Why do people hate this game so much?

Because the ultra high highs of silent hill 1-3 were fresh in everyone's minds and a new game that felt like reskin of some other horror game which included busy work like breakable weapons and back tracking through levels and unkillable enemies that chase you through entire maps and an escort quest that takes up half the game was a major step down. In retrospect The Room is a fine game on its own merits but contemporarily it was held up against the absolute peak of not just SH but horror games in general and it did not rise to the lofty standards gamers were blessed to enjoy pre-2006.

Reddit Hill 2 is the worst Team Silent game and it was considred sloppy slop upon release but as time passed pseuds and posers elevated it into the overrated status it's known for today

Turns out fans dislike the horror adventures of an actual average Joe (Not a novelist, not a married man with an inheritance of a successful apartment complex or literally the avatar of God) and instead wanted an anemic japanese schoolgirl with a demon arm.

But that's the best part, no horror game where you have the advantage over the enemies can be considered "scary" if you can just deal with them and move on. SH4 had its problems but in terms of scare factor it was a cut above what came before.

Because seems like they ran out of time/budget and the second half of the game is just repeating the same levels again with minor differences all while you have to scort an NPC. A shame, since I liked the first part of the game a lot.

>the absolute peak of horror games in general
Absolute delulu cope. Silent Hill 1 was kind of a joke, Silent Hill 3 was laughably poorly written, and Silent Hill 2 was above average, but everyone overrates it because of the sappy letter at the end.

I own this game on PS2. I even bought a guide book. But I'm too scared to play it. Horror games scare me a lot and I don't know how to mentally prepare for playing this one. I never played a SH game.
The last horror game I played was Haunting Ground. It wasn't that scary, but I did find it a bit stressful to play. Really nice graphics though and I liked the fact that you play a pretty girl being chased by creepy guys.

Heather is an average-cute tomboy with a plain figure (small boobs and butt, fairly narrow hips), meaning her appearance is attractive but still seems attainable enough to the average transwoman (or transcurious) mind as to trigger thoughts of "wow she looks just like me!"

But there are a few elements which SH2 obviously took inspiration from, such as the main character being unable to accept his wife's death, while running into a doppelganger with a suspiciously similar name, and is torn between his loyalty to his wife and her doppelganger. As >>12418351 said Silent Hill in general took inspiration from a variety of sources, some more obvious than others.

No retard. Notice how zero troons identify with Bloodrayne and Bayonetta. Heather looks very achievable to them.

It's got some great ideas and moments, and some of Yamaoka's best OST work but
>characters nowhere near as good as Heather and the SH2 cast
>sound effects that were obviously stock even in 2004 -- game starts out with a ridiculous one off the rip
>pasta'd 2nd half
Unironically the perfect candidate for a remake.

It doesn't become impossible, you can beat it all the same. All that happens is that she dies and you might get the one cool ending (21 sacraments.)

Tbf the Eileen mechanics are kinda schizophrenic in how they work. Doesn't help that there's a lot of misinfo regarding sh4(been told by multiple people that healing Eileen with the candles is a thing). Here's a video that goes in depth on how she works if any of you guys are interested.

It just sucks. I don't know what to say. The game isn't fun and the atmosphere is cool at first but isnt enough to hold up a boring shitty game with terrible gameplay and combat
but I tend to hate most survival horror games of this generation.

Based. I love all four games but SH4 felt specially brutal and dark, and kept me guessing about Walter's psyche. The scene prior to the appearance of >>12418812 probably disturbed the most out of all four games. It looked like something necrophilic was going on.
>b-but le burp!
It actually worked for me. I was already disturbed with the cutscene, the soundtrack was only an eerie heartbeat, and I went back into the room just to look for items, then the nurse appeared from a blindspot and I felt utterly disgusted by its design, and THEN that fucking burp out of nowhere was the cherry on top of a what in the blue fuck cake.
>>
>>
>>
>>12420789
It's not just the burp, the game uses all sorts of ridiculously overused Halloween-ass samples.
In the first part of the game:
>male_scream.wav as soon as you get out of bed
>the splat when the ghost comes out of the wall
>the licker dog monsters and the big cat growls they make
You've probably heard these countless times in countless other places.

People thinking Homecoming and Shattered Memories are superior games to Origins is why this is a dead franchise. We could have continued getting slightly below average Silent Hill games like Origins, but no, some people liked the RE4 clone and Run Like Hell clone, so we got fucking Downpour.
>>
>>12416570
It plays like shit
Buggy as hell
The Level design is bland and shit
The ghost mechanic is annoying more than anything else
All the issues of the older games seems to come out 5x worse in this one
I like it for the concept and atmosphere but its clearly the weakest of the series
I still would have liked to have seen a 5
maybe something that ended the Team Silent series in a more conclusive way and then Konami could rape the branding to death with shitty American sequels, then shitty Chinese sequels, and other assorted crap.
