I've rarely emulated arcade titles before, and for one main reason, when I emulate a retro console title, I play by its rules and it works, because my PC isn't too different from the console setup of before... for an arcade though, we used to have cabinets that worked based on taking our quarters, so when I emulate, and lose, it just asks me to insert another one, I hit a button and it does, and then I play a bit more, until I eventually finish it, the stakes are over in a way.
What do I do? Do I have to 1CC everything? That seems like the opposite end of the spectrum and I can see myself disliking that a lot too, but having infiinite quarters also takes away from the fun...

You don't have to quit every time you're sent to the continue screen, but you should work your way towards a 1CC by learning the game's mechanics and improving your skills. Once you can do a 1CC on "stock" settings, challenge yourself further by going for high score runs, or raising the difficulty. Getting your first 1CC on a game you've spent a lot of time learning can be an exhilarating experience.

place a stack of quarters beside your computer, each of one a simulation of the actual credit. when the game asks you to insert a quarter, you take one from the top of the pile, and you slide it into your asshole. once the stack is finished, you stop playing.
