So I've made the unwise decision to get into skateboarding in my 30'sand good Lord, I'm enjoying it.
For my future hospital visits, could I get some recommendations on some /vr/ skateboarding titles?
(As an aside, anyone have pre-installed and cracked versions of TH Pro Skater 1-4? They are weirdly hard to find online as the new version has overtaken them in the search engines)

Do you skateboard to work? Walk into the office with your skateboard.
Skateboarding is not inherently more dangerous if you are older than before if you are not halfpiping and doing crazy stunts.
Also yeah, the THPS series is obviously a good choice. There were skatboarding games before, but with the success of THPS this popularity then also lead to increased prestige of the genre leading to more content and development time pt into it. Not automatically a guarantee of quality, but the first THPS titles are very well recieved and highly regarded.

I just coast around the park in addition to my walking, running, and backpacking. Figured I'd add something a bit more "fun" on top of my various outdoor activities and just took a shot in the dark on skateboarding. Honestly, it might get to the point where I give those various skate parks a go, but that's a ways out.
And I figured. I was watching some gameplay for 2 and it genuinely looked fun. The only pain is trying to track down the pc version of those older titles, or at least I'm having a weirdly hard time. Debating just grabbing the ps1 iso's for my vita.

I got into skateboarding because of Thrasher: Skate and Destroy. It's probably not great now but you even get to run from policemen and that tickled 10yo me's fancy.
Obviously there's THUG and THUG2.
I had no trouble finding the PS2 isos of THPS 3 and 4 last month, they work fairly well but they stutter and there's a little controller lag that isn't great for the game. I used to have 2 on PC, so I know they exist but good luck. Have you tried that one site that all the weebs use to catalog torrents?
I skated from 10-22, I absolutely sucked but had a great time. You will hurt yourself and wear your joints unnecessarily. Chances are, you'll hurt yourself a lot a lot if you start trying stunts like small staircases or grinds. Great cardio if you're just using it to get around. Going down big hills was always fun though I'd be too scared now in my upper 30s. Enjoi.

Just checked for you, they don't have it. Just the three in picrel. The PC versions have to be out there somewhere, does GOG sell them. If so there should be captain jack sparrow versions.

I do stunts in RWD manual cars now. Much safer :P
I took out the board last summer (an '00s Element Fiberlight) and I can still ollie, but my body just wasn't feeling it.

>went from something cool to something cooler
Acceptable.
>but my body just wasn't feeling it
I feel that, I had to go through that myself when I was getting back into hiking and backpacking. Eventually my body adjusted back to the way I used to be, but it took a fat minute.
Also, I appreciate you checking 'that site'. Figured they wouldn't. It is odd how difficult it is to find the original pc ports though. Gonna check yandex then probably just go for the ps1 versions. I don't trust the more surface torrent sites anymore, even for old games like this.
>>
Good ol' yandex first result (Google has been so thoroughly ruined it's wild):

Apparently it contains repacks. Posting for those who get sorta in the mood to play them due to the thread. Gonna get on my pc in a sec and see if it all works well.

Pre-2008 American culture was a good time. Sucks because I'm sure there was some messed up stuff going on in the background considering how bizarre everything has become with literal pedophile Satanists running everything, but I miss when things were like this.

longboarding is a great alternative to skateboarding if you're more into speed/cruising/coasting rather than lots of pushing and tricks.
longboards have heavier boards and bigger wheels so you a get a real smooth ride and just feels like you're flying down the hills. obviously wanna wear pads and helmet though bc you can fuck your shit up at high speeds.
my roommates and i spent an entire summer out longboarding and learning coleman slides, and made our own slide gloves. absolute blast.

My friend actually has a longboard and all my talk about how much fun I'm having got him to break it out to go with me. I'll have to give his a try. Right now I have a regular skateboard and some bearwalker board specifically made for coasting that's apparently something inbetween a skate and longboard.apparently they are usually for display but the people that ride them have good things to say about them and I don't really care for the Pokémon.

>>12414013
looks like a nice board, i think i had seen a few similar hybrid boards before.
yeah try out his longboard for sure, super addicting to ride once you get a little comfortable.
my board is a santa cruz but i put some butter ball wheels on it for some nice slides.

thanks, Santa Cruz is a good brand and reasonably priced, have had two of their boards.
it's been a long time since i got it but i think it was around 60-70 dollars new.
There are some higher end boards too like Land Yachtz that are 200-300.
My friend had a Land Yachtz though and I think I actually preferred my Santa Cruz. Probably all depends on what you get used to and how you set it up though.
>>
>>12414142
Gotcha
>60-70
So probably double or triple that now of days with inflation. Still, having some brands to look out for makes trolling around ebay for a good deal a lot easier. I'll definitely keep my eye out and if I see a board I like from one of those brands I'll snatch it up.threads becoming a weird mix of /vr/, /sp/, and /out/. Not that I mind.

I miss downhill longboarding man, I’ve never felt more free from all the bullshit of life than when I was flying down a hill at 35mph. Just totally focused, in the zone, feeling the pavement flowing under my board and the wind whipping my shirt. I’m 29 now, and haven’t been able to skate in about a year and a half due to a foot injury in my push foot that still bothers me. I really hope im able to go out again this summer and at least ride some hills, that shit is like medicine for my soul. And even just distance pushing with some tunes in, all alone on a summer afternoon can be a really special vibe. I spent so many years going around my area and scoping out fun and peaceful skate spots. Also had a lot of fun with friends back in the day. Longboarding gets a bad rap from some people but for me it was one of the most fulfilling hobbies. I also skateboard, but the fulfillment from that is different. It’s far more frustrating, difficult, and punishing, but it’s still fun. I got to the point where I could do kickflips and then ended up riding cruiser boards for a couple years, which is basically a hybrid between a skateboard and a longboard. Those are also really fun in their own way, but aren’t as ideal for going long distances or high speeds, which is what I prefer.
I recommend any anon, no matter how old, to give it a try. I taught two friends in their twenties how to ride, at first they couldn’t push at all but eventually we were hitting hills together and skating miles by the lake while drinking twisted teas

>free from all the bullshit of life than when I was flying down a hill
absolutely man, that's what it was all about for me too. just carving back and forth down a nice hill or sometimes bombing a big one. it really is an underrated and unique feeling like surfing the streets. been a while since i've boarded and i need to get back into it for sure.
so fun when you find a really good hill or series of hills with no traffic.
and yeah highly recommended WITH pads and helmet though! i had some pretty nasty falls and am lucky i didn't destroy my knees or elbows.

Tried my friends longboard tonight aftergetting rearended. All cosmetic but it's never fun.
I'm getting one. At first it freaked me out how much flexibility it had in the middle. I'm still a bigger guy working off the weight so getting on it I figured it was gonna be super unstable and potentially break, but after getting used to it for a bit it felt amazing. Definitely buying one. Might actually put in the extra hours of work so I can splurge a bit on a nice one considering how much I liked his. It felt as smooth as >>12414089 said.
>I’m 29 now, and haven’t been able to skate in about a year and a half due to a foot injury in my push foot that still bothers me.
That really sucks. I know for myself I usually push through stuff like thatafter praying over it. That, and having worked at one of the busiest warehouses in the country you learn to push through pain and discomfort. Still, I don't know if that's necessarily advice I'd offer up for somebody to takeoutside of the praying part.
>or sometimes bombing a big one
Almost experienced that tonight. Found a somewhat steep hill at the park and figured "nothing ventured, nothing gained". Went on down and kinda had a panic response as the speed began to build. Tried to stop without ever having stopped on a hill that steep before and almost fell backwards off the board. Not doing that again without the proper helmet and pads. Been mostly on flat ground before that.

Locate clean copies of the PC games(easy to find on archive.org) and then grab PartymanX's partymod for each game. It'll make them all run at any resolution, add controller support and fix most of the bugs and rendering issues you'll run into playing the games on modern hardware. These are similar to the clownjob mods you'll probably see people tell you to install but these are newer and just work better. If that's too much work honestly the games work just fine on PCSX2 as well, you'll just get slightly more input delay and playing in HD won't look as good.
>>
>>12417107
The repacks here contains all the fixes I believe >>12411963
They play really well on PC, though for whatever reason I still think the dreamcast version of Pro Skater 2 looked better than PC and PS1, but it could have been the emulator settings I was running. Also, even if it looked a bit better it was SUPER unstable on the emulator.
Only one that was acting a bit funky was Underground. Ran fine on my pc, but upon moving it to the Steam Deck it wouldn't recognize any inputs at all, neither pc or controller, so just emulating that with a bunch of hacks and settings to make it look like its pc counterpart.
>>
>>
>>12417128
Ah, gotcha. Maybe that will fix whatever is going on with Underground. I'll try and do a clean install of them soon and mod them.
Also, Underground is as good as everyone says but leaves me insanely melancholy for more 'normal' times.

Nice work anon, I've picked up my board after a 15 year gap thanks to my 3 year old starting on her scooter. Have had a blast with her tearing around a car park, I'm getting less wobbly the more we do it and kickflips are getting smoother and higher. Cruising round is awesome too and as the other anon mentioned, get a longboard as they are really fun to ride around, seeing how far you can get with just one push as well as doing manuals on them

Bet that's a lot of fun for the kiddo too and it's always nice to know you're making some core memories with em.
It'll be nice when I can attempt a kickflip, but for now I'm just still trying to get consistent balance and confident pushes.
>get a longboard
Eyup, keeping my eyes peeled for a good one that looks nice and is the right price on ebay. So far I just can't find the right mix of length, style, and design to fit the asking prices, but when I see it I'll know it and snatch it up. Tomorrow I'm planning on working some extra hours so I'll have a bit of spending room if I see a board I love.

that's why I haven't used >>12414013 yet. It's silly because I don't care for the pokemon, I got it for 60 bucks brand new so it's not like I'd be out a ton of money if I scuffed it real bad or broke it, yet because it looks so nice and its original price being $250 I'm too skeeved out to ride it just yet.
Funny how perceived value can mess with you like that.

Also, love how the seller talked up longboarding just as much as you guys have been. Completely unprompted they started talking about how therapeutic the whole thing can be.
