The kicker is that SV's issues wasn't even design, it was absolutly awful in game character models with weird faces and washed out colours. Half the cast actually got a fanbase once official art came out, but on releas it was dire.

GF originally did not have any plans to create BDSP but decided at the last minute to change their mind due to fan demand and expectations. However GF was already busy with other projects so they hired ILCA to make it, but due to a tight development schedule they decided that it was for the best to have the game be a copy of the original ds game.
