And I still had a question. Some anons were saying that it has stuff no one else has but i don’t even know wtf this even is: >>12421121 #
Teknoparrot is the most up to date on myrient as well, the eggman repo also seems to only be on there.
wtf is an eggman repo or a temperate. Seriously. And why is it so rare or not found on any other rom site. Anyway, continue discussion or not I was just curious what that even was.

even if the site is closing it's good to at least have the lists of stuff that was on there so i know what's missing in other sets. idk what it has that doesn't exist anywhere else either but it seems they had the most up to date sets of most everything. hopefully something else crops up.

are you literally too dense to go on google and look it up? in the other thread that got archived someone was talking about how big the ibm pc compatible set is and someone asked "what is that?". i was over here like "wtf". was that also you?

Other than ROMhax and fan translations, what made that site so special? I just use those sketchy sites at the top of Google that you have to do things like try a download link 2-3 times before it shows the right file instead of an exe. Sometimes they'll drive by download on you but just stop any download you didn't ask for. Checksums check out, only the game file in the zip? Good to go.

Great, now Myrient will be completely unusable because every news site is talking about it

Not in my opinion.
The first phrasing has better meter and flows better. Yours has a harsh shift between "been" and "unable."

i don't understand this mentality of now furiously scrambling for something you seemingly could live well without a mere 3 days ago. if having a huge rom collection is so important to you then why didn't you get on it sooner?

>muh RAM prices
This is bullshit, they don't need a current-gen server using DDR5 or DDR4 RAM, there's plenty of older servers out there using DDR3 which is still dirt cheap. I know because I have one at home I just bought RAM for. 32GBs of DDR3 for $25. Runs current and up-to-date Linux just fine. Given they are just a file-serving website, they don't need high-end hardware anyways.
What's the real reason they are shutting down?

If Myrient didn't want zoomers to share their site, they shouldn't have advertised it on Reddit themselves:

90% of that is bloat, repeats, and BluRay empty space games.
~I have every 2004 home console and older
~All handheld consoles before switch
~Also a full set for Wii.
Pretty much just avoided BluRay consoles and xbox 360. and switch.
This all fit within 15tb. Because I downloaded "1 game 1 rom" type files, and sets where they didn't fuck around and give alternative or edited files. Like why do I need Sonic 2 in 87 variations?? All this from elsewhere and better than myrient lmao.

For preservation and autists like me who like to see what changes between versions, like Resident Evil and its dualshock version
But I agree, a normal person wont ever need 10000 variations of the same game, not even complete console archives, just get what you like and want to play

Even the shadiest sites often have dozens of versions of a game. Picrel is just languages but other games have revisions and laguage versions. I even see weird romhacks and homebrews, particularly on one site that isn't picrel.
I don't think we're missing anything by having to, heaven forbid, use sites with pop-ups and scam link ads.
You shoulda seen watching streaming anime in pixelated 144p around '05, you'd get popups every single time you clicked anywhere on the page, but it's easy to just look at where the links go and not run or download anything. Never got a virus, and I have a sec+; I'd notice more-easily than most.

I guess that site has romhacks, homebrews, and fan translations too. They're out there, on many sites. I'm sure we all know torrenting exists as well.
I don't see why this one site is such a big deal.
>>
>>
>>12422661
Because it's easy to browse and easy to get what you want. No pics, no links to sections that you don't care, no distractions. Just enter the main page, click, click, clik, there, all the links you need in no time.

People used Myrient as a ROM site, but it was more than that: a preservation effort that functioned like a library, updated weekly, with no ads, no advertising, and a clean, easy-to-use interface.
Browns don't understand it and yet browns are the ones taking it apart.

But it’s grammatically incorrect. I pointed it out, and now you’ve moved the goalpost to:
>The suggestion that the other anon, possibly you, gave was also a double-negative
>Both are double-negatives
>both are grammatically correct
No, I wasn’t that Anon, and neither of them is grammatically correct.
Stop it, B2 monkey. Here's your (you). Bye-bye.

Guaranteed it was all of those scripts that contributed to the site's extreme costs, some normalfag downloading pokemon every so often isn't going to cost $6k a month, or else vimm's would've died ages ago. These scripts were paid too, they were actively making money off myrient

No idea what kind of industrial sized downloads they were doing, even having downloaded some 10 PS2 games a day wasn't ever enough to get my download speed capped there. I assume maybe everyone was downloading sets for their android handhelds, as these became popular recently
>>
>>12422816
Both of those were me, no surprise. And no, they are not grammatically incorrect. There is nothing grammatically wrong about double-negatives. They may be poor form to some, but not grammatically incorrect.

Arcadeitalia's mame DB is your friend, it's slow as shit 24/7, but they're the most comprehensive resource on exactly what roms/bioses you need for every game and each exact mame version, they don't host the games of course, but useful to check your files with. In modern mame versions, it should already tell you what you're missing, just look that file name up in whatever directory you downloaded it from.

If you make it a single huge torrent, not only will retards try to download the entire thing, but you'd have to remake it every time you changed a single file

Just Google [game name ROM] and go to one of the sites at the top of Google. This is how I've done it for 26 years. Just learn how the sites sometimes hide the real downloads and don't download anything that isn't the size of the game.
Or torrent, no doubt the place has been flooded with new entire console romsets in the last few days.
>>
>>12422325
In all my years of downloading roms Myrient was the best sight to use. That said, you're right, this isn't the first time one of the biggest rom sites went down and it wont be the last. Still sucks though. Myrient will be missed.
>>
This is just another FOMO with a rom site closing down, normie retards are probably mass downloading stuff just because they read about it on reddit.
You can find fullset of older consoles everywhere.
Sure, there's some PS1 ISOs that you probably won't find on spike's website that myriant has, but even so there's a billion rom websites on the internet.
The only media I like hoarding are vidya soundtracks and magazine/artbook scans, because some are really hard to find and you never know when the internet archive will get nuked.

I imagine they were worried about unwanted legal attention if they made too much noise about donations. They are hosting hundreds of terabytes of copyrighted material after all.
I'm surprised no richfag has stepped forth to save the site. There's gotta be some crypto-millionaire nerd out there who can front them a few hundred k. Who knows, maybe they're in talks with someone right now.

Back in mah day 4chan had a board "/rs/ - RapidShares" that hosted searchable direct download links to direct downloads on RapidShare, MegaUpload or whatever.
They were better times, I tell you what.
