What the fuck were they thinking?

That's because MvC2 is actually Vampire 4
>>
>lets release a quick cash grab on the new arcade hardware. Make the backgrounds 3d they will eat that slop up
>>
>>12419992
Would that OST even fit Vampire 4
>>
>>12420005
That still doesn't explain the fucking jazz

Yeah

The jazz is based. It gives the game its own identity instead of a remix of Ryu’s theme number 1000
>>
>>12419980
MvC 2 is the most disappointing sequel of all time
>>
>>12420078
No one is saying this

>"We're about to lose the Marvel license. Just do whatever you want so long as you get this game out on time."
Most likely this.
>>
>>12419980
You expected them to make 200 unique character stages?
>>
>>12420005
The 3D backgrounds are great. "slop"-posters simply deserve the rope.
>>
>>12420091
I just did, what did you mean by this?
>>
>>12419980
They didn't have the time to make that many themes and the staff have said they wanted the game to aesthetically be a departure from the last five-ish Marvel fighters they had made. As someone who laments the loss of character themes/endings and stages based on game/comic locations, in a vacuum the work they did was good (though the complete lack of any NPCs in the stages was probably also due to the short timeframe, they're oddly barren).

I think the biggest missed opportunity was not running with Ruby Heart as the new protagonist of Capcom crossovers going forward. Her ship gives her an easy way to pull characters together. She should've been in CvS2, SvC, TvC, Marvel 3, etc.

NTA but I'm also saying it.
>Remember loving MvC1 on the PSX
>See MvC2 for sale but don't have a PS2
>Other fighting games are all 3D at this point, I imagine a 3D MvC that's like the first game but better
>Finally get a PS2 and buy it
>Somehow the sprites look worse, the soundtrack sounds nothing like the first game, the 3D backgrounds are generic and not references to Marvel and Capcom
>It was missing a bunch of characters I liked from the first game like Mega Man (I didn't know they were there but you have to unlock them, somehow people never mention you have to unlock characters when talking about this game)
>The menus look so bad that with everything else I mentioned I thought I bought a bootleg game by mistake
>Decide to beat arcade mode anyway
>Final boss is a literal who and there's no ending
>shelve the game and never play it again
Decades later and I'm still mad
>>
>>12420232
I forgot to mention, the character select theme being a short loop with
>I wanna take you for a ride! I wanna take you for a ride! I wanna take you for a ride!
made me think at first that the audio got stuck or the CD was scratched, just added to the feeling that I was playing a bootleg

Imagine being so insecure you need to shit on the best fighting game of all time.

That they wanted to make a good game.

Ill never get tired of nignogs getting filtered by some of the greatest big band jazz tracks in vidya history. To the point where they burn an ISO to replace the music with nigger music like 50 cent and shit

Whoever the drummer and bassist were are absolute fucking masters

best fighting game of all time

I used to work at a friend's bar and I would play mvc2 ost as background music

>>Stages themselves are also random places that have nothing to do with Marvel or Capcom
That was always a problem for me desu
I always felt like they were kinda languishing on the Marvel IP at that point and the series was kept going to reuse assets
>>
>>12420078
That would be Jet Set Radio Future though
>>
>>12420142
I expect the stages in Marvel vs Capcom to be about Marvel or Capcom. Like you couldn't make "Factory" into "Sentinel Factory" or put Scissor Man in the "Clock Tower" stage to make it Capcom's Clock Tower instead of a generic one
>>
>>12420749
3 was the only one that had anything to do with capcom, and it didn't even come out until years after MvC2 you fucking bot.
>>
>>12420760
>3 was the only one that had anything to do with capcom
what the fuck are you talking about?
>>
>>12420760
>>12420760
By the time the PS2 and Xbox ports were out, Clock Tower 3 was well into production if not already done. It could have been done. They could have added anything to those sates from the Naomi releases to make them not dead empty
>>
>>12420767
Clock Tower wasn't even remotely related to capcom until they bought it after Human shuttered. Why the fuck would they make a clock tower themed stage for a game they hadn't even finished negotiations on making, let alone that being a capcom specific stage?
>>
>>12420772
oh, you're saying Clock Tower 3, not MvC3, I get it
>>
>>12420770
It was a joint product with sunsoft, no fucking way they would do all of that for a home port, and its a good thing since 3 was the worst game in the series.

I think this is also apparent in the crossovers with SNK. You see more effort when SNK is the one taking the reins
Capcom is a lazy lover.

To be fair, CcS2 hit the gameplay formula out of the park, and thats coming from an SvC enjoyer. People were even willing to play the shitty gamecube port because it did the best job of catering to both series sensibilities, even amongst the drama about EO in different versions. SvC is super underappreciated though.

"Let's make the greatest gameplay tagfighters have ever seen"

a shame that the balance was so poor and everything that tried to succeed it learned all of the wrong lessons
