Quick FAQ
>Do I need my own Pokémon to play?
No, the game features a recruitment system, but transferring from Home is recommended to save time and resources.
>What makes the game so much more accessible than before?
All aspects of a Pokémon are customizable with VP, a currency earned simply by playing the game. IVs are also removed.
>Is there single player content?
No.
>Do I need a Nintendo Online subscription?
No.
>What's the starter pack?
US$6.99 one time purchase for 50 training tickets (fully train for free), 30 quick coupons, 50 extra box space and the LGPE trainer music.
>Is anything locked behind a paywall?
So far everything gameplay relevant is also purchasable with VP. Mega Kalos starters and E-Floette require ZA transfer.

Ultra Ball 1 is actually the 5th circle of hell.
Just lost a game by missing 3 rock slides in a row while their rock slides hit and flinched me.
Random fucking mons carrying protect, guessing whether the sinistcha will rage powder, protect, whether the whimsicott will taunt, tailwind, or moonblast. Fuck me.

you'll still have 30 free slots to use though
even if you didn't the pokemon aren't transferred from home to champions, they simultaneously take up a permanent slot in home until you remove them from champions
>>
>>

>>59177949
the only pokemon you really need are like
basculegion, sneasler, garchomp, pelipper, charizard (y), rotom-wash, sinistcha, venusaur, milotic, archaludon, whimsicott and incineroar. then you effectively have the backbone for like 3 different archetypes.
i genuinely can't remember last time i even saw a team that didn't have at least 3 or 4 of those fuckers on each team.

poltergeist is consistently higher damage, but you're also subject to the control of intimidate and burns. physical aegislash is higher damage, but has clearer counterplay while special does a tiny bit less damage but is far more consistent for longer periods of time. but then you also have moves that can accidentally trigger competitive/defiant boosts.
>>
>>59178063
Too many items missing to do that in a good way I think. You'd have to use a hp berry/focus sash and pray or have a resist berry and have your 2nd mon hit slurp with that kind of attack, like brutal swing or something.
Seems pretty bad though. Would be less effort just to have a 2nd mon use tailwind

I haven’t seen it discussed since Knock Off was removed from its favorite user, but I suspect moves whose power relies on held items are actually going to be very unreliable in a meta where so many of the available held items are consumable.

Maybe it says something about me that all of my go-to strategies I come up with are slow, laborious, status effect using roundabout ways of winning instead of setting up and going right for the kill winning/losing in like 4 turns max. Maybe you really do get to know someone through pokemon battles. Maybe I need to set up and sweep my opponents in real life...

doubles are such a joke. I thought maybe the claims about it being more skillful had some merit since there was more things to consider on field, but after reaching masterball I know it's all just VGC players coping with the fact that their "official" format is a coinflip simulator where half of the games are determined by pure RNG and dumb luck and the only reason tournaments use it is because 6v6 would take too long for tournament to end in a reasonable timeframe.

when playing perish trap, what are you looking for to tell you when the trap is worth doing? I've been playing my garbage for like 5 games now because its a funny archetype I want to learn and it feels like there are almost never instances in which it wouldn't just be more efficient to kill over 1-2 turns with shadow ball rather than using song
>>
Basculegion has absolutely no fucking business doing the damage it's doing when it's using Swift Swim. Fucking increase the recoil on Wave Crash already, it's not nearly enough for the damage it does when boosted by rain. None of the other recoil moves except for Flare Blitz has that benefit, but flare blitz is generally not put on extremely fast fire types, let alone ones that get double speed in their favored weather. don't even get me started on fucking scarf adaptability basc that still manages to fucking one-shot shit through sun with wave crash

and this is any different from
>wow he swapped into his ghost type on his rapid spin!
>i wonder if the ghost will use rapid spin to remove hazards, or will he set up new hazards!
>wow the opponent swapped into his ghost type on the rapid spin!
>now they are both setting up spikes! it's getting intense here, people!
or you know, the exact same things happening in singles as well. it's not like moves don't have secondary effects in singles. if you understand and can think ahead, you'll often know when a protect is coming and you can use that to set up a weather, or set up something like a calm mind. it's about making reads. sure, sometimes people will just yolo a protect to scout what you're going to do, or try to bait you into attacking into a protect, but you know, that's part of getting experienced in VGC. complaining about protect is generally how you spot a singles player who's trying to get into VGC from a mile away.

Just catch/hatch more of it for candy. Raids and dmax (you probably don’t have access to that just yet) give rare candy which you can convert to any species. Some stuff have unique requirements, likeI think you need to walk with Feebas or something.
>>
>>59178637
Greninja doesn't really do anything that other mons don't do better. If Aaron Zheng is to be believed in one of the most-game interviews, he apparently asked GF about the Protean changes and they supposedly changed because they considered it to be too volatile to constantly change types on a super fast mon, limiting the amount of counter play, especially since Greninja has a pretty wide move-pool.
The person who said it to him could've just been talking out of his ass too, but I genuinely don't think Aaron would just sit and lie. I've met him a few times, genuinely one of the nicest people in the community.

Wait, you can get decent trades on the GTS? How?
I have some Shiny legendaries I don't care about(Event Raikous and such, have multiple to the point of hilarity)
I could lose one for Sinistcha. Can't be fucked to go trough all the hassle to evolve one in SV
>>
>>59178605
I'm not complaining about protect, frankly speaking the format would probably be unplayable without it. I'm complaining about how heavily luck factors into games. Double protect and rockslide flinch are a near exclusively doubles phenomenon. The ghost type rapid spin example is a decision by the player. One you can predict and read. You can't predict a flinch, and yet it's a common doubles tactic to just fish for flinches. Having 2 pokemon out means denying a turn is extremely valuable, and with 2 pokemon you're bound to get a flinch once or twice, so banking on that 30% random chance to win is a viable tactic. A player can do everything correctly and still lose because every rockslide is a chance for you to get fucked over that's entirely out of your control. Those situations are possible in singles sure, but it's far less common, and it definitely isn't something you build a pokemon around(unless we're talking about Jirachi, but that's specifically built so that the flinch 'chance' isn't really a chance anymore).
The nature of the format also just makes everything more prone to big swings. You have less pokemon to work with and a much bigger threat on the field. The 4 moves worth of coverage are now 8 moves. If that Aero flinches you at an inopportune moment it isn't just a setback, it's the entire game lost on the spot. Random chance is just far more prevelant and far more impactful.

>"Unfortunate" doesn't begin to describe my series, this game rewards blind luck and nothing else, I am beyond convinced at this point. After getting completely tooled by scheduling with my opponent changing times on me last minute and refusing to provide confirmation prior to the day of the match as to play times, losing this way somehow felt even worse than I had thought possible. My preparation was superior, my play was superior, and I lost, so I don't see a reason to continue engaging in an activity where what is within my control is overwhelmingly outweighed by what is not.
>>
>>
>>59178706
Put up the shiny legendary, ask for what you want. If you’re having trouble getting anyone to bite, search for what you want and see what the asks are; you’ll almost certainly find at least one person offering any given pokemon for Eternal Floette. Eternal Floette is the fungible token of exchange on GTS right now; trade shiny for an Eternal Floette, then spend Floette to claim any mon you want, because SOMEONE is offering it for Floette.
>>
>>
>>59178769
I’ve traded 4 shinies for E Floettes so far, 3 of which I’ve since turned into Raging Bolt, Walking Wake and Iron Leaves. You’re quite likely to be getting a dupe, but you aren’t keeping them, just using them as currency since the GTS doesn’t allow people to request shininess on trades (but it does display them on offers)

>use my aegislash because figure that the kang isn't gonna be able to do anything
>completely forgot about scrappy
>absolutely eat shit
>>
>>
>>
>>59178784
>only fake out and last resort
>fake out now cannot be selected after turn 1, rather than failing
That strategy dissolves like sugar in coffee if Kang eats a fake out and can’t click fake out himself, no? I’d say assuming it was running Inner Focus instead of Scrappy was not a dumb thing to do.
>>
>>59178791
After a day, take it down and put it back. There are so many new bids for E Floette that after maybe half a day or so you’ve been pushed off the page of “what are people offering for my E Floette” results and nobody can see it. When I was offer-refreshing looking to language swap my E Floette for an English one, I saw 2-3 new offers on each REFRESH, which takes what, 15 seconds? Granted a lot of them get snapped up just as fast but still
>>
>>
>>59178795
as long as you have chosen fake out once, it undoes the lock on last resort. it doesn't need to hit, it just needs to have been picked. last resort checks if you've pressed the button, rather than the action having come out.
and man, i started playing VGC in late sword and shield, i've never seen a Kang in a match before that time. i don't remember what that thing does.

The three most common items right now are Focus Sash, White Herb, and Sitrus Berry. The first time you can't Poltergeist because the Sinistcha already ate its berry is the last time you run physical Aegislash.
>>
>>59178953
They can probably tell depending on method but the closest they'll do is just say you can't use it in online play, which is effectively doing deleting them. Actually deleting the mons hasn't happened.
> t. chud who trained up a wonder traded shiny in S/V only to be told I can't use it online a few years back
>>
>>
>>
>>59178062
My physical Aegislash doesn't even use Poltergeist, it's just Shadow Sneak while holding a Spell Tag. Doesn't do as much damage, sure, but it lets me invest more into health since I've always got a priority move on hand.
>>
>>
>>59178966
did you try using it and the game wouldn't allow you to bring your shiny, or did someone warn you about getting banned/disqualified or something? I have an obvious an extremely obviously genned shiny houndoom i got from a wonder trade in gen 6 or 7, and i thought about trying to use it in champions but wasn't sure if anything would happen.
>>
>>
>>59178985
The platform itself wouldn't let me bring it but I suspect it's because it was genned that generation. I have genned mons from gens 4 - 6 that I can use online no problem today though - Probably crossing generations marks them as valid

She just like walks up to us like she’s joining the conversation of adults. Like she’s an- this is just like an adult woman. Sneasler is her name. She’s standing there. She like crosses her arms. She like taps her foot. She looks me up and down. I’m like OK she’s judging me, like I get it: I’m ugly. I’m not you. I’m never gonna be you.
I thought I was gonna get a helper pokemon. Like, but, this isn’t helping anything this is- actually you’re bullying me. She’s bullying me. Ok? At this point she’s bullying me. And they’re like she’s going to help you, just play the flute for her, so that she can like open her heart to you, right? So I play the flute.
Y’all she fucking laughs at you. She laughed at me. Right? Like she laughs at us. Sneasler laughs at us, that’s not like a thing that pokemon do. Wyrdeer didn’t laugh at me. Ursaluna didn’t fucking laugh at me. This bitch. This B-I-T-C-H laughs at me. I didn’t know pokemon were capable of laughing at people but she laughed in my face.
I have never been more humiliated in my life. Nothing can ever undo the- the like hit my pride took. The humiliation of that moment. You know I knew she was gonna hate it and she did. She did. She hated every minute of it. She laughed at me. She laughed at me like I’m a lowly little worm and it’s like: I know you’re prettier than me. She has more friends than me. She’s more successful than me.
As if I even have any pride left for which to be chipped away at. They tell me to climb into her backpack. They tell me to climb into a basket so that she can carry me up the- up the walls. So now I’m in the backpack of a cheerleader and I paid sixty dollars for this game, I don’t deserve it. I don’t deserve to be humiliated like this.

So many of the overused mons have 4x weaknesses and this buckbreaks almost all of them.

So going by this pattern
>April - Harmony (Z-A)
>May - Paxton (Z-A)
>June - Juliana (SV - Orange uniform)
>July - Florian (SV - Purple uniform)
>August - Akari (PLA?)
>September - Rei (PLA?)
>October - Gloria (SwSh)
>November - Victor (SwSh)
Now I am not sure if it's Gen 7 for December or exclusive like a santa suit or it's gonna be LGPE

I reproportioned it to see how it'd look less lanky. Might be a little too close to regular H-sneasel. Maybe if they mixed elements from weavile to more clearly differentiate the 2 designs.

Is eternal floette transferable to sword/shield or ZA with home?
If so could I make a eternal floette with whatever flags it has to make it seem like it is from ZA in swsh/sv pokehex and then trade it to a legit swsh/sv copy to transfer it to home?

In principle the legitimacy checker should recognize it as an invalid game of origin / last game travelled to and Bad Egg it. Unless you have a boner for it having your OT, better bet is to use your Genning powers to make a Shiny Miraidon and throw it up on GTS for an E Floette, you’ll have one in a couple hours

I ran with with whimsicott, scarfed arch, Scizor, incin, conk and Sylveon and had decent success. Quite a few people sleep on his bulk, or still think electric/grass moves kill him. Floette murders him though

E.T.bros...
I am proud of my garchomp soloing 3 mons because it's a trickroom team and they never trick roomed under my pressure. I did forget that phantom force goes through protect. Whoops.
>>
>>
>>

>>
>>
>>59180805
hell no I got giga shit on copying trickroom teams and putting him because no one's made a set for him. had to copy older comps. but it doesn't work there's no life orb... I have a sitrus berry on him idk what to put on his ass.
but it's trickroom sheer force 252hp/252atk/4spd
protect/rock slide/iron head/earthquake
don't take my shit it's not useful. sheer force is good but just not quite good enough without the tiny extra damage from life orb.
>>
>>
>>
>>59180801
Huh. I also need a Kingambit but have just been using Prim as a replacement (don't ask how it's a replacement it's not. prob Milotic should take the place for defiant/competitive).
Using https://pokepast.es/821f36449b21ffb2, a basic Froslass team but ultra ball lets me get away with being bad and not optimal. It's a fun team.

Highly recommend a ghost/steel type for Sneasler. I mean the only one is technically Aegislash because unless the Sneasler is running some unorthodox set - you KO everything around the Sneasler and keep your Aegislash alive - they literally can't touch it. SOME people have made adjustments to this and carry Shadow Claw, but that means it either can't protect, or it can't fake out which is a compromise most people aren't willing to do.
Basculegion, I have no fucking clue how to consistently deal with. All the decent grass types that can deal with it, die to everything else in the meta right now. Arboliva is typically the hard counter to Basc, but that's not in the game because they want to hard avoid any auto-terrain setters.

>>
I just started and I'm climbing up Great Ball right now. Haven't been set in a Trick Room situation yet I think because people see my Aggron and mystery gift Machamp and think I'm gonna get buffed when in reality I have no idea what I'm doing. Like I clearly see like Farigaraf etc but they're never used
>>
how is basculegion so fucking strong in this regulation? I don't remember him being this prevalent before even on weaker regulation A-B in s/v. maybe I'm remembering wrong. or was it just that dondozo took his place during that time?
>>
>>
>>59180864
Ghost/Water is an extremely powerful STAB combo with very few answers. People have also started running Head Smash in order to counter stuff like Heliolisk so you basically have no choice but to sacrifice something for free when it hits the field. It's a fucking retarded piece of shit mon which is why you see it all the time.
>>
>>59180857
Thank you, anon. I was thinking I'm just gonna suicide Wild Charge with the speedier Aqua Tauros to handle Basculegion and resist Sneasler since I have one that's shiny. I just never had a chance to sit down and build a team around it and I'm kinda saddened by the lack of Life Orb but when I get some time I think I'll do that
>>
>>59180864
Basc was put in it's place by Rillaboom because grassy terrain + grassy glide could OHKO it so they had to invest less into sheer offense. But right now, you can just go in with Adaptibility + Scarf, flip turn into something that doesn't care about the move that's incoming, or hard resists it and keep doing that until you can clean up with Last Respects. Especially with how there's not really any good normal types except for Farig, Mega-Lopunny and Maushold and most people tend to focus down Farig/Maus the moment they hit the field so that you can't bring them in late if you're running Basc.
As much as everyone hates Rillaboom now because he's always paired with his red, feline cousin for constant fake out pressure - Rillaboom was the gatekeeper to keeping shit like Basc in check.
>>
>>
>>59180845
Adamant Dual Wingbeat Talonflame holding a Sharp Beak. But that only works 57% of the time, and only if they don't invest any EVs into defense.
Another thing you can do is Fake Out the opposing Whimsicott while setting up Tailwind with your own Whimsicott and then even if they protected you can Taunt them the following turn.
Or, just set up Trick Room.
>>
>>
>>59180884
>>59180846
Yeah I'm already running sinistcha
Probably gonna run trick room on it.
Team is already pretty slow outside of sneasler and gengar so might as well.
>>
>>
>>59180888
Okay, either give us pokemon you want to work with, or more specific concepts. Like, Wolfe's videos are quite good at explaining most things, so if you need more specifics, you need to be more specific as well.
>>
>>
>>59180841
Both Sneasler and Basculegion have very low physical Defense
Sneasler crumples to any super effective physical attack, just be mindful of Focus Sash variants
Basculegion is trickier with Choice Scarf, but Sucker Punch usually fucks it
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>59180913
The problem with Sylveon is that it doesn't really have anything to deal with stuff like Sneasler or Basculegion. It can hit hard, sure, but you can also hit hard with a fairy mega that can just straight one-shot those issues instead.

File: banette-mega.jpg (54.7 KB)

Could Mega Banette work as a turn 1 trick room setter? I've had some good luck climbing to Ultra 3 with my TR team but I'm trying to fine tune it. Right now I'm using Firagiraf and G. Slowking as my setters, with Golurk, Drampa, Torkoal and Abomasnow as the rest.
>>
>>59180942
M-Banette is in that awful speed tier where it's not really that good on a trick room team because a lot of regular mons are slower than it, therefore faster in trick room and not that good outside of trick room because it's below a lot of important speed tiers.

I unironically run the electric rodent, so I think had I ran that instead of Sinistcha into this match up, I would've killed it in one Fake Out + Volt Tackle.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>59180972
Honestly surprised more people aren't running Mega Chimecho. In a metagame where Garchomp, a poison/fighting type and a fairy is going absolutely rampant, having levitate, a reliable one-shot (since if Sneasler wants to do damage to Chimecho, he has to use Close Combat since it's immune to Dire Claw) and 4x resist Fairy.
>>
>>59181003
I don't run anything that really screams "wow, hit me with Thunder", so I dropped it for Static.
I'm mixed on the build since I saw some Nips run Fake Out, Nuzzle, Protect + Volt Tackle, but I run mine with Knock Off.
>>
>>59181005
It's just not really an immediate threat. When charizard or floette are on the field you need to deal with them asap. Chimecho just kinda sits around praying you ignore it long enough to build up cosmic power into stored power.
>>
>>59181005
Let's entertain this idea, how do you even build around Mega Chimecho? And what do you run on it? Checking his moves, he looks very underwhelming and doesn't have a lot to potentially deal with Zard or Incineroar here.

M-Banette is a tailroom mon. It can work inside of trick room, and it can work inside of tailwind, and if you bring both you can decide at team preview which mode is gonna make your opponent’s day worse. Low-mid 70s is a great speed stat for this.

Trick Room anon here, asking about Banette earlier. I just caught this in Scarlet. Does he have any use on a TR team in this meta? Without good items, Guts is out of the question so Sheer Force or Iron Fist?

This is my first time really attempting Comp Pokemon, but whilst I make a lot of mistakes still, the one that vexes me the most is the pre-battle Pokemon selection.
I fucking fumble half the time.
Don't get me wrong, I make plenty of mistakes during the matches, and I am learning from those. But I feel like 50% of my losses were due to me picking the wrong mons/leads.
>>
>>
>>59181164
outside of like, mega crab, conk is like one of the absolute strongest TR mons out there right now. if nothing else, it gets thunder punch so if you get TR up, you can absolutely delete the current rain weather fuckers
>>
There's so many neat megas I'd like to try, but I just know it's not gonna be worth it. Like I really like Mega Sharpedo, but that thing is just gonna instantly die in the face of Sneasler. Mega Altaria - dies to Sneasler. Mega Banette, dies to Basculegion. Mega Chesnaught, dies to Aerodactyl.
People kept saying "its gonna be so much fun playing such a new, varied and fresh format" and even on day 1/2, it was mathematically reduced down to 3 different teams, with minor changes to shape the meta. Sure, you can do well without that but you also have to work SO much harder.
>>
>>
>>59181233
At some point you need to stop trying to predict (exactly) who your opponent is going to pick and trust you made a good core instead of trying to hard counter everything they got.
If you're not sure what to do, try a suicide lead (like Aerodactyl) that just comes out to set up or hit something before going down so you can get some consistent value and go from there. Sometimes the problem isn't that you're picking the wrong Pokemon but that you're not giving yourself options to deal with them through move/ability selection. Experiment.
