>replay the ps1 FFs again
>every moment still feels magical
>makes you realize how totally generic and poorly made the vast majority of jrpgs are
god damn it anons please tell me there is something out there that can fill the void in my soul now. Im sick of chasing the dragon and being let down. surely there is something out there the same level of quality? the one other game I played recently that gave me the same fuzzy SOVL-packed feeling was my first playthrough of TTYD (but the rest of the mario rpgs didnt quite cut it). give me your comfiest, most immersive, most heart gripping JRPG recommendations please

I agree, OP. Those are my favorite 3 games of all time even though I beat them 25+ yrs ago. I replay 'em fairly often and it's always a wonderful time, all 3. I yearn for more but I have accepted reality. So much soul.

Earthbound is the only thing that competes in sovl-level IMO. Chrono trigger is pretty close too. Obviously FFVI and X are comparable. I recently finally played through DQIII for the first time and I'd say that's just as good but for different reasons. It has very satisfying gameplay/progression but it obviously very simple in the story/characters department.

play Growlanser
Growlanser wayfarer of time is fine if you don't want to play something too ancient

The PSX ones were ATB battle system. A bar fills up and you can choose a command, spd makes the bar fill faster. It's not fully on by default, you have to go in the settings and switch ATB to active. It's turn-based, but not. Crank up the speed and you have to act really quickly or else the enemy can keep taking shots at you.

Agreed

I agree, but you should check out more of classic DQ, anon

As >>12425582 notes ATB got really fun in the Playstation era. It can get downright hectic trying to keep up with the pace if you turn it up high enough. Makes some relatively easier games into a frenzy during boss fights and even normal encounters when there's enough enemies.

If you have this opinion you have deeper issues than not being able to find a game that tickles the fee fee im a baby boy part of your brain. You need to change your mindset or youll be perpetually miserable.

Ok OP, you asked for it.
Here is my answer: Breath of Fire 3.
It's a masterpiece that will make you feel all kind of feels. I will spoiler nothing. But it's the closet I ever came to the warm FF-feeling that you talk about.
BOF3 will make you feel heart gripping stuff. What you do now is up to you. I delivered.

>hear about this famous FF7, get around to it after beating most of FF1-6
>play OG
>its about some anime guy and his band of eco terrorists, some cranky middle aged cid, some guy dressed up as proto auron, scooby doo, some alien disney princess white mage, an annoying ninja, a robot cat, chasing around exxon mobil who are also chasing around some ghost guy trying to find fantasy israel and get revenge on fantasy exxon mobil for destroying the planet
>naruto character bad guy has a love hate bromance with anime hero guy and mother issues, something something number tattoos guys in black capes, why was tifa wearing cowgirl outfit in flashback?
>the nerd scientist at exxon mobil made sephiroth not sure, or he made jenova, or jenova is not mewtwo in final fantasy, confused, don't care really about details
>story bogged down with homoerotic wrestler men making me do boring ps1 minigames, odd fixation japanese developers have of making shirtless buff men in random places in game, don't remember this much previous FFs
I don't get it. 1 5 and 6 were fine. Why is this game such a bigass deal? It's like 4 all over again. Confusing ass story jrpgs are boring desu.

Legend of Mana. The style is warm, fantastical, cozy- fairytale in a uniquely storybook jrpg way. The natures of love and responsibility are the most-explored themes.
