They were already doing it in MKX when she was just a 00s scene chick and not a Filipino lesbian

If you just need to know what the initial phenomenon was about, yeah MK2 or umk3 if you like more advanced shit. But if you like MK, MK4, DA, and Deception all have their merrits too
I won't stop stating how even during the 3D era, MK was still one of the most popular fighters along with Tekken and Soul Caliber. Just facts regardless of how people feel about the franchise or just the 3D games

A lot of times things sell because of the goodwill of the last thing. MKX was pretty well liked aside from story/character elements some fans didn't like, so of course lots of people bought MK11. Not everyone waits for reviews and YouTube videos to come out before purchasing a game, seeing a movie, etc etc

Best Reptile is from MK II.
He was a big deal back then because of being the mysterious secret character from MK1 being playable.
He wasn't on 3, and by the time he appeared in Ultimate he just meshed in with all the other ninjas.

2, Ultimate, Deception, Shaolin Monks and 9 are the best. I like 4's atmosphere and some parts of 11 although the latter tried to hard to be a capeshit.
X is seems to be liked by the people but I find it kinda boring overall.
Avoid 1 at any cost. The only good thing there is the new secret fighter in 20-something-years and he's not even that interesting.

During the 3D era, I said. Third Strike was never popular until post SF4...it was "le underrated gem" that got millions of YouTube videos about it and now people think it was actually well received when it came out. Garou is similar but SNK was just always more obscure in general. Darkstalkers was completely forgotten in the late 90s and 00s, Marvel ate it's lunch and even Marvel wasn't nearly as casually popular as Tekken etc

trying to explain how sfIII wasn't popular like it is now is like trying to tell people Marvel used to be less popular than DC and that nobody cared about the Acengers. they can't comprehend how popular opinions change

I think you retards actually completely missed the point.
None of the 3 games listed were more popular that was sarcasm.

Nobody really played Virtua Fighter in America after 1996 and this is an American/British website. Regardless, the point was more that fans of Mortal Kombat itself might also like the 3D era not fans of Virtua Fighter who are probably the most insular, strictly Japanese, competitive arcade based player base of all, horrible comparison. I compared it to 00s Tekken and Soul Calibur on purpose because those were all fairly casual popular games when the whole fighting genre was being ignored in the West in favor of FPS
The 3D era games for MK mostly got a bad rep from aging old school fans on the Internet who couldn't move past 2D gameplay in general, but they were enjoyed plenty by others with Armageddon being the only one considered a weak entry in the series without bias

Don't tire yourself out moving those goal posts.
For anyone wondering no one gives a shit about 3D MK anymore. It's the opposite of overlooked games that became cult classics. Maybe there's a few autists that still play it instead of Virtua Fighter/Tekken.

Not my fault you're a dirty ESL and missed a word. And nobody plays retro Tekken, there's literally no reason to. Tekken has no lore or story development anyone cares about and the scene is defined by the current game not the old, because Tekken doesn't reinvent it's gameplay like SF or MK. And nobody plays VF at all outside of Japan.
People do still talk about 3D MK though actually because there's a whole Gen of zoomers who grew up with it and have actual nostalgia for it that they don't with classic. In the same way the Star Wars prequels now get positive discussion because of the kids who saw it first now being adults, same for MK.... only 3D MK actually does have some more merit than SW prequels

It's well known about Tekken, the reason Tekken players just move onto the next is because yeah...there's no "new version" like SF2 to Alpha to 3 etc. it's the same shit just the next version just like say, each version of SF2. There are some minor things in certain games or the Tag games being preferred by some but Tekkens core players just move onto the next because it's the same shit building upon itself

It annoys me how much "raptor" gets used as a cool name for reptillians. Raptor means bird of prey, so unless it's a specifically bird like reptillian, like a velocitaptor, it shouldn't be called that. Reptile always either resembles a generic humanoid with scaley skin, a turtle/lizard, or most recently a fucking alligator/lizard
