Oleaje is not waving as a verb, it's more like waves. As viento is a singular word, oleaje is a singular word to say waves. So yeah, oleaje is a pretty ugly word, but it makes sense.

Because oleaje is rarely used and if you were a native you'd know that oleaje alludes more so to the effect rather than a simple wave you would see in a beach, it sounds forced and dumb at first glance, akin to a scientific term. Anyone in mexico would translate wave to ola, would you expect an english speaker who just learned the word to know better than people who use it in their language. If anything it's the spanish that are trying very hard to be different since mexico has twice the population of spain and no one in latin america cares about their retarded translations. As an italian I can reply to you that "Onde" would have been cacophonous, and already knowing the english names from the leaks many of us were scared of it being named "Onde" and we took a sigh of relief when we saw that they used the singular for the names.
Thought still can't say that I'm talking for everyone, just the comunity I know.

Because Spaniards have different word preferences. This is far from the first time I've seen this happen so I'm guessing "Oleaje" just sounds better or less weird to Spanish people, but as a Hispanic American, "Ola" sounds more natural to me than "Oleaje" which is sort of a rare word in real life (at least where I live).

As for the logo balance autism: I think it should've been "Olas" to make the Waves logo a bit wider. I don't care that the two names wouldn't be in the plural.
