is thinkpad P14s and 5650u vega 7 enough to run and emulate games from 1998-2010?

>It will lag on PS2
No it won't.
Unless you want 2x resolution while playing GT 4

Hello anons, I am new to retro gaming and emulation. Honestly I am new to vidya in general. I have OpenEmu on Mac.
Can you please recommend me some retro games that are easy and fun? Personally I really gothic, dark and medieval settings. But I just want to play for fun.

thief games are the thing you're searching for

Integrated graphics have improved a lot, I bought a thinkpad recently with Ryzen 350 processor and the integrated graphics are more powerful than the full size GPU I had in my first gaming PC 8 years ago
It can play Resident Evil 7 on high graphics at 60fps, which is a pretty demanding game even for my current PC

what is vimm?
can't you just buy a windows laptop for cheap
>>12417850
probably cost a ton, right

It was like £1200 on sale which I think isn't too bad for a T series thinkpad. You could probably get the same processor in a non-T or consumer level laptop for under £1000
I was looking at the Yoga line before and they had a model with the same processor and OLED screen for £900

This is only 400 and has an i7. Figured this would be enough to run ps2 but maybe I’m totally wrong?

get a used m2 MacBook Air with 8gb ram. or maybe M1 with 16gb but I doubt its cheaper. you can run everything retro flawlessly and with fast forward and resolution at retina (2k) barely making a dent into the CPU. pcsx2 works amazingly as does Dolphin. Ares for n64 works great. Everything earlier than that already would work on an original Samsung Galaxy phone from 2010.
porting kit works great for stuff like age of empires 2 (I use the steam HD edition, flawless, even though steam is gay)
I bought my Mac for like 850 shipped brand new a couple weeks before christmas 2023. I imagine they're quite a bit cheaper now on swappa
I bought a lexar 1tb HDD this past November for like $75 or something so even the base SDD Mac will be fine generally. Also not retro but this Mac played RE4 Remake without any issues on medium settings. There were some crashes but it was related to the initial port since it was a brand new port right around Xmas 2023.
I was trying to run a PS3 game but I couldn't figure out how to fake having a blu ray drive so I cant comment on that, which is also not retro.

open emu is pretty good for most things but some systems need specialized stuff. my personal Mac recommendations (apple silicon)
ps2: pcsx2
psx: duckstation
n64: Ares
GCN: dolphin
GBC/GBA: mGBA
open emu is especially good for MAME though I found. tends to work right of the box including for NEO GEO roms. But everything from 1981 Qix to Shock Troopers 2 to NHL Open Ice to Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 work pretty well on open emu's MAME core

*also that said, standalone SNES emulators are a nightmare on apple silicon for some reason so open emu seems to be the best.
one thing to keep in mind is open emu doesnt support retro cheevo's. I don't really care that much but some games it's fun to replay and earn the cheevo's

mobile intel runs hotter than mobile amd on average

different emulator on both platforms
Why don't you google the cpu and integrated graphics and see what games it can play? Your P14s Gen 2 (they use generations now) should be find for most shit, but you might want an actual dedicated gpu model of the P series if you want to make sure PS3 and Xbox are good. Just know that the steam deck's RDNA2 beats the shit out of Vega as far as igpu goes, so you are basically buying a worse steamdeck if your main goal is to play vidya on it.

Like we talking to where it would effect the product in the long term? Or is it dependent on what you’re doing because I’m not planning on anything past ps2 Xbox and such.
I guess it’s not a permanent solution and just a temporary one. Might just got for the i5 actually

>Tiger Lake
Good enough to run PS2, but Alder Lake is better. It's cheaper too.

Lower clock speed, but the CPU has more cores and better IPC. PCSX2 likes using more than 4 physical cores for some games.

Okay but OP's CPU launched fifteen (15) years later, sports 6 cores with 12 threads instead of 2 cores with no multithreading, has 16 MiB of L3 cache instead of 0 MiB, and achieves significantly higher clock speeds.
