Hello /VR/ I wanted to share my little day of retro game experience.
It all started last week with my old Xbox classic that I fixed, the thermal paste was dry so I replaced and the DVD tray didn't opened so changed the rubber band inside, now it works but I had only one game in my library the rest I sold it over the years or thrown out by my mother since I kept the Xbox in the basement for 16 years.
First I went to a retro shop and asked if they had a copy of Halo one or 2 didn't had anything, other games didn't click for me at the moment.
I went to an online market where you can pick and buy, I found a guy who sold a copy of Halo CE for 10€, I played halo when I was a kid on PC, I got the Xbox in the past to play Halo 2.
After coming back home I put the game in and wow I felt a kid again, maybe it's all these years I played on emulator and PC and never came back to console even modern one for a lot and I would say I don't know why playing on console after so long. It gave me nostalgia but the good kind the kind I felt happy going home after school and play on my Xbox before or after homework, the feeling of reding the manual first before playing the game, I liked how the plot was only 2 little pages. The game had some little fps drops but when I saw them I felt immediately at home I don't know but when I saw that drop I felt like "this is how was intended to play".
Going for stores then picking up the game reading the manual and ply the game I really enjoyed it and loved it.
I'm a lurker of /VR/ sometimes I write on threads, I play vr games on my phone or my old psp or PC, but since the start of the year I started to do retro like I did in the past and I'm restarting to enjoy games like when I was a kid.
Had similar experience /VR/

Cozy, I got xbox from my grandma but living in 3rd world shithole meant games were all pirated and xbox was softmodded, so no manuals, and sometimes the translations would render the games bricked.
But it was fun. I liked the fact that some games would force you to find a friend to play with in order to unlock everything so I would go outside and socialise to get someone to play with. Other were outright easier.
That same xbox 1.6 lasted all the way till 2026 when it wouldn't output HD anymore so I had to get my backup 1.0 one out and TSOP it.

WTF with all those cables?
Anyway, I understand, there is a feeling on playing directly on the TV without any clutter of the PC and setting up the OS or some bullshit like that.
I had a similar story, my then GF told me that she had a Xbox when she was a kid, and played Blinx, "showless", "voodo" and amped.
I found an cheap xbox that was halfway modded and I macgyver it with another Xbox I had at my parents house and had now.2 fully modded xboxes. Since I had 4 controllers, I gave her two, the xbox and the cables.
When I gift that to her she was like... ehmmm sure, thanks for the gift. (like pretending to be more normie that she actually is, we only had met for 1 year at this moment)
Then we put the game on the TV and was kinda of fun but told me that there is something off. Luckily, her parents still had some big ass CRT so we hooked the xbox there and played a lot of Blinx. Voodo vince and "showless" that is actually Grabbed by the Ghoulies sucked but Blinx was fun.
Anyways, 9 years later she begs me to play some retro games. Currently, we play Panel de Pon through all the week. Even in the fucking starbucks.

>WTF with all those cables?
Too long to explain, but to put it short, next to the tv there is my Retro Pc Rig and the "shortest" Lan cable I have is a 10m Lan cable, so all the wires are just one (plus Xbox and TV). It's just temporary, like the mess around the tv is half mess of fixing the Xbox half is just regular stuff that look like a mess but in reality are just normal objects.
Anyway... Nice story, something similar is happening to my GF, she's kinda normie she play games but only selected she really love the borderland saga but likes to try even my games at every retro convention we play at the arcade.

Maybe i'll hardmod my xbox since I know how to solder and saw online how it works, maybe i'll try.
For me the problem was finding the game with traslation, I'm Italian and the Italian xbox release was kinda fucked even back in the day but now in modern times if you inform yourself is not a problem, but most of Xbox games in italy came in PAL and ITALIAN format, but PAL doesn't mean it had automatically Italian inside so some games had the English preselect or Spanish and you had to be sure that you were buying the italian game usually you noticed by the flags on the back or if the game was written in Italian, because if it was in english it was a PAL copy.
Now I don't have this problem as ESL.

Congratulations OP, you reached the high point of playing old games. I always tell people how there's a secret in using the real hardware, away from a computer desk and with a controller in your hand and you captured it all. Every time you press that eject button and put in a disc you'll be able to play and not put it down just like you used to as a kid.
It's real time travel. Have fun.

That "crappy PC" still works and play games like a champ. Even the Xbox library still has some hits that are exclusive to it and it's the only way to play the original Halo 1 and 2 without the anniversary patch (like elites can overcharge their rifles something missing in the anniversary)

Thinking about the hard mod instead, or maybe just soft mod is okay since I like to burn CDs, like you can see in the image I still have 47 of them and 10 DVD DL and some RW.
