torrents don't get taken down. roms barely take up any space whatsoever and it's trivial to back up literally every console game ever made forever

The official Discord server. The webmaster announced it's going offline on March 31.
And, according to them, none of it had to do with being too open about its existence and C&Ds coming of it. It's actually due to rising component costs and no one donating money for sustainment (something people around here always scoff at).

It absolutely sucks don't get me wrong, but I feel like this is more of an example of someone biting more than they could chew (wanting to be the go to rom source and run hShop) and not understanding the logistics more than anything. I've rarely used the site, but hopefully they regroup in the future and relaunch. Also option 2 is fucked up. Who the fuck was paywalling myrient?

No, not that one. Though they do occasionally remove files that might potentially bring the legal hammer down on them. Especially nowadays after that whole mess involving various book publishers back during the kung-flu.

unsurprising since redditard script kiddies were making stuff to bypass the bandwidth limit instead of donating, entitled fucks have no right to cry after leeching off the host until they sucked out all its blood, fucking retarded pieces of shit

High download speeds only matter if you want to download entire sets, so they don't matter since you still have time to download Myrient's files
I genuinely don't mind downloading a PS2 game at 4 MB/s if I'm actually going to play it for a dozen hours

Speaking of irl guns I've been selling all my old games and with the money been buying guns and ammo
So far I've bought a Beretta 92fs, a ruger gp-100 and a Henry frontier .22 lever action rifle just by selling my old pokemanz games

Myrient's greatest value to me has been PS3 games.
Vimm has them (they're even decrypted, reducing the amount of work I need to do before moving them to my PS3) but not all of them.
So that's going to be biggest loss.

That's just a smokescreen. The owner is probably in prison for a minor violation. (Violating a minor.)

While $50 isn't reasonable his take is. I paid $180 for a 16tb external drive. That is enough to fit every single game that is considered retro for this board plus extra. The drive is slow but who cares, it's gonna sit in cold storage until I need it.
>>12415015
Relative to most modern games they really don't the absolute most biggest game you'll find on PS2/Xbox/Xbox 360 is like 9gb and even that's a rarity. A handful of multi disc games existed but those are so rare it's crazy. The PS3 obviously had the ability to have much larger games and a lot of the exclusives for it are much bigger, generally around 20-30GB. Still even with all of that you can spend like $500 tops to have enough storage space to have literally every single console game ever made up to like 2014-ish. If you take out multiplats you're looking at even less than that.
I have like 90tb of storage space so this shit ain't nothing to me man, just buy more drives lmao they aren't expensive.

I genuinely don't understand what happened to P2P for people to be so turned off by it. My entire life I used torrents because DDLs have the expectancy of having a short term lifespan in comparison for the convenience. They were both good, but one very clearly is ignored for the other.

Bro, come on, are we really going to pull this crap? This was a website that through all intentions met the true definition of preservation and was actually UNDER the lid compared to Vimm's Lair and CDRomance. People didn't know about it. The fact it got impacted (and laterally exploited by mass downloads) is something to be concerned about.

Are you implying that, since there are no ads on the site, he got so much money from donations that he could afford the upkeep + profit but he is choosing to throw away this gravy train and shut down the site to.......... bait donations even though you think he was already making money from donations?

I haven’t really looked yet, but does the site have the entire set of DBZ, because I wouldn’t mind putting that in my 3ds. Also, get your def jam fight for ny downloads before its gone cuz that shit is like 130 dollars for a decent looking disc.

This
Any time I found a torrent of anything uncommon or rare I had been looking for, unless it was something that just came out all the torrents were always at zero seeds.

That form of the meme is old enough to be retro itself by now (not saying the PS3 itself is), just because the PS3 was around long enough to eventually get games. The modern version of it is that The PS5 Has No Games, because after all these years the goddamn thing still has fucking nothing.
I know, because I didn't bother with a PS5 because there were no games to interest me, meanwhile I dusted off my PS3 last year and have had a ball.
Now I just need to find an old CRT screen in decent condition for my old NES, so I can get my Duck Hunt and Lone Ranger on. Also a fixed controller for my N64, along with a flashcart and the RAM expansion.
>>12417769
It's bad news, but just know that this CAN all be rebuilt.
I know it's for hosting cost reasons, but those of us who care can still make sure to take part in hoarding content to preserve it, so that something like this can be built once again.

>I genuinely don't mind downloading a PS2 game at 4 MB/s
is that supposed to be slow? the average PS2 game would only take like 15-30 minutes to download at that rate. something meatier like FF10 would only take an hour. i think the largest games on the PS2 were around 8gb which would be ~2 hours at that speed; literally just go eat a meal and take a fat shit and come back and your game is ready.
>>
>>12413948
I am downloading all RA files. I don't care about cheevos but my logic is that almost all good games would be popular enough to someone bother to do a set for them. It is under 3TB total and the PS2 is more than half of it. And for Wii/WiiU/3DS MyRient wasn't the best option anyways.
>>
>>
>>12416325
Same.
Literally never heard of these Myrient place.
Like unless its bottom of the barrel japanese only old games I have been able to find any game I want.
CDRomance hasn't failed me in that regard.

Like sure it sucks an alternative is out but this just doesn't feel like a big deal?
>>
>>12418837
You're kinda mistaking this for a source of an easy DDL instead of what it is, friend. You have to genuinely see it as preservation first. You could always get whatever you want unless it was ultra obscure off the stuff linked here. This is literally preservation for the sake of preservation. Manuals, advertisements, demos, and all matters of miscellaneous things in the context of video games was ON THIS SITE as a means of a historical record that has the added bonus of being able to be freely checked out.
I get why it seems whatever, you just have to change how you're looking at it. There are things on here that are preserved in other places, sure, but this was the largest repository. Its a library.
>>
>>
>>12418850
Alright so its not only games. The manuals being preserved sound cool.
I can see now why its a huge loss.
>>12418878

Hope you finally figured out your favorite games to buy
On the positive side, there aren’t that many great games, I went through most of em and you’re not missing a lot
Maybe 100 for nes 100 for snes/genesis then that number goes way down in the 30’s for every other system
>>

>>12420971
I could trim pretty much all consoles to under 100 easily except snes/sfc, my pc archive of that is like 270 and I have really tried to remove every shitty game and every game I'm not interested in playing.

>FUD
How do you protect yourself from exposure using torrents in 2026? If you can't provide a simple and straightforward answer to me, you can't blame anyone for "falling" for FUD and choosing not to take the risks.
>>
>>12421083
Any VPN that you pay for will mitigate most to all of the risks. Even then, 90% of the worries are unfounded. I don't think anyone in America has gotten in legal trouble for downloading from torrents. Just have basic common sense and you're fine.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>12421146
Yes but I've never heard of people getting in legal trouble for seeding either. I've only heard of people getting arrested or fined in the US for uploading and sharing the original torrent or file. If you're downloading or seeding for only a little bit then you're fine.

>>
>>
>>
>>12421112
Yeah so you realize needing a paid VPN is a major barrier to entry for an average normalfag who might be willing to seed for you, right?
As for legal trouble in the US, that depends on a lot. I myself have gotten a warning from my ISP. This was 12+ years ago. I had never gotten warning for anything personally but my roommate at the time was seeding current episodes from a very popular premium-network TV show. I wouldn't have known except the acct was in my name and so the message with details about what they'd observed was sent to me.
Were they bluffing? Maybe.
Did either of us want to find out? Answer is no.
So how many other hundreds or thousands of seeders over the last decade have been discouraged by these simple tactics?

Never even heard of this shit. I downloaded full romsets for a bunch of platforms ages ago and whenever I want something I don't have I just google it, usually finding it on archive.org. People are talking about preservation but why would anyone think any piracy website would last? They're all always being killed and replaced, I still miss the old isohunt. Before thinking of preserving the roms, you need to think of a way of preserving the preservation websites in the first place.

Calling someone a Jew for having a solid argument is comparable to calling someone an Aryan in 1939 for being handsome, strong, and intelligent. In this view, calling someone a Jew is meant as a compliment.
Think about it, your life's purpose is to serve the Jews directly or indirectly. You basically call that Anon your master, but you're too dense to grasp the most obvious truth.
