The developers made this game sound so much more interesting in interviews. I'm an hour in and falling asleep, dreadfully boring. The early 2000's were not kind to Capcom.

Your fault for playing a game that has a reputation for being complete garbage. There are so many good games that you'll never have time to play them all in one lifetime. Spending time playing trash like this is illogical.

Every time someone defends this game they bring up the bloody interviews. I don't give a hoot about how good the developer SAYS the game should have been, I want it to actually be good. Talk is cheap and Dragon Quarter – the real game that actually exists, not the one in Ching-Chong Magoo's mind – sucks.

It's fun, there should've been more skills to play around with instead of gating them behind the ants and/or specific steals, and status abilities are a total crapshoot, but the game remains interesting
Wish more japanese devs dabbled in non-grid isometric RPGs, there was potential in there for sure

You should post the japanese cover if you want to actually sell people on the game.

I think this game is cool and interesting but just shouldn't have been a BoF game. They were really hitting their stride as a series with 3 and 4 and they should have kept that energy going a bit longer before trying such a drastic departure

I still haven't gotten round to playing any of the Breath of Fire games, but I remember liking this trailer when I was a kid, it was on one of those PS2 magazine demo discs.

I'm playing this game right now, never played BoF before. I like how this game isn't afraid to push your shit in, just got through the part where you had to do three boss fights in a row. I'm likely going to have to restart because my counter is high due to poor decisions on my part, but I'm really digging the game so far.
If the other BoF games feature gameplay as interesting as this one I'll check them out.

What did /vr/ think about the real BoF6?

You must be shitposting. The only part of this game I can see someone being bored by is the regular encounters since it is repetitive at points. My experience was mostly nuking enemies with Nina.
However, aside from the battle system being a little more dynamic than is typical, the structure of the game is so atypical that it feels more like one extended action sequence from start to finish. This momentum is carried along by its plot and it meshes together really nice in some god tier boss battles.
So if you can't handle a couple dozen repetitive encounters for example, in that ice area, you're really missing out. It's very quick compared to most of its peers. They even have those optional pinata enemies you can kill for bonuses to mix it up.
