Owning a Saturn as your only console in the mid 90s probably would've been brutal. The genres are fairly limited, and there are so many jap-only games that you wouldn't have had access to, or even know about. Meanwhile you'd be seeing all these absolute classics coming out on ps1/n64.

But it's also one of those consoles that shines in retrospect because it has so much unique stuff most people probably never played before, so it's fun to go back and discover it in a way that someone getting into something like n64 never can

Say what you will about the ridiculous architecture, but the physical build quality of the Saturn was peak. The system is built like a fucking tank. I've never seen a Saturn have any disc reading issues, unlike all the duds I see when it comes to the ps1, ps2, the goddamn Dreamcast, gamecube, etc. And unlike the ps1 and dc, the laser assembly on the Saturn is also quiet. Ps1 constantly sounds like iis wobbling, and that horrible grinding scraping sound the Dreamcast makes is terrible

Yep, I recently bought a Saturn that was caught in a fire and it works beautifully still. I was shocked by how silent it is in use. The only finicky bit from what I can tell is the cartridge port.

>The only finicky bit from what I can tell is the cartridge port.
Yeah they're always like that
>>
>>12425434
Dude, the Dreamcast was killed prematurely.
>>
>>12425434
I think around 100 of those came out after it was discontinued, too.
>>
>>12425441
NiGHTS was supposed to be the new Sonic!
>>
>>12425434
How many of those released in the West?
>>
>>12425536
True but that port isn't designed for constant use anyway. You plug in your AR cart (or nowadays saroo cart) and you never touch it again

Sega should of cancelled the Saturn along with all of the retarded add ons.

Getting a gimped dreamcast by 1996 would of been good enough.

I love halo but Xbox was the worst thing to happen to gaming and we should all be celebrating their exit.

Nothing about this post makes sense.

The Saturn was successful early on in Japan, thanks to its superior software.

Holy shit.

Because they all saw minimal use

Those were used heavily and frequently

*in the US and Europe

North America will always determine whether something is successful when it comes to video games. Japan has been a secondary console market for 30 years at this point.
>>
The PlayStation snatched all the major sports games from SEGA.
>>
>>12426716
Okay, fuck you, Europe is the more important market and determined the success of PlayStation!
>>
>>12426802
Oh no not the sportslop
>>
>>12426535
In Japan too. It's not a success just because it barely outsold a failure.
>>
>>12426812
It's actually a huge success. Consoles that sell north of 10m units are considered successful.
>>
>>12426868
>Consoles that sell north of 10m units
Which the Saturn did not, of course. Nice non sequitur.
>>
>>12426880
Saturn sold 12.6m world wide
>>

Enjoy your delusions
>>

The number is based off of matching shipments and reported sales to share holders. You don't seem to know what you're talking about like most anti Saturn posters.

Source? It shipped 6 million in Japan and bombed everywhere else.
>>
>>12425804
That first version of VF was brutal. I remember getting the Remix for free I think

the quality to quantity ratio on the dreamcast is among the highest of of all time.
At least 1/6th of the library is good
saturn 1/10th
ps1 snes & genesis 1/20th
neo geo is like 1/4
n64 1/15
