>B-but ZA just came out, we already had what we had been waiting for delivered!
Before I start the thread let me say that I don't consider ZA to be a worthy compilation of all the ideas that were originally planned for Z, on top of being your average pokemon game with barely any effort put into it.
I think it's fairly well known by now that at some point Gamefreak was working on Z's development, around the time the gen 3 remakes were being made, but ultimately scrapped leaving only a few buggy drafts to show us what they worked on. This was mostly due to them wanting to overlap the series's 20th anniversary with the release of a new gen, leading to Z being eliminated from the equation and the rushed initial versions of gen 7 being made.
What really pisses me off about this is that X and Y were clearly developed with a third version in mind, feeling pretty barren and being infamous for not having an actual postgame, in which they just throw the third legendary in a random cave with no explanation whatsoever. They obviously planned to expand the region while also giving Zygarde a lore, like they did with the past 3 gens. The reason why Rayquaza and Giratina are so beloved is that they were properly handled in their versions, had they not come out, they would just be considered shoved legendaries with no purpose that looked cool, in fact that's pretty much what they were in R/S and D/P.
Z also had ton of potential, and that's not my own baseless conjecture, the anime and gen 7 showed us just how much Kalos and Zygarde had to offer, immagine having played through a gen 6 game with 10% and 100% forms and a similar storyline as XYZ (which btw it still annoys me how they featured the Z in the anime's name while not actually releasing the game).

The new megas in ORAS, the cells and core system in SM/USUM, Serena's updated design (and probably Calem's too) and even bonding pokemon (cue Ash-Greninja) were all likely elements planned to be featured in Z.
Whenever I think of what Pokemon Z could've been had it come out, I'm hit with this sad realization that there's simply never gonna be a definitive edition of gen 6 that you revisit from time to time. Emerald was so good that it's the reason why it's always pleasant to replay gen 3 every few years, same for Platinum that also fixed the awful pacing of D/P.
Kalos will forever be known as the gen that neither had its issues fixed nor was expanded in a meaningful way, but hey, at least they made a shitty moneygrab that pretends to be the game everyone wanted.

Third version games were fucking stupid and I'm glad they're dead. It was proto-DLC but twice as expensive. Killing this retarded tradition was worth sacrificing Gen 6.

3rd versions are still playable, even when the eShop goes down. Meanwhile DLC requires the base game, which is known to have problems that 3rd versions tend to fix. Once the Switch eShops go down, the DLCs can't be purchased, meaning SwSh, SV, and ZA will forever be unfinished if you don't pay up some more dough beforehand.
>>
>>58993485
>Yes daddy Game Freak here's an extra 100 gazillion dollars for the exact same game you sold me last year but with an extra legendary subplot. This is better than just selling me the subplot directly because in 20 years I won't be able to figure out how to install a Switch emulator.

Yeah too bad that the DLC in Sw/Sh and so on sucks major dick. Third versions would fix everything wrong with the game on top of expanding it, gen 8's DLC didn't stop it from staying shitty. In 10 years the new gens will be forgotten, meanwhile over 20 years later we still have people revisiting the definitive editions of old gens.
Third versions also separated smart people from the retarded cattle. You knew it was coming, so you could either just buy the game one year later and get an experience many times better or just buy the same game twice like you say. Unfortunately you niggas had to whine about it so much and now everyone has to pay for the additional content.

Yes.
>Third versions would fix everything wrong with the game on top of expanding it
And you know this how?
>gen 8's DLC didn't stop it from staying shitty.
And Pokémon Chainmail or whatever would fix this how?

> Third versions also separated smart people from the retarded cattle. You knew it was coming,
Is that why you’re seething about no Z version? You “”””knew”””” it was coming only to get fucked while normal people were having fun playing XY? KEK
>>
>>58993528
>>58993529
>And you know this how?
Perhaps by having an overall better experience with the third version compared to the previous two? General QoLs are just a part of it, but a big one in what makes the final game feel better.
Refining the story also works well if you do it from 0, simply adding an extra island as DLC could never do that. Again, third versions would be cemented as classics due to their design philosophy being about being a complete package, gens with DLC are simply a product of their time and already will have nothing going for them once the newest gen drops.
>>58993534
>Buying the same game twice is STUPID anon
>Lol! NORMAL people were just playing the first games in a series where it's known to eventually release a better version a few months later!
Make up your mind, and please don't flex your stupidity by telling me how you're too much of a low IQ ape to have noticed a pattern that had been repeated 5 consecutive times. The reason Atlus stopped making Persona definitive editions was that the smart people were outnumbering the cattle, and thus they were no longer earning from this strategy, which while would hurt the average customer, it would benefit who could wait and whoever decided to get into the game a few years after its release.

>Platinum’s story still sucks
>BW2’s story is worse than BW’s
>USUM’s story is worse than SM’s

Just admit you’re mad because you want to get fucked in the ass by Game Freak. It’s alright, anon.

>They can't and it didn't, keep enjoying your incorrectly textured windows
Just admit that you are one of those guys fine with paying 80 bucks for a game and 25 for each separate DLC that comes out.
One thing I'll give you is that double definitive editions suck because it removes one of the best things about the third editions, which was being able to catch all boxart legendaries in one game.
>>58993614
What kind of question is this? Correct me if I'm wrong anon, but didn't every gen prior to gen 6 have an overall better and more refined version come out shortly after the first games? Going on ever since the gameboy era?
>>
>>
>>
I swear we can't have good things in this community.
Version that allows you to get the most enjoyment out of a generation? Nope, can't do that! That's just GF cucking you! (Same people that pre-ordered FRLG)
Emulator that allows you to experience said versions? Nope, can't go stealing from poor indie daddy Nintendo!
I fucking hate you all and I'm glad that they keep baking buggy mediocre games that you niggas all eat up. I stopped playing the franchise after USUM, and it's been amusing to see it grow worse and worse while GF gets richer and richer. Keep feeding them and giving in into their predatory business practices, show them that you're all mindless slaves.

You can't actually be this confidently wrong. This has to be a troll.

Wait, are you being serious and not trolling? Anon, this is like debating 2 + 2. Objective facts aren't an opinion. Please illuminate me, what are Yellow, Crystal, Emerald, Platinum and BW2? And while you're on to it, did they or did they not come 1/2 years after their respective first game?
I should be the one saying that you can't be this confidently wrong. What is it gonna be? Are you gonna go about how they aren't actually better versions in literally every regard?

Yellow has improved sprites, actually has colors, allows you to get all the three starters and has a mix of elements from both Red and Blue while also having other improvements. I can see why you would see it as a spin off, but it still has all the characteristics of a definitive edition.
Why would I be joking about BW2? Yeah, they are sequels on paper, yet improve pretty much everything about Unova, while also having a good postgame unlike BW. You can't deny that gameplay wise they are an improvement, with the story being just as good. At times it feels like people on this board have some weird hate boner for BW2.
>>58994194
Oh no! Platinum doesn't have a pokemon I literally had to google due to how irrelevant it is! Guess now I'm gonna be better off playing Diamond or Pearl where everything is slow as fuck and Cyrus is introduced as some random guy at the end of the game with no foreshadowing whatsoever.

>See Pokemon Z thread
>"Oh this is gonna be full of cool ideas and possible outcomes the game could've had"

Not gonna comment any further about how you idiotic you all sound classifying definitive editions both marketed and considered as such as the community as actively worse, but thanks for leaving me disappointed after I thought that we were finally having a decent Z thread.

Ok so you're just a jeet who gets brain damage after reading more than a few lines. My point still stands, better gameplay, postgame, story and mechanics. Were I to buy only one of the two, I'd buy the second.

Pros to 3rd Versions:
>Guaranteed fixes to common complaints about the base game and regions aka limited dex, weak type distribution, improvements to graphics, artstyle and game pacing, as well as the path through the region that make the entire journey better
Cons to 3rd Versions:
>Might not make the post game meatier.
>Can also end up cutting mons from the regional dex for some reason (no zangoose or lunatone in emerald for some reason)
Pros to DLC
>Guaranteed to make the post game well worth it, add epilogues to storylines and add mons to the dex.
Cons to DLC
>Does nothing for the 1-8 badge journey, and arguably hurts replayability by backloading "the good stuff" behind a mediocre campaign.

If we had got Pokemon Z instead it literally would’ve been just like Emerald or Platinum, just a couple overall changes and a few new features. Given GF’s track record during the 3DS era, you have to be willingly ignorant to believe it would’ve been more than that.

I wish we got pokemon Z.
XY left so much on the table, I feel like we could have had a genuinely peak Pokemon game if they gave it a 2nd pass.
>more customization items
>better difficulty curve/harder gyms/more fleshed out story and characters
>Kalos as a region gets some touching up
>perhaps some performance improvements like DP/Pt
>an actual postgame

Why are you trying to imply that being like 2 of the consensus best pokemon games would be bad?
>>
>>
>>
>>58996106
Eh, not really. The last gym leader being ice type really cucks it hard, the free mega lucario doesn't help things and then Diantha's team is a joke cuz they cared more about the theme than making a cohesive unit, so they get torn apart really easily.
>>58996131
I haven't played XY since 2018, wasn't the postgame just the Looker quests and the battle mansion?

what are you fucking stupid?
fucking dumbass?
XY had xp share and all the trainers outside of gyms were shitters with 3 pokemon max. even with xp share turned off you could still raise a good team easily with the restaurant battles.
your only ecxuse for posting that is if you were a dumb kid when you played it or you're ragebaiting.
critical path, no xp share is what I did when I played Y on launch and it was a breeze.
stupid fuck.

People do, in fact, complain about Atlus doing it, and eventually they started to withhold their money until the definitive version came out, something Pokesloppers don't have the self-control or low time preference to do.
>>
>>58995965
>Why are you trying to imply that being like 2 of the consensus best pokemon games would be bad?
Because Emerald and Platinum made small changes to what were already decent games while Z would have made small changes to a terrible game.
>>
>>
>>58993464
There's literally documentation of Game Freak employees saying they cut the post-game from XY in order to save it for an "upper version", the internal name they use for third versions, in private files meant only for the development team. I don't know how you could possibly read it in any other way.

I mean if you like braindead campaigns and braindead post-game content designed for campaignfags who just mash A with lots of framedrops and ugly overworld art styles on top of mediocre map design sure. That puts it above DP and the Japanese love that shit so whatever.

The postgame content is pretty challenging. You’ll lose if you just mash A.

There aren’t a lot of frame drops and the art style is beautiful though.

What’s mediocre about the map design? It’s pretty good.

Honestly, it makes no sense for them to complain about it, especially if they can deduce how to "counter" it. Persona 6 will probably not get a definitive edition and will just feature a shitty 8 hour extra arc priced 30 dollars. The 3rd semester in P5R worked so well because it was foreshadowed from the very first in-game months.
People assume that if Atlus didn't make definitive editions then Golden and Royal would've just released as the base games, when in reality it's more likely that we would've gotten the vanilla versions with MAYBE some improvements. Companies primarily care about making money, so why should they waste extra budget on "extra content" if they can't earn extra money from it?
At least definitive editions were being sold as a full game, so they had to be presentable, DLC doesn't have that requirement.
Not to mention that all things considered you were getting more of your money's worth at the time.
Same logic for fighting games, Street Fighter 4 costed $60 at launch, SSF4 was $40 and both AE and Ultra were also sold as $15 upgrades. Fully upgrading would've costed $70, and since they added 19 total characters you would be paying an average of $3.68 per character. Now check out SF6 where every character is sold separately at 7 bucks and will likely add much more than 19 characters.
>People still claim DLC is better for the consumer
Lol. Lmao.
>>
>>
>>
>>58998407
>Honestly, it makes no sense for them to complain about it
Sure it does. The problem with Atlus is that it's not enough for the games to finally come out after years in development hell, you then have to wait even longer for them to actually be finished and sold for full price again. It was one thing when the definitive versions were made for different consoles than the original or before DLC was the norm, but it's a scam now and people have gotten sick ot it. The last straw for me was when they didn't release P5R as DLC on PS4 and let you transfer your social stats over to your new playthrough. Their games aren't even that amazing for people to put up with this every single time.
