They updated the Steam version
Game now takes more than twice as much space as before, the stupid shitty launcher was removed... and replaced with a different stupid shitty launcher, and framerate is broken making the game run in basically fast-forward during battles
I can only hope the GOG version that also just released today is not the same one since it's also on sale for $4, though it likely is.No they didn't censor the script

People who bought it on Steam anytime between it's release on July 4, 2013 to yesterday get to keep the old version and get the new version for free.
Also the GOG version is likely the same version since it dropped the same day this updated version did.

>Still have the original copy, 50GB modded, so it's not like they removed the older version. I'll give it a shot unmodded and relay my opinion.
Original version will just be renamed to "Final Fantasy VII (2013)" if you owned it before this update dropped. I had the original installed and it remained installed, was just renamed to that in my library.

Gonna do some hypers (lines of speed) and start this shit! Just finished installing.

Opening is heavily pixelated at 4k res. You can interpret that as being non-bastardized and faithful to the original if you want.

From the Steam reviews it seems like battles are running at 2x the speed and with desynced audio, is that not the case for you?

That's kinda pathetic.
>>
>>12409996
The battles are running fine. If they're running faster then that's a good thing. I've noticed that SFX don't play when in 3x speed boost when another SFX is playing. That's different from PSX, PC, PC 2013 but a very small detail. They probably do it so sounds don't overlap with 3x on.

Battles were originally 15FPS, they were upgraded to 30FPS (Could they not do 60?). There is also an item to make the game run at 3X speed.
Apparently though when this update/new version first dropped the battles were running at double speed, not just 30FPS. That appears to have been fixed pretty quickly, though it still baffles me how it was released in that state. It's not people only people with a certain configuration or GPU or something had the issue, everyone was experiencing it. How did that slip past testing?

How can they even tell? AFAIK the game has no DRM, and it's even on GOG now.

>People in 2025 are still white-knighting for anti-piracy for a mod of a game released in 2013 that is a re-release of a 1997 game
https://github.com/julianxhokaxhiu/FFNx/discussions/789
Damn, what is wrong with people like this? I legitimately own it yet seeing this pisses me off. The last thing people want is MORE DRM added to games, especially shoddy DRM put in a fan-mod. I would even trust Denuvo over this, since corporations still have to abide by laws, fans would do whatever the fuck they want. Anybody remember that Sonic fangame that was loaded with malware as a form of DRM?
Are idiots like this just that big of a white knight for multi-billion dollar corporations that attempted to get on any cash train possible (Remember when S-E announced they wanted to do NFTs AFTER the fad was dying and everyone hated them?) or are they under the massive misconception that if they act like they don't support piracy, they won't be sued? If so, go ask the Switch emulator devs how well that went, a corporation could not give two shits if you are "anti-piracy" or not. If your fan project has not been sued, it's either because they don't care, or they haven't gotten around to it, being assholes about anti-piracy is not saving your ass, just as long as you aren't advertising you are intentionally pro-piracy.

Just Googling it shows that there are cracked versions, but even though I own it on Steam and other platforms I would not trust a fan mod that ADDS drm personally, that's just asking for some idiot on the team to take matters into their own hands and go way too far with "protecting" the game. These homebrew drms always cross lines not even corporations would cross with their drm.
I wonder how these idiots are going to deal with the GoG version. Are they just going to admit they can't really provide any sort of legitimacy check for the GoG version and stop with this drm nonsense, are they going to refuse to support it because they can't put any anti-piracy crap in it despite clearly both GoG and S-E being ok with it not having drm, or are they going to do something stupid like demand you log into your GoG account on their mod manager to confirm you legitimately own it, I would completely not be surprised if they did the latter. Sad part is, if they tried that I know idiots would defend it instead of rightfully call them out and blacklist them. Even the Sonic fanboys had the guts to blacklist that dev who tried to drm his fangame with malware level bullshit.

I have the PSX discs which I bought 3x before '05. I have the pirated PSX ROM. I have the '98 PC Win95 version. I have the 2013 PC version. And I now have this version.
The files are on your PC even with Steam, you have the game. You can copy-paste them somewhere else if you're worried about Steam wiping your folder.

The game runs 320x240 on PSX, I'm playing 3840x2160 so it's expected. They also lost the original art files for backgrounds 20+ years ago. That pic also has the escape menu filter over it, here's without.
Everyone complained when they put a blur filter on FFVIII Remaster's field screen backgrounds, so I guess they gave people what they asked for.
>>
>>
>>12410625
You must be legally fucking blind if you didn't notice that they'd added a blur filter to the backgrounds for this release. It's exactly the same as what they did to FF8. I don't think the AI upscaled backgrounds from something like Moguri Mod look perfect, but they're FAR better than a shitty blur filter. Squenix are just too fucking cheap and lazy to do something similar.

I just found out it released an hour before I went to sleep last night. I haven't seen any so far other than: the controller setup moving to a new screen, it runs really well with no screen tearing, it runs well at 4k, it has a built-in 3x speed boost, they fixed the weird glitch where in the 2013 version pressing directions would be input twice some times and you'd overshoot. It runs much smoother than emulated, and yes I know how to experiment with emulator settings.
Tbh I don't expect to find more differences but I'm going to play more tonight. I don't speedrun so anything relating to that I will not find.
Again, got this for free. From what I've seen it's likely the best non-modded version. It's quick, it's smooth, and getting the 3x speed boost was the original reason I started modding anyway.

I think we need to look at what it really means to be a fan of something. Like if someone can appreciate a game and understand it on a deep mechanical level that's a fan. If someone has a house full of final fantasy merchandise and owns 15 copies of ff7 regardless of quality that's cattle that's been infected by a corporate brain parasite. If you're personality is just liking a brand completely arbitrarily that doesn't seem like being a fan to me, and I think you'll find that the excuses someone gives for being a ff7 megafan stink pretty bad.

I'm probably gonna play the re-release, but I'll wait a little more to see if all the issues have been ironed out.
Also, What's the best way to experience FF6 ? Should i get the pixel remaster on steam or should i emulate the original on ares?
>>
>>12410813
>What's the best way to experience FF6 ?
Imagine a world where the final fantasy series never existed. Now imagine if a weird 2d sprite game called Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster came out in 2022. How popular do you think it would be, would it sell 10 copies? 20? Why would they make a game like this just compare it to Red Dead Redemption 2.
Now imagine the reality where the final fantasy series has existed since 1987 and the 6th entry in that series is being released on the modern console the Super Famicom. I saw a trailer for this game and the graphics look incredible. Fast forward 5, 10, 20, 30, years and people still talk about this game and how its possibly the greatest game on the console and one of the greatest RPGs of all time.
Which version would you rather "experience"?

What? 25 years ago, when I was 13, I didn't really give a shit and ended up scratching a lot of my discs. Then one time my "GF" in middle school borrowed disc 2 only for her dad to get deployed to another continent, if you just need to know. So I bought the greatest hits version again at the base exchange for $20. Why is this important again?

I guarantee that you are a retarded cunt if you didn't immediately notice that the backgrounds are blurry fucking soup. It has nothing to do with playing at 4K, you stupid faggot. I assume the suggestion other people get their information from Jewtube is projection and you're actually some zoomer LARPer playing the game for the first time, because anyone remotely familiar with FF7 would know the pixellated look the backgrounds have without some godawful fucking blur filter applied to them.

>But if we don't put DRM in our mod for a 30 year old DRM-free game, people in China might bootleg it, just like they bootleg every other fucking game anyway!
Oh the horror. This is seriously the reason the 7th Heaven Mod has DRM? Because China might create bootlegs of it?
Also, this sounds like it will be used as an excuse to not support the GoG version considering it was in reply to someone asking about GoG version support. Fuck these guys. Multi-billion dollar corporations don't see this as an issue worth kneecapping their games over but they think their fanmod is high and mighty enough to warrant it? They aren't even the original devs of the mod, they took over updating the original version of 7th heaven.
>>
>>12410687
What's with poorfags who try to act superior because they are too poor to actually afford anything? The game is under five fucking dollars on GoG right now, that's less than your shitty Big Mac lunch. If you don't want to pay even that then fine, but acting like you are smarter for pirating a game when I have been doing that before you was even a sperm just makes you look like a retard coping about being poor.
>>
>>
>>12412089
I don't think it's anywhere near half, but there are a large amount of DRM-free games on Steam, though on GoG it's a requirement that EVERY game on there have no DRM. Regardless, it's a very poor excuse to put DRM on their mod.

On what planet does someone use steam to purchase and play this game when there has been psx emulation for nearly 30 years?
The only time I can see it being worth buying a port of this game is if all you own is an XBONE or ps4 and want to play it. But whether Mac windows Linux emulating looks better and has more options like custom fast forward speed, “cheats” if you need to cheat, upscaling to retina (2k) or 4K,.. And it’s FREE to play the best game of all time.
Also the game is perfect as is so no there is no need for a tranny-lation. Although a mod to have wind and water materia would have been neat it probably would fuck up the game too much. But it just seems asinine to buy this on steam.

>>
>>
>>12412026
Sounds like you're mad. Really mad. The funny thing is that I probably played the game years before you did. On psx on CRT. Sad.
It has everything to do with playing at 4k. The backgrounds have to be stretched as resolution increases can only change the 3D stuff. And it's just fine. It doesn't bother me one bit.

I just went back to replay this and started the PS4 version that I forgot I bought a while back. There was an annoying filter over a lot of things, the audio felt like it was peaking often, and on top of that it hitched and lagged frequently. It's insane!

Then play it at 320×240 with disc load times and some mild screen tearing. I like having options. Idk about every release ever but some FF ports only apply the blur 720 and above. No idea about this one, don't care, it looks fine.

Another difference, the 2013 port let you type names on keyboard even when using a controller - this doesn't.
Also the 3x boost doesn't work in the train ride segments and probably more scenes in the future. Manageable so far.
>>
>>12412603
Also the steam screenshot key doesn't work for some reason so I've been print-screening and pasting into paint. There's probably a fix or maybe that's just for me, it's really easy to take good shots with the Steam "\" trigger I'd like to have it for yjod.

Somehow I doubt it's as easy as literally setting IsGamePirated()=false, if it was then there wouldn't be people complaining left and right about it's aggressive DRM if it was that easy to remove. And yes, I know people are idiots, but there is no way in fuck that absolutely nobody would realize you can just change a single value in the code and recompile it to remove the DRM check for all this time if it was that easy.
I love how they try to claim that they would not be able to exist if they didn't put DRM in their mod (Never mind every other game mod that does not have DRM not having an issue with "existing") and try to act like the good guys, and of course because it's a niche group, everyone kisses their ass over their sob story.
(Also, they claim that it now works with the GoG version. Did they give up already on implementing DRM since there is no way to tell a legit from a pirated GoG game or did they actually implement some batshit insane intrusive DRM like I mentioned to try to verify your GoG account or something just as overstepping?)

>FF7's plot is infinitely more interesting than any DQ game's
True, there's no denying that.
>Gameplay wise, you're comparing
Dragon Quest vs FF. DQ wins because it's far more focused on making sure the game part is actually compelling. JRPGs don't normally just 'advance' so that everything later on is superior to what came before, but DQ actually builds on what came before instead of just throwing the previous game's systems away every time.

>>
>>12414240
>Somehow I doubt it's as easy as literally setting IsGamePirated()=false,
It is. Take a look at that file (7th-Heaven/AppUI/Classes/GameConverter.cs), that function (IsGamePirated()) has a very strict check for files they consider to be "pirated". But you can replace everything inside it with return false; which is the actual return value when the game is considered "not pirated". For most people, compiling is the issue, so they're stuck using the pre-compiled packages with the function intact.
