I think somwth that really makes the sixth gen less retro than any other gen is the dead of lesser consoles, no 3D0, no Turbograf, no CD-I, No Jaguar, only one handheld system.
It's like everyone esle that's not the big three: Nintendo, Sony and Sega just give up.

Or maybe it's less retro because it's more recent. Some people here are really stupid.

Also to the displeasure of SEGAfags like me, the Turbografx sold more than both the Saturn and the Dreamcast, so the premise of your thread already contradicts itself.

Wonderswan color - 1999
NGPC - 1999
GBA - 2001
N-Gage 2003

That's 4 hand helds.

You also left out Xbox.

Neo geo was still getting games, last one was samsho 4 special in 2004.

PS1 also got games with the last non-shovelware being Black/Matrix 00 in 2004

And also both the 6th gen alternative handhelds (N-Gage & Wonderswan) and even some fucking educational handheld called Leapster sold more than the CD-I, Jaguar and 3DO.

Dremcast is not 6th gen

This. It was so advanced it was basically 7th gen. Also this thread is fucking retard.

To me it's the overall world atmosphere starting after 9/11, and how the dominating genres changed, platformers stopped being popular in favor of urban sims. The fun and wonder was over.

Nope.
Worst take possible.
Your mindset is the number one reason this board has gone to trash
>but what about--
Nope. Nothing else comes close and you are part of the problem.

You had some weird stuff like Nuon, Hyperscan and GameWave, though they may bleed over into 5th or 7th gen depending on your 'tism. Handhelds had N-Gage, GP32, Zodiac and something else that escapes my memory. I would say it was just harder to get a piece of the pie by then and even Sega had to bail out.

They existed, it's just that they were even less relevant and surprisingly DVD player related. The world's first gaming DVD player released in 2000 as the VM Labs Nuon (not to be confused with the worlds first DVD playing game console). The 3-Plus DVD Kids filled the edutainment DVD player role and both of these are still within the /vr/ cut-off. The ZAPiT Game Wave Family Entertainment System is on the cusp of 7th gen (and past the cut-off anyway) and fills the christian gaming DVD player role so longed for by American audiences. The XaviXport/Domyos is a cheap pre-wii waggler.

Plenty of handhelds in the Wonderswan (color), Cybiko (PDA crossbreed), GBA, GP32 (largely emulation), Pokémon Mini, Leapster (edutainment), N-Gage, Zodiac (Palmtop crossbreed) and GameKing (48x32 res chink theftkino). The latter can even be considered 7th gen if you stick to console genshit.

There's also the toddler and baby consoles that are in between those gens with the Advanced Pico Beena and V.Smile line.
