaster
I am the living embodiment of the fact rich people are rich cause they never spend their own money. You can do this. You can become Crown King. You'll just spend it all though. Cause even a normal 5 star item functionally costs you 75k crowns if you make it yourself.
At this point, if I had never spent a cent, I could have probably bought something incredibly stupid.
>>
>>2285736
>Cause even a normal 5 star item functionally costs you 75k crowns if you make it yourself.
Recipe costs:
>1,000 crowns
>4,000 crowns
>10,000 crowns
>25,000 crowns
40,000 crowns for recipes
-----------------------
Orb costs:
>3 simple - 50 energy
>3 advanced - 200 energy
>3 elite - 400 energy
>3 eternal - 800 energy
65,250 crowns for 1,450 energy for orb reqs in alchemy
-------------------------
Alchemy costs:
>1,000 crowns
>4,000 crowns
>10,000 crowns
>25,000 crowns
40,000 crowns for crown reqs in alchemy
It's more like 145k at the minimum to get a 5 star weapon.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>2286586
That fits more with my experience of doing this. Insane how much of the cost can be just orbs if you buy them on depot. At least eternals are actually surprisingly easy to get. It's the others you'll end up having to cough up for.
>>
>>2286573
>>2286588
I think it's viable to grind Eternal orbs, I mean I have like 15 stockpiled from doing FSC for crowns and I doubt I'll ever craft enough 5*s that I outstrip my supply.
The brutal one is the 400 energy for Elites, elite orbs are absolute ass to farm despite being expensive enough it'd be "worth it"
Simple orbs aren't worth farming, better to buy at only 50 energy, Advanced orbs might be mildly worth farming but it's probably quicker/more reliable to just run FSC and buy the energy for them too.
I don't know how much they make off people buying energy for gear progression but I wish they'd up the drop rate for Elite Orbs and Radiant Fire Crystals to make gearing more pleasant.

do NOT waste your crowns/energy on those clovers, for some reason they're horribly overpriced. historically these have been always getting sold on AH for a few thousand crowns on average, some records of winning bids going as low as a few hundreds and as high as 15k crowns.
check AH or ask some players if you can snatch or buy one from them at an appropiate price, but do the ones in depot are a fucking scam.

I hate being a swordsman in this game with every part of my soul.
I don't feel like I do enough damage. Unless I'm brandish charging. There's not any opportunity to deal any damage with normal hits that doesn't result in you taking half your health in damage because you are 10ms too behind for what is on screen to matter. Unless you are brandish charging. A lot of the swords put you in MORE danger or come with stupid garbage like insane knockback that makes the situation worse. Unless you are brandish charging.
And at that point why am I not just a gunner?
I hate this game so much.
>>
>>2308009
Just take the gunner pill bro, I totally recommend getting a Magnus-type gun especially
>can pierce enemies multiple times to do damage
>various element types
>nice charge time that can be faster with armor sets
The other guns are good too but magnus is fun

Unfortunately, yes, gunning is what this is going to come down to. Swords are only usable for their charge attacks, and that reduces you to one sword on it's own. Bombs are.. questionably useful at times. Guns always work, at least.

Well then, you're in luck. The Dark Serpent gate has the Twins boss and they're a lot easier to solo than Royal Slime, even if it takes longer. Also, if Brinks' shop uses the Twins' tokens for the Quicksilver Helm and Mail which are 3-star, so if you're really unlucky with the orbs at least you can farm those.

Vindictus could maybe fit that description, but it's been over a decade since I played that game so I don't know if that's true anymore. I once witnessed a Karok suplex a raid boss dragon while it was swooping down mid flight. The archer character Kai was kind of low engagement and the twin sword character could spin2win with invincibility but other than that I felt like the game's core combat felt pretty committal. But it's been so long that they're now even planning to release a singleplayer remaster type thing, no idea how the game has evolved over time and no idea what the single player game will be like.

Greavers in late game;
>warp to you, it's so fast it might as well be a teleport
>have a quick attack windup
>stick to you during the attack so you can't simply move backwards out of their attack
>attack fires projectiles in case you've tried to dodge it
>>
>>
>>
>>2342618
Greavers fly right in your face and immediately become a problem you need to deal with. Every other enemy can be dealt with at your own pace. Greavers do not give you time to get to a better position or charge your attack. They can easily catch you off guard while you're fighting other enemies.
Groups of Greavers are rare but suck to fight when they all fly at you from different angles.
>>
>>
>>
>>2344700
The worst part about them is that because of the autolock when they charge you most of the time they end up pposite of the direction where they charged from.
That makes them really difficult to counter with swords.

Orb price on the AH is basically the same as the depot CE price most of the time. It almost always makes sense to buy orbs for CE from the depot vs the auction house, whether that's CE from Crowns or CE from real cash.
