I want something compact for my bedroom setup. Will be hooking up SFC, PS1, PS2 to it. This will be for personal use, I already have a 34" with S-Video that I use for Melee with buddies. I guess my main concern is, are those cables that convert SNES/PS1 RGB to Component any good, or should I get the PVM for direct BNC. Also, which is more likely make it to the end of my lifetime (with basic maintenance). Money isn't a concern although obviously I'd rather save hundreds of difference is minimal.

You're done. Use that. Going down to a smaller size will always feel like a cuck move even if the image is ever so slightly better.
Maximize the quality you can get from that S-video port.

If you insist on getting another CRT the overall condition of the unit matters far more than Component vs RGB. Don't pay the Sony PVM tax and get something with a Shadow Mask from one of the other big names like JVC or Toshiba. Retro games will actually look better on those.

Conversion between RGB and component is cheap and easy. Any competently designed converter should do it without adding any visible noise.

I mean those component cables for consoles that only support RGB, not a dedicated converter.

It's going to my brother's place soon. I'm moving into a tiny apartment. Need something I can play from a metre or less away. I probably will take you up on your advice and look into alternate brands.

Take it with you. A 34" CRT television is only moderately bigger than 27" CRT television. Your apartment won't be so small you can't find a place for it.
You'll regret not taking it if you don't.

Look into RGB2Comp
Much easier than buying craploads of converter cables
