I managed to find a Konami Arcade Style IIDX controller for a good price finally. Picked up some of the games and rigged the audio through my sound system. ( not a “good” sound, a Panasonic receiver / speakers from the 70s, much better then the crt audio since it’s a music game and whatnot )

I remember hearing about these controllers when I was in school, at the time ordering was was straight up impossible for a bunch of reasons, so finally getting to play these “properly” was something I wanted for a long time.

Just wanted to share and recommend that you pick up something that you have wanted for a while.

I love the music in these old styles, but the charts are usually pretty shit. And I'm not even talking about the difficulty, there's a load of uncomfortable patterns e.g. trills on adjacent columns, weird choices on what line in the music the notes follow and stuff like that. Basically you're making a hard time for yourself if playing without random. Plus many of them are unbalanced and peaky, being simple af for 80% of the time and then shitting all over the screen with notes during the chorus that feels like going from a modern 6 to 11-12 in seconds.
Still, the aesthetics and music are great. Konmai should rechart those old songs, but they don't give a fuck apparently.
