Do you think Sonic ever goes to the city in the background? Maybe gets himself a nice loaf of bread?

I always imagined what was going on in cityscape backgrounds as a kid.

So are all the humans in the Sonic games just hoping the woodland critters prevent the end of the world again this week?
Eggman is constantly threatening a robot apocalypse and you don't see the humans doing a damn thing to stop him. Are they just completely powerless to do so, or just unwilling? After so many times is he even front page news anymore or more of a weekly update on which regions have been taken over?
He does seem to have a massive technological advantage. Eggman is building his sixth space station and meanwhile the sun god worshippers in Spagonia just invented the idea of putting chocolate chips into ice cream.

Robotnik is the only human on Mobius.
>>
>>12424824
Well, the screensavers are canon and many depict Sonic in a city so i'd say yes.
>>
>>12424836
Sonic canonically lives on Earth and even got himself some human pussy in Sonic '06. Mobius is fan fiction.
>>
>>12424864
Sonic Adventure and everything afterward is a different canon

you think he gets some cheese and roast beef with it too?

I know its apparently supposed to be an abandoned amusement park, but I always thought it was supposed to be an industrial one. The sunset aesthetic, the music, and the train at the end just fit too well.

My head canon is that GUN hired Ivo when he was still just a super genius who had developed a means for mass terraforming (and having kept tabs on his family since his grandfather worked for them) and that his first encounters with Sonic (sonic 1 was not the first time they met) was when he had a contract to develop the island regions in the southern hemisphere for future human occupation. At some point doing this, he felt his genius and families legacy was not being respected and decided to say fuck it and just use the mass construction and robotization he developed to conquer the world instead since his genius deserved to rule mankind. He starts out trying to build his empire in the southern hemisphere before eventually moving activities back towards human territory.

(Also in my fanfic head soup trying to make sense of sonics world, humans were an alien species that came from a Earth that was destroyed by the Black Arms and relocated to Mobius and they refer to it as the new Earth and the ARK is the last functioning remnant of a fleet of literal space arks)

He does on level 5

Mobius was never a thing in the games to begin with. Sonic 1 was set on South Island, which is on Earth.
>>
>>12424894
Chili dogs and Robotnik as a name were never things to begin with either, but time and time again the side media stuff ends up working its way into the "main" jap lore. Funny how Sonic in the beginning had a less fleshed out world than Mario and its nonsense.

I always imagined this too especially with casino night zone. Even the distant parts of the background look so lively.

With the exception of Labyrinth Zone (originally the second zone of the game) the level themes get progressively more industrial as the game goes on. Scrap Brain Zone being the ultimate conclusion of Robotnik’s promethean revolt against nature. Sonic is a manifestation of eternal divine law, inevitably bringing man’s flawed creation to ruin.

Never knew that, that makes a lot of sense. But apparently, Star Light and Spring Yard were also originally switched around? So the order was going to be: Green Hill, Labyrinth, Marble, Star Light, Spring Yard, Scrap Brain? I’m not sure I can get behind Spring yard being more industrial or metallic than Star Light.
>>
>>12424830
this all happens in the fairy realm. completely unnoticed and unaffected by the human realm.
>>
>>12425389

Starts his day in Greenhill, Finds an aqueduct that's Labyrinth zone that leads to Marble zone in the afternoon, then it starts to become evening in the springyard, leading into Star Light and arriving in scrap brain at dawn.

Star light does appear to be under construction considering the bare steel beams and caution signs everywhere.

That's not a city. That's where the human cattle are being kept for sustenance of the animal mutants. Robotnik is trying to save humanity alas in vain.

Sonic 2's time travel plot was also going to do this, Metropolis was an early stage to build to that "game ending early" fake out vibe, but then increasing the amount of industrial levels mid to late game until everything is dystopian cyberpunk.

Is this the famous Genocide city?
>>
>>12427957
Nah, that was from Sonic 2's original time travel plot. After mucking around in the past over and over, the final stretch of the game is South Island completely turned into a Eggman conquered techtropolis. With what we currently know, Genocide City didn't have any actual city background.

hill top and emerald hill are the same location which is why they have the same earth design. the mountains of the past erode into hills in present. which is why there is a dinosaur enemy in hill top. this is the only "time travel design pair" to survive it to the final. metropolis & genocide city was gonna be another pair. metro is steampunk while geno was cyberpunk
>>12427957
coincidently genocide was gonna be purple primarly
>>
>>12428259
Sonic 2 would've been way more kino if they stuck to the time travel theme. At least we got Sonic CD out of the concept.

thanks for eating my image chan

also the wood level and a full 2 act death egg?. exchanging 5 levels for 2? i would totally be ok with that
>>
>>12428282 tried to delete both posts and combine withh >>12428287
but only the first post was removed

even the middle point in development between the segment they dropped timetravel and the final- like around simon wai would be great. we wouldnt get the tornado gimmick levels but we would have had geno city, dust hill/dazzle and hidden palace. the devs said if they had 3 more months of time they would have gotten them in.

I actually loved the Sonic Jam's feature of difficulty modes, whenever I was bored i'd just play S3&K on easy difficult and it'd take me no less than 30 minutes to beat the whole game.
>>
>>12424864
Mobius is actually canonized, but it's an alien planet Robotnik invaded and neither he nor Sonic permanently live there.
>>
>>12425389
Sonic is punishing Eggman's arrogance for believing he can exist apart and above the natural world instead of alongside and within it. Sonic never has a problem using technology that's sustainable.

American-developed trash.
>b-but modern Sammy-run zombie Sega website!
Call me when you figure out time travel and the actual Sega of Japan acknowledges it back when it still existed.

Lol look at this guy opening admitting he got buckbroken, Sonic Spinball is a fine and short game and you just happen to be the 99% who got filtered by a pinball game for children.
