You guys do realize the games only come out on the 27th, right? That's emulated.
>>
>>
About to hack my 3ds and figured I’d ask here: where do you guys get your full set roms? I have nes, snes, genesis, and gba and I’ve got a link to the full set of VB roms on archive dot org, and I’m assuming I’ll download a set of DS games from archive but I’m more looking for the e-shop games that were taken down. I’ll def check archive for those but figured I’d ask here.
>>
>>12406889
Those newer games, you're probably just better off curating your own list. And don't fall for the rom set meme. Those only really work for systems like Gameboy (And color) since they're so short and varied you can spin a wheel and have something interesting you can jump in on immediately.

well yeah these things are not for kids, kids are performative so it has to be either something really impressive or a brand name like nintendo. A thor would've been good for the kid, not a cheap gameboy lookalike.
In middle school I got the same shit for having a GP2x instead of a psp but as soon as niggas saw me playing marvel vs capcom on it they stfu because they were too dumb to know about emulation. That wouldn't even be impressive now with a chinkheld because kids can just do that with their phone and everyone knows about emulators now.

Any curated collections out there to load into a SD card without hassle(that more or less cover all the classics and other well regarded games without most of the bloat of "complete" romsets) to get a headstart and just have to think about making sure your personal favorites are in there(if not, add them). I know that if I start overthinking things and have to pick every single game manually it's gonna be a huge anxiety inducing timewaste. I like having my bases covered and even being able to discover new games during power outages and such but without being completely overwhelmed with choice, basically I just want the obvious junk to be filtered out for me.
>>
>>12406942
You're a performative tourist. You should have a game you want to play, but you don't. You're the type to download a frontend and enjoy your "choice paralysis" instead of just playing a game.
You don't need to have a full library day 1. You build it.
People like you are like those rich fags who get into a hobby by buying someone elses collection. They have no appreciation for it and they get over it within a month because it all came to them fast so they sell it and move on to the next shiny thing.

What I did once was to look the top 100 games of each system and get those, then filter the genres I am not into.
It is easier with top 50.
>>
>>12406892
Yea maybe I should’ve been more specific I already have pretty much a curated list for the sets I said I had. I’m more looking for the e-shop releases hoping there was a complete set of that. I own a ton of DS games but the e-shop is mostly retro like the M2 releases such as Ecco. And then also a set of virtual boy games would be pretty small so not an issue there. Those are the two things I’m really looking for. I have a link to a set on archive of the VB games so I’ll give that a rip. Just wondering if anyone had a place where the entire e shop is available.

>>
>>12406948
Fuck off with your projections. Like I said, I wanted the piece of mind of having plenty of choice in cases where I'm away from the computer/without internet access. Of course I have specific games I wanna play(and I already do) but its too much of a curated selection.
>>12406959
Yeah that was my first thought but now I'm trying to avoid that not just because by having to look at games 1 by 1 it's gonna lead me to overthink and leaves no room for discovery.
>>12406962
I'm not the 3ds poster. My handheld runs dreamcast and n64 okayish depending on the game.

Bro how tf do you need more than 3 games at most at a time? Fucking finish your games, at what point are you going to be in a situation where you have no internet or computer access for a significant amount of time and the most important thing to you is having something fresh to play? fucking performative childish mindset

Sadly, this sort of stuff is firmly "unc-tech", it's cool as hell to someone who grew up with a gameboy that $40 can buy you a little device that can play ps1 games, but what's to be impressed about if you grew up with iphones? That and it firmly screams chinese ripoff, which it is, and no one was ever proud to show off their parents buying them the PolyStation Pro 7 from the discount rack.
>>
>>
Looking to get a chinkheld and trying to decide between the RG-477M and the Pocket Mini V2. The Mini edges out with the pros: analog triggers (meaning GCN with no concessions), ergos, size, price, etc; though I think I expect the 477's screen to be more helpful for 6th gen console games due to it's size and actually being 4:3. Not having analog triggers isn't a death sentence as well since there's more than enough retro games that don't need them, and they're both *portable* enough that they fit in a small sling bag, where they'd likely go instead of my pockets. Anybody with either willing to share their experience or someone more knowledgeable to give recommendations? I'm mostly looking for something 6th gen capable, not vertical, and can play SD games with the least amount of bezel without stretching them too far.
>>
If I ordered a retroid pocket 6, how long would I be waiting to actually get it? It says the next batch starts shipping in march, but if the previous batch started in january does that mean people have been getting them over the past three months?
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>12407067
The mini V2 is great. Admittedly I rather play PS2 on my RP5 but I think think the size of the screen is the issue. What I played looks fine.
How about the RG-476h? It's less powerful but I think it might fit you better (or just get a Thor)
>>
>>12407082
Why would I if I'm not in the slightest interested in dual screen games? Idk the dimensions of the bottom screen so maybe it could do what I'm looking for decently but then I have to deal with the vestigial top screen and DS control layout I've never been a fan of.
>>
>>
>>
>>12407089
Looked it up and I wasn't aware the 476 had analog triggers but knowing that now makes the decision a lot easier. Seems nearly exactly what I'm looking for other than performance but I'll see if I can find out how it runs what I'd want to play. Thanks anon.
>>
Chineseheld virgin here. Just ordered a RG XX35 H as my beginner handheld. Wanna start putting together a sd card with my selected games. Can someone explain what's the actual process actually like? Do I have to name folders in a specific way or something? Do I have to worry about anything else like bios files/emulators? Once I take out the card that comes with the device(which I heard they tend to fail fairly quick) all the preloaded emulators/bioses will be gone no? How about the OS-type software? Is that something I have to put in my card as well? I know there's like fanmade frontends and stuff but I would rather experiment with the default stuff first.
Pls no bully

I pre-ordered Thor with a credit card swipe,
a ceremonial gesture, a performative hype.
I'll never play games—don’t have time for that,
I just need the photo for my digital hat.
They say I'm a gamer, a retro elite,
I carry my device into the street.
At Starbucks I pose with a serious face,
a nostalgic prop in a digital space.
But GuangDong won't ship, it's holding my clout,
my followers ask what the delay's about.
The RAM prices climbed, they soared out of sight,
my unplayed collection is stuck in the night.
So I wait by the screen, and refresh once more,
a performative warrior trapped in the war.
No console in hand, but I’ll still make a song—
**Bongos Interlude**WOOOOOONGDEEEEEEEEENK!

you will need to have the device in hand first because you will it to format your (freshly formatted) card with all the folders and shit it needs
you do this by putting the card in and then turning the device on, this will make the boot time take longer than normal because it's going to be writing all of that shit onto the card before it actually lets you do anything, once it does you turn it back off, take the card out, put it into your pc and load up your roms by putting them in their appropriate folders
or you can try to do over the air shit with bluetooth or wifi, but i haven't tried to do that shit yet so i can't guide you there
i recommend stock and not trying to fuck with custom firmwares unless you have a lot of extra cards (and time) to do it with, at most i would say that modded stock firmware is the only one worth bothering with as the rest all have weird problems

My Dearest Thor Sister,
I cannot stop thinking of him — this Don Juan, this spectral suitor who holds my heart in pre-shipment limbo. He occupies my waking thoughts as completely as the tracking page occupies my browser tabs. By day I murmur his name like a prayer; by night I dream of labels created but never dispatched.
He is forever just beyond my reach — a lover who whispers promises from across the sea, who tantalises with the prospect of arrival yet remains ever-elusive. I have prepared my chambers for him: the ROMs arranged just so, the custom firmware polished to perfection, the SD card nestled in its reader like a virgin awaiting her bridegroom. And still... he tarries.
Oh, Don Juan! Thou art the cruelest of paramours — forever courted, never consummated. Thy warehouse is my heart; thy "Label Created" my eternal vow.
I am, dear sister, quite consumed.
Utterly, hopelessly, languidly undone.
Yours in waiting,
A Fellow Traveller on This Road of Pre-shipment Sorrow

Game packs typically never have stuff from other regions which you sometimes want for exclusive content or even just because there's good Japanese games out there. Translated games also regularly are out of date by a considerable amount of time. It's far better to curate your own list and manually patch everything as much as possible just to be up to date and have the correct versions.
Don't use stuff that comes with these devices either. They're always a mix of dumps from 20+ years ago that were already bad dumps back then, N-I dumps that may or may not even be the correct hash, anti-cheat patched roms which haven't been necessary for more than a decade at this point, or literal bootleg games.

ESCAPE FROM GUANGDONG
A Film Review by The Weekly Arts Gazette
"In a world where your package is always 'Label Created'... one man will risk everything to find it."
Director John Carpenter meets the existential dread of the Thor Sisterhood in this year's most unexpected genre masterpiece. "Escape from GuangDong" transplants the iconic Snake Plissken (played with weary gravitas by a sleep-deprived Russ, complete with his famous shorts and humble bulge) from the ruins of New York to the endless corridors of a Chinese shipping warehouse where thousands of pre-ordered Thors lie in limbo.
The year is 2026. The Thor has been announced, but never arrives. The tracking numbers all read the same: "GuangDong." AirForce One has crashed somewhere between the "Parcel Received" and "Customs Clearance" sectors. The President (a cameo by Jewey "Chewey" Dongsuckerberg, his baby-penis fingers gripping the presidential seal) is trapped inside the warehouse, surrounded by stacks of undelivered dreams.
Snake is given 24 hours to infiltrate the facility, rescue the President, and—more importantly—locate his own pre-order. His weapons? A cracked Android phone running 4.0, a 128GB SD card full of perfectly curated ROMs he'll never play, and the unwavering support of the Thor Sisterhood, who communicate via greentext and hover-black-bar signals.

Any handhelds that don't strain your hands over elongated play?
I got an RG35XXSP on a whim when they were cheap and it primarily held its place within my junk drawer until recently. I'll play shmups on and off, but I've been recently playing DQ6's weird SFC translation and it's been fun, but holy fuck after a couple hours of on and off play, my hands get absolutely destroyed.
I think it's the buttons that are straining my hands with how firm they are to push, but the ergonomics definitely don't help either.
I feel I don't have this issue as much with some other handhelds due to a better hand placement and softer buttons, but I usually like this handheld due to the long battery life/usb-c charging and being able to play a variety of consoles and arcade stuff on a whim.

Depends on what you want to play. If you really are just going to play indie games, then look up the compatibility lists for gamehub lite/game native and see if your games are on there. If so you can get away with an RP5 or Odin 3. But honestly at that price point I'd just get a used Rog ally Z1E or Legion Go unless you REALLY need OLED. They are actual x86 handhelds and you won't ever have to fiddle to get games to run or worry about future compatibility issues like people did when the original gamehub went bust.

The latest Thor video by Russ is hilarious.
He basically admits he has to use a different launcher because he can't stop himself from endlessly scrolling roms in ES-DE.
Then he says how he would love to play FFX if he had time, but to do so he would have to use a guide. That game does not require a guide to enjoy.
What is the guy's problem?

I have too many of these things and I'd like to pare them down to two devices. I have a Retroid Pocket G2, a 477M, a Retroid Classic, and a 34XXSP. the decision is between the G2 and the 477M and the 34XXSP and the Classic as each pair overlaps with each other too much for me. the G2 screen has better colors being an OLED and all but the 477Ms 4:3 screen and 120HZ allows it to punch above its weight, I also prefer how the buttons feel on the 477M aside from the clicky shoulders the metal body is nice to have too.
with the other pair I am mainly leaning towards the SP but I do like have six face buttons so maybe it is worth keeping that one but its not like I'd get much selling the SP and it is really good at GBA which is what I mainly use the secondary pair for anyway. I just hate having too many devices that do the same thing.
Since I can't decide I'll leave the decision in your collective hands

That's what I thought when I saw your consoles. The RG477M (OR RG477V) is pretty much essential for 4:3. You need the Retroid Pocket Classic if you want Saturn with the proper control scheme. You've got widescreen covered off with the G2. Then there's the SP which you find comfy and isn't worth that much if you sold it anyway.

He played through most of the NES classics like Castlevania. It's why his videos were so good, since he knew them inside out and could make funny criticisms of them. You can tell he didn't actually play the games subject in his later videos starting from SNES era and beyond.
Compare to Russ who only plays android slop and still hasn't beaten Hades 2 over the past year.

Take a deep breath kiddo, sing with me:
Soft Thor (The GuangDong Lullaby)
(To the tune of "Soft Kitty")
------------------------------
Soft Thor, warm Thor
Little ball of wait
Angsty Thor, happy Thor
Please… just… ship… late
Soft Thor, warm Thor
Still in Guangdong Bay
Pre-order Thor, performative Thor
Never ship… okay… bazinga?
Waiting Thor, anxious Thor
Stuck in customs lore
Plastic Thor, for show Thor
You don't play… for sure
Soft Thor, warm Thor
Label's still "pre-ship"
Angsty Thor, happy Thor?
No… just empty gripDonGuan!

if they could miniaturize personal display devices and make them a million times more comfortable while also being a million times cheaper, like they did for handhelds with the rg35xxh, then it would be kino
and no, valve's vaporware vrgoggles aren't it, still way too bulky, way too heavy, way too expensive, and way too concerned with vrfaggotry nonsense
the critical mistake valve is making is making it an entire self sufficient device rather than simply making it purely a display device only, and also caring too much about vrfaggotry inside out headtracking nonsense
anyone who's a vrfag already has a light curtain, and anyone who ever intends to become a vrfag is just going to get a light curtain anyways since inside out head tracking doesn't track their limb flailing which they need for their vrchat gooning
normal people don't care about or want vrfaggot shit. they just want a cheap, light, simple, and svelte personal display device

Compatibility is already better than NDSBootstrap.
Boot speeds are super fast
DS Pico supports DSi Ware
Supports DSi Enhanced titles so in those games they can use WPA on DSi for example like Black 2.
Lower power draw than almost every flashcart out there.
Getting an IR addon so you'll be able to do PokeWalker without having to actually own HG/SS.

I'm only just realizing that Steam Deck can do really, really well on Wii and Wii U emulation.
One question though, anyone know if there's a way to get Wii Motion plus games working on there? When I try playing this one (the only wii m+ game I even want to play) it wigs the motion controls on the touch pad out really bad and becomes unplayable.

I recently discovered my old samsung tablet has nearly the same chipset as a retroid 5, I've been smoothly playing smt nocturne on it at 2x res for the past couple days. Dunno if that counts for these threads, but just the tablet and a controller is easily as portable as a steam deck. I went looking for a similar tablet to a retroid 6 and got some sticker shock though, I thought I'd hacked the code on how to get something more trustworthy than a chinkheld but it's twice the price.

The latest premium chinkhelds have surpassed the steam deck and used rog allys in price. At this point I'd only buy them if you value the OLED and are certain your main gaming is done on Android. Otherwise for the price of a Thor max, I'd rather just get an x86 handheld and not have to fiddle with gamenative to barely run indie steam games.

The UI is quite simple and clean.
Stability is much nicer and compatibility is great. NDSBootstrap still has compatibility issues in some games and gives RAM errors in some romhacks.
The speeds and bootspeeds of games/saving are superior.
It's slightly less battery draining than TM++.
More accurate too.
Maybe I just love the simplicity in comparison.

Pokemon white. Surprisingly enough white and black 2 are direct sequels so it's worth it to play the previous versions first.
Shin Megami tensei strange journey
Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver. You might has well.

The MegaMan star force series is good. Try the DX hack for the first one, but sadly the second one sucks.

Im thinking Black > Black 2 anyways as Black you'll get Reshiram and Black 2 you get Zekrom. Also needed for Victini as I am doing an Origin Dex thing.
Also skipping HG/SS as Celebi isn't catchable there and don't want to really play games twice if I can avoid it so Im just doing Crystal on 3DS VC where you can catch Celebi.

If you download too many games, nothing in your library is special. Don't give yourself the "smoke the whole pack of cigarettes" treatment, just smoke one game at a time.

>>
>>12410769
First identify the systems you're actually interested in. Then you just curate an archive list system by system console with the games your interested in. Then from that you curate a top 20-30 per system and have that in your active list. More than that and you just scroll instead of play. As an example my snes/sfc archive that I actually want to play was something around 270 games, no point having them all the active list. Then you just change them out when your done. So just build from the ground up if you're goal is to actually play, download all games if you're a data hoarder.

I don't understand how frontends give people like Russ choice paralysis. Most of them have a recently played or favorites section. Just put the game you wanna complete there and go there when you boot up the device. You're the one making the conscious effort on whether or not to keep playing through the same game. You're the one making the conscious decision to go look at your list every time instead.

I actually read books, I can imagine stuff from text, that is not the issue (beyond, why would you deprive yourself from images when it comes to Audio-Visual games?
If your point is to be Neo and render complex scenarios with your mind from code alone, then read a book.
You are being performatively contrarian.
Choice paralysis is well documented, and many people mentions it. If you do not experience it, it is a great thing for you, but it is quite performative to go about letting everyone know not only you dont experience but you think they are wrong if they do.
Vegeterian Performativeness

Some consoles like the Miyoo, using OnionOS allow to have a Manuals folder in your console folder and yest it launches them from there.
MuOS can also have arbitrary folders in the emulators grid, so you create a "Manuals" folder in the same level of emulators and place all the .epubs or PDF there. I dont add all, but the one I am currently playing is usually there if it is needed, sometimes I just add the guides that came along with the game which have lots of trivia but do not tell you how to play word by word like GameFAQs

>go into the rom foldler of the console, look for my favorite games I definitely wanna have with me, copy and paste them to the card
>skim through the rest, look for names that sound familiar I know are well regarded but I never had enough time/interest to try, copy and paste them to the card(unless it's something I 100% know for a fact I will never ever play, in my case it's usually famous sports and racing shit)
>google "[console] hidden gems", grab a few of those and copy and paste them to the card
>one final list skim where I just grab some names that sound interesting or pick a few random ones, copy and paste them to the card
That's my process. Sure it's "incomplete" and there is a chance maybe there's something out there I would love that I won't have with me but at the end of the day it's mostly about my favorite games, everything else is a bonus. Having instant options and trying out games you know little about on a whim is nice, so long as it's not at such a large scale it ends up feeling like overwhelming clutter. Plus the process doesn't have to be final the first time, you can always trim it down some more or add whatever missing interesting thing you might learn about down the line.

The Passion Of The Thor:
by Lady Jewelia "Fingers" McForeskin
I pre-ordered Thor with impatient delight,
a hole in my wallet, a hole in my life.
I’ll never play games—I don’t have the drive,
I just need the plastic to feel more alive.
They say I'm a gamer, a retro devotee,
I flex at the café for all eyes to see.
With thumb on the button, a serious stare,
the thing never leaves its box anywhere.
But Thor hasn't shipped—it’s stuck in Guangdong,
the wait makes me open when nothing goes wrong.
The longer it lingers, the deeper the ache,
a performative stretch for performative's sake.
I check the tracking ten times a day,
preparing and widening in every way.
If Thor doesn’t come, I may never be full—
this waiting is making dilation so cruel.
So I breathe, and I wait, and I open up more,
a pre-ordered vessel, a dilated bore.
They said “soon it ships” but the date has withdrawn—
hover to complete this transitional song:DON JUAN!
** TRANS RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS **

I'm guessing these things aren't as plug and play as I thought. Probably was the SD card but I never would have imagined a standard Samsung SD card would have compatibility issues. Or I just got a lemon since I bought 3rd party though now I never would try to buy one of these not through a marketplace with a quick and easy return like Amazon or a reasonable shipping period (waiting months for this would be hilarious). I know you get what you pay for, but do some of you really pay 100s for devices so easily prone to failure? And I guess if I made the poor decision to get another with the refund, was there some setup I messed up on the storage side or another manufacturer better supported?

Well, the usual mistakes for newbies is hard powering off/resetting instead of safely shutting down which corrupts the card, doesn't seem to be your case. Try flashing a different card and it'll probably start working again, it's actually rather rare to get these things locked up and in need of pulling the battery so don't get too worried about that.

When I use a bluetooth controller with my phone, it'll intermittently have severe input lag (like a full half-second). It's weird cause it'll work fine for a few seconds, then have a few seconds of lag. Controller works fine with my PC. Is this just an android thing?
>>
>>12412169
is it the f710 or whatever the bluetooth version of the f310 is? because i know from experience that that piece of shit has this weird tendency to drop all inputs like it lost connection for at least 2 seconds every 5 minutes or so

If you're a faggot you should contact anyo and get a replacement
If you're based you should make social media posts , YouTube videos and a letter writing campaign about how you got screwed by buying the Thor because its trash
>>

Haven't gotten to switch yet but thanks, any other turnip versions of relevance for the RP5? I swear, it's a bitch to find power user info on this thing, cheap chinkhelds were more centralized.

Actually do this, ayn will offer you the best model as compensation to make you suck up their customer service.

if you're being genuine like 98% of chinkhelds play those

You are supposed to close the screens before inserting it into your rectum.
People who report anal insertions and Thor Extatic Transcendental States use the device in its close position and I reckon even lube.

The Thor is an obvious bait of a device. It's obviously a prototype and one should refrain from buying until they release a 2 or a revised version

Legend of the River King
Wario Land 1-3 are all meaningfully different, experimental gameplay. Donkey Kong '94 also notable for this.
MGS Ghost Babel and Resident Evil Gaiden
And the obvious ones, like Link's Awakening, Metroid 2, and Mario Golf.
I always recommend the GBC versions of Dragon Quest I-III, Monsters is also good.

One popular post on the safe-space that is the Ayn Thor subreddit is literally telling people to order replacement springs from Amazon because they're so shit they'll eventually snap. Not to mention the plastic from the trigger literally breaking, that one may be rare but I've never seen a trigger literally fall apart

It won't cost twice as much, even the 5090 doesn't cost twice as much.
By the time the Thor 2 comes out your Thor will already be effective though. I'd rather pay a well built $900 Thor that whatever cheap shit they're selling right now.

I don't have any other handhelds, so I don't see the point in waiting for a year or more.
If an improved model comes out by the time this one breaks I guess that's just good timing.
I thought that's how it was supposed to work with these chinkhelds anyway.

I thought about it but why should I? It plays ds fine, everything n64 and below. What more do I realistically need. I had the Thor and I didn't like how heavy and bulky it was. Anything powerful is just too big

Any emulation "home console" that can do analog output for SCART so I can use it in my euro CRT?

>The Thor is a huge hit, and deservedly so.
The Thor isn't a hit because it's a good handheld. It's a hit because of novelty, and because it's billed as a do-everything device.
In reality, it's a compromised experience for most people. The second screen brings all sorts of drawbacks, from ergonomics to software. But outside (3)DS emulation, it's of little to no use. The Thor also has design issues, particularly the "island" that allows a gap between the body and screen when closed. The RP Flip 2 is the better clamshell formfactor and size from a practical perspective, but unfortunately has the hinge as an achilles heel.
