Is it retro yet? I always got filtered by this game because I have no clue what i'm even meant to be doing, still pretty fun though.

the original stalker games are rpgs, so you start off weak as fuck and get stronger as you play the game
what are you having trouble with?

>the original stalker games are rpgs
This is the most retarded post I have ever seen on /vr/ in my entire life. And it's not even true that you start out weak, you get an incredibly powerful 1 shot everything pistol handed to you immediately then an incredibly powerful 1 shot everything from 50 yards away shotgun literally 5 minutes later.
Clearly the people interested in stalker are too young to be on /vr/, given both the responses in this thread and the OP itself being dreadful.

stalker as an rpg is some meme that's spread in the last few years. even "progression" doesn't make an rpg, most games have progression. rpg has been diluted by marketing teams until younger people don't know what one is at all.
>>
>>12420561
That's not some new phenomenon. People in the 90s considered jarpigs like FF7 to be RPGs, when they were really just proto-moviegames with the same depth of "RPG" systems as a modern Assassin's Creed game.

it doesn't have realistic bullet physics, stop judging games off shitty mods
>>
>>12420604
it's not a hitscan game, it has realistic bullet physics. it's not an rpg where player skill matters, you point and shoot. it's just that some guns have balancing issues to contend with, this is separate from the physics and doesn't make it an rpg, it makes it simulationist. you haven't even made a cohesive argument why you consider it an rpg. afraid?

read the manual. follow instructions in the game, play through the "tutorial" part. if that is still too hard. download a mod and edit it to make it easier with more starting money and ammo for your rifle.

Excellent game, one of my favourites. It's one of those games you have to give it a few hours to get into it, the start is pretty slow and a bit dull but it does get better, especially once you start exploring the underground labs.
One tip is that you want to get heaps of medkits and anti radiation meds and a sniper rifle with as much ammo as you can find for it before travelling to the chernobyl area at the end of the game, because once you go there you can't go back to the main area of the game and the guys you fight are quite a bit harder so the sniper makes it a lot easier. Make full saves occasionally too instead of just quicksaves so you can travel back to an earlier point in the game if you need to. Also you can ignore buying the exosuit, it's really expensive and weighs a lot and you don't really need it.
The ZRP mod is good too, it adds fast travel so you don't have to walk so much.

>fast travel
>miss all the cool a-life shit at level transitions
Why would anyone want to use this? The maps aren't that big in SOC. Use stamina artifacts. Learn the game, or at least spam energy drinks
>>12421025
>How scary is this game?
There's a few spooky parts but it's not a hallway of jumpscares or anything. There's a lot more action setpieces. Most of the time you're attacking dogs or regular dudes with guns.
>>
>>
>>12421025
Less scary than your average horror game, more scary than your average shooter. It's somewhere inbetween, it doesn't constantly spam you with jumpscares and shit, but the parts that are meant to be spooky really nail the scary vibe.
>>
>>12421027
>Why would anyone want to use this?
all the walking can get annoying after a bit. Especially on subsequent playthroughs. Also you can't fast travel across the map, only to level transitions in the same area you're currently in

Just played and beat Stalker myself.
I used to be like the OP and >>12420157 and I'll be honest, what got me to finally enjoy it was playing on normal until I got a rifle with a scope, then switching it to master.
Retroactively, I'd probably play the whole thing on master difficulty and spend the first bit of it collecting various things to sell and engaging more with the bartering mechanic, but if that doesn't sound fun I think if somebody played it the way I did, just on the normal difficulty until you get some mid tier weapons, they'll have a lot more fun if they find themselves getting filtered every time they try and attempt it.
The other aspect is that much like a Bethesda game, your main waypoint is more of a suggestion to your exploration and emergent gameplay that just happens. You gotta kinda just get lost in the world and learn the gunplay, but once you do it's probably one of the the more immersive experiences you'll have.

Not a single word of this post is even remotely correct and it's horrifying that zoomers walked around collecting stacks of medkits to bruteforce the game. I don't think I can ever discuss stalker again reading this thread, clearly this is poison. What a shame.
>>
>>12421486
Wut? I barely had medkits for 3/4ths of the game and only kept them on me for injured NPCs. I also played everything after the initial military vs stalker fight the recommended way.
Are you schizo posting?

Bruh it's literally just a shitty slavjank version of RE with an open world instead of actual level design. Like how hard is webm related, it ain't that deep dude. Like I see people openly posting about mandalore and other slop tuber essayists now here, like openly linking these dudes, and I just KNOW where you fake clueless retards came from. Get the fuck off 4chan dude. You people suck.

How do you think I know how the game works, retard? If it attracts retards huffing their own farts and comparing it to skyrim I'll throw it straight in the trash. Im fully prepared to move on. Get the fuck out of here.

You are a janny and I'm certain you're frantically paging a mod now. Literal weeks of spamming the board with shitty bait rpg threads with nothing done and I'm sure the mod will conveniently come in to take action now. This isn't discussion. There is no discussion in these threads. It's all spreading disinformation and poisoning the website.

I always hope people like you are trolling. The levels of unpleasant autism people somehow have managed to delve into now of days would make the most staunch /b/fag around 2010 blush. I really can't help but wonder if the government has perfected their whole "ai attack on 4chan" thing and just unleashed the worst kind of artificial posters to just dry up and form of conversation with their weird shitposting and overly aggressive nature.

>you just like the exact same games
Codex is a board made by a NMA poster to circle jerk over black isle and bioware games, with a staff that basically turned the site into an outrage mill because this generates royal paypigs that think they're "fighting the good fight". As you can see, there are no black isle or bioware games, I never liked those games and have always thought they are terrible. Obviously Codex is not a place for me. Additionally, I've found that I'm happier and have more people to discuss games with when I play the games I am playing *now*. This was a big realization for me, that I can revisit games I was really impressed with and thought we're impossible when I was a teen, and actually beat them now with the experience i have. Additionally, I played a lot of fighting games over the last few years, and played with 4chan a lot, and did not include them because I had a lot of stalkers at the time. I dunno if you've ever been to /fgg/, but it's bad!

Yeah, I think if you go into it with the right mentality on Master you'll have a much better time. Current games tend to dump you right into the action, where as I think with Stalker it's a good idea to explore a bit, find junk, sell it, and build up a bit of an arsenal before you jump in. By the time you get to the mid game you won't have to be scavenger nearly as much (or really, at all), but that early game can turn people off as you are just thrown into the world and your instincts tell you to just keep following the yellow.
Really, I feel bad for people that get filtered as I was one of them and almost missed out on a really fun game because of it.
>>
>>
>>
>>12421683
I think what they mean is that you can miss a bunch of stuff if you don't explore around. Like the Army Warehouses and missions you find there, you can walk past it and never enter the army base and never do any of the missions. Same with the faction stuff, you can miss meeting the Duty faction in the Bar area if you don't explore and miss all the missions they give you. There is backtracking though, like people will ask for artifacts you don't find till later in the game so you have to backtrack if you want to do those missions etc.

Oh, so that's this board's local schizo I heard about. What a sad life he must have.
>>
>>12422386
He's right though, there is better stuff to play. You have to keep the bar high or communities will be flooded with people playing the dumbest crap they can find and there will be little room for anything else. Like just look at /v/. If a game is attracting retards its time to put it to rest and move on.

Same thing happened to me when I tried checking it out many, many years ago. The thing is, though, that back in those days, I’d make 0 (ZERO) attempt to read anything about a game I wasn’t sure how to play. So anything that seemed too complicated or that didn’t hold my hand until I understood the gameplay loop would be deemed “too confusing” and I’d just drop it.
Same thing happened when I tried to play The Void all those years ago. Funnily enough, I decided to check it out again recently to see what I was so confused about way back when but ended up falling in love with it and playing it for like 30 hours. So yeah— reading manuals and paying attention to in-game dialogue will likely solve your problem, OP.

Look at the catalog, half of it is dogshit threads like this and in a month it'll be 100% threads like this and there will be nowhere to discuss the games that actually deserve discussion.

Why do you think every thread should be games that you personally like? That's retarded and extremely childish. Just ignore it if you don't like it, make thread about games you do like instead of just hoping other people will make them and them complaining when they don't. Some people like Stalker and doesn't break the rules.

It's not perfect, but WAY better than the dumpsterfire it was at release. They got rid of almost all game-breaking bugs, stealth mechanics and similar stuff are actually working now, and the performance is stable on most machines. Last time I played it, the only two things that really bothered me was A-life still being shit and the lack of side quests during the second half of the game.
It's worth playing, but don't expect it to be like the old titles.
