Post bullshit that you only heard in your circles back in the day. I don't wanna hear no mew under the truck or triforces, I mean bullshit that only made the rounds in your neigbhorhood, school, etc. Whether you believed it yourself or knew it was bullshit even back then, doesn't matter. I'll start with a few off the top of my head
>"Code Veronica" is a new technology that makes game graphics look ultra realistic
>"The Buffoon" in Mortal Kombat (no idea who he is, but he "killed Shao Kahn")
>Nintendo's new console after the GameCube is called E3
>Half-Life is so realistic you can destroy anything, even the walls, piece by piece; No computer can run it yet

You know the whole "holding down + B increases your rate of a pokeball working" thing? Our school's version of that was that you had to enter a half-circle on the top part of the D-Pad while the ball was wiggling. The idea was that you were mimicking pressing down on the top of the ball to keep the monster inside.
The entire gesture had to be done exactly at the right time during the wiggling animation to work. Whenever we saw someone try it and it failed, we justified it by saying they'd either done it too early or too late.

I was friends with a classic autistic Nintendo kid in elementary school. Not like a dork but someone with a real problem. I lied to him about secret unlockable characters in Double Dash called Starry and Moony and he called me a liar until high school about it. I would run into him in town here and there. Tried to get him into emulation but he flatly told me "I wouldn't do that." He died in a car accident on his way to work a year ago. RIP. We saw Agent Cody Banks in theaters together.

Nudalities and Sexualities (Kitana squirts you with milk from her boobs, Johnny Cage bites off his opponent's ear) in MK II
In second grade a kid claimed that in the ending of Punch Out, there was a cutscene where Mac is doing his running cutscene but Mike Tyson drives up and challenges you to a street fight and the final match is in the middle of the road. I feel like this kid might have just seen Rocky V or something.

Some kid down the street told me to get Chimecho in gen 3 you had to save and reset a few times and then run in front of a gravestone and it'd spawn. The funny thing is despite being obvious bullshit, i lucked out.

>the dreamcast uses pc technology so it can run pc games!
possibly because of the windows ce thing
wouldn't be surprised if this was actually reported by some games magazines at the time

I heard most of these rumors from CS nerds. I'd hang out with them--most of the time their stuff was legit, but they'd mix wild theories in with real facts and pass it all off as proven.
>You can play Sega CD games on a Dreamcast using an official swap disc that was released exclusively in Japan.
They told me about Bleem, and I called bullshit until this one guy showed Tekken 3 running on Dreamcast at a LAN party. That same day he mentioned some official disc for Sega CD backward compatibility on Dreamcast.
>The Nintendo GameCube can boot Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, which is why it doesn’t have a hard drive so people wouldn’t exploit it, since an NGC is cheaper than a Mac.
One of us was a huge Apple fanboy. During one of our "console war" arguments, he went off about how the NGC crushed because of its PowerPC chip. Said Nintendo used iMac G3s as dev kits--showed us a magazine article claiming they developed GameCube games on Macs. Then he claimed the NGC skipped an HDD bay because its PPC was Mac OS compatible and could've booted Leopard, and Nintendo wanted to stay tight with Apple instead of matching Xbox's HDD or PS2's add-on drive.
>Tengen ported Sonic to the SNES, but the cartridge is incredibly rare.
The Sonic on SNES by Tengen came from a church buddy. He had Shinobi and After Burner on NES, swore they ported Sonic to SNES but it was ultra-rare since Sega never approved it but Tengen just did it anyway.
>My uncle uses an Xbox as his office PC. He works at a Microsoft subsidiary, and they are testing Windows X-XP, which is like XP but designed exclusively for Xbox.
The Xbox-as-office-PC thing felt kinda real. We met our buddy's uncle--he was an engineer (can't remember where), super chill, let us use his garage for LANs, and played StarCraft and Diablo II with us. We never asked him straight about the Windows XP fork for Xbox 'cause our friend said it was NDA-locked and could get him in trouble if it leaked.

We were like 12 years old bro. I just remember him reading cheats off a website and laughing then turning away. When I asked him whats so funny he said you can fuck Roman. I kept asking him to show me but he said "im not doing that bro".

There was that kid in my neighborhood who would constantly tell all kinds of ridiculous lies, like
>I unlocked weapons and a driveable tank in Driver 2, sorry you can't see it because I accidentally deleted that save
>My brother has a PS2 that also plays PC games. Wanna see it? Oh jeez sorry, he sold it just yesterday!
>You can walk around your city in first-person view in SimCity 2000, but I won't tell you how
>I can do a kickflip, but I just don't want to right now
and similar stuff.
So naturally, when he told me that an unchipped PS1 can play burned discs if you just switch CDs in the exact right moment, I didn't believe him. Especially after he didn't manage to do it when he wanted to show it to me.
Just a few years ago when the chip of my old PS1 died and I looked that trick up, I realized that this is actually true. Kinda funny that I thought for about 20 years that this was just another one of this dude's bullshit stories.
Does anyone else have similar stories where you thought something is bullshit, but realized years afterwards that it's actually true?
