I didn't care for gen 4's overall, but that was the only one I played. Went with the fire monkey, I thought its first form was the best. Torterra is cool but Infernape and Empoleon are meh. With gen 7 Decidueye is the only one I kinda like. And with gen 10, I like the first forms so far, but they also feel a bit bland and like they've been done before. Can't judge it properly until all forms are seen.

Litten and Pombon are equally cute but I choose gen 7 because I like Incineroar too. DP came out when I was in elementary school and I liked Piplup back then but looking back they don't actually look that good.

I think starters got better and better up until gen 4 and then from gen 5 onwards it was all downhill from there.
Though looking back gen 5 was better than gens 6 and up because it was gen 6 that started the trend of extremely humanoid looking starters.
Emboar is the closest thing to a humanoid starter pre-gen 6 and even then it doesn't look all that humanoid besides being a fat bipedal pig.
