I've constantly failed at getting ePlus setup on my phone (ironically, I got it working *AFTER* the live, so at least next time I can VIP Lottery and all that other good stuff) so the gaijin-friendly pass thing Donuts has been doing lately was a Godsend for me, my wife and some of her online friends.
Venue was shit. Everyone knew it and the cast also seem like they fucking hated it since they made fun of it during the free talk (IDK if it showed up on the stream, but there were two massive-ass pillars in the hall that blocked the view of the stage from basically anywhere you'd be sitting unless you were in the VIP area). The girls did a fucking great job working around it with the choreography though. They always made sure to distribute their placement on-stage so that they spent equal-enough amounts of time on the far-left, far-right and center so everyone could get a good look. The tickets were also on the expensive side, to the point where it probably made the live flop in terms of people showing up in-person (IIRC the venue was supposed to fit like 700-ish. We got about 520 for the day show and a little less than that for the night show, but my group went in before everyone was called so my count might be off. I was in A-Area at the night show though, and there was a comfortable amount of room towards the back so definitely not at-capacity. (!/2. Part 2 is the positives dw)

Other than those gripes, the live itself was fucking legendary. The setlist felt like a goddamn rock opera picking up from where ARK left off (May'n said something to that effect during the free talk at the night show). Even the Abyss songs I normally can't stand like raindrops and junkbox sounded good live because of how much enthusiasm the girls put into it. They somehow crammed Abyssmare's entire discography (except for the old covers they probably couldn't perform + STORY, which was deliberately kept out) + the 5 new songs into a single show with the only real breaks being occasional in-character talk bits + the subtle break of running through the Tano-C instrumental + the 4 solo songs to rest everyone in shifts before the last spurt. The way it was all framed you didn't even feel like it was a break because of how naturally each song progressed into the next.
I'm still mixed on the solo songs but the way that they blend together to make not 4 a lie was very creative and made *that* song + its message hit like a sack of fucking bricks. Very emotional.
I don't know how well it picked up on the stream, but the crowd, though it was on the smaller side, was absolutely feral. I live in bumblefuck nowhere USA where the local cons only have the most bland mainstream stuff so being with other people who will scream the crowd chants for shit like I am the best and jump around to the relevant bits of GITA and Axis the World was a mind-blowing experience.

I finally had the time to watch the archives and completely agree with you, it was a great live overall.
The pacing and structure of the live really enhanced it, allowing it to have a pretty strong narrative with minimal in-character MCs. It gives an unique identity to Abyssmare lives in the franchise.
I was also not the biggest fan of Junkbox upon first hearing it but the live version is much better.
One of the thing I don't really enjoy with most D4 live is how backing vocals can be overbearing, I'm very happy that this isn't the case for Abyssmare lives.

The new costumes, but also the makeup looked good, maybe it not being a direct attempt to adapt 2D art make them feel more authentic.

The stream by itself was technically fine even if bitrate could be a little bit higher, but show with lights like that will always look a bit ass. Audio was fine and it was nice to be able to hear the cheer of the audience, which given the size was pretty loud.
It really feel more genuine than just polite claps between songs.
It's a bit of a shame that you can't force stream quality on Mixch though but at least they don't upright chare you a gaijin fee.

I really hope we will get more Abyssmare concert, after all it is important that they're called that, in the future.

The road to the Abyssmare 2nd concert is pretty good too. They fucking performed live for the weekend live stream, did regular short guerrilla streams and the behind the scene videos on rehearsal and recording are very interesting.

I give may'n the credit for all the production value stuff. From her blog/tiwtter, she apparently loves abyssmare to death which is lucky for us, since her own solo stuff does like 15X better numbers-wise and forced her own personal staff to take over the production (stage, lighting, sound design, etc.). She even apologized to them all for taking time out of her tour schedule to make everyone work on this.
It really showed though. I hope the project can live long enough that I can see another one some day or May'n convinces someone to buy the rights after EoS. She seems insane enough to at least try it.

Forgot to mention it in my last post, so I wanted to add that I also really enjoy the element of the abyssmare shows that give them a running plot (even the second UniMare show and their D4FES set had this to a lesser extent). My wife and I jokingly
call them "DJ Operas" but it really is a novel concept.
It was almost a shame that ALIVE wasn't as ambitious in that department as ARK was but there's not as much in-game plot to work with this time. At most they could have brought in Karin or Aimi to be Lumina/Kyoko (D4 lives have had "special guests" before) but the logistics of that would have probably been too much and I can see them not wanting to take the focus off of Abyssmare proper.
Either way, I think the live told a really good story about moving on from the past and learning to work with others. I felt like there were layers of meta-commentary about the current state of the franchise as well but that might be reading too much into it.

That checks out. The 2024-2025 year was spent under more-or-less nonstop doomposting when Bushi threw out death flag after death flag for the entire project before finally pulling out. Donuts' early handling of things (budokan debacle, losing Sae, losing 2/4 OG Eggs) didn't do much to inspire people either.
2025-2026 has issues (no actual main plot, cutdown on events + lives, AISlop, no-story slop, beginning of hetslop pushing) but there's also been a renewed sense that the franchise is sticking around + a gradual restoration of things that were lost towards the end of the Bushi days.
IMO all we really need to have another shot at being relevant (well, as relevant as DJs can be, anyway) is some kind of big gamble like an anime or manga adaptation, but IDK if Donuts has the balls or the money to try it.
