It's enjoyable building stats and seeing how your daughter turns out, trying to optimize her schedule and all. Plus there's a bunch of secrets and things to do, like trying to beat the War God early or winning tournaments. I can see why that type of stat boosting game is boring to some people, but it's relaxing and fun for me in the same way as something like Harvest Moon.

Yeah exactly. Most of the game is managing her schedule to raise various stats (making her work on a farm to build strength for example) while making sure she is kept happy enough that she doesn't get depressed or sick or rebel against you.

There's also a simple RPG mode where you can send her out to explore, get into battles and find secrets.

This. It's relaxing and I really enjoyed my first playthroughs with modest endings. Then as I discovered more on the mechanics and new events, reaching General and Court Magician felt great.
I find the little animations for jobs and classes really charming.
