"2D" fighting games are just as three dimensional as something like soul calibur because you can jump into the air as an equivilent for sidestepping

and in soul calibur you can completely invalidate stepping by pressing 1 button and yet both are used to juke around the other guys moves and hit them

Agreed. Kinda of a shame that Tekken is the only one of the 3D fighters that has any mainstream presence when it's the worst of the crop.
