Let's be honest, if you could only pick one home console per generation you would choose this as it is the objectively best line up, all sega console fail in one way or another compared to their peers with a serious lack of games and while the N64 may be appealing to Nintendo hardcore fans it's not worth losing 10000 ps1 games just for 10 excellent 1st party titles, meanwhile the GameCube doesn't even has good Nintendo games besides Melee.

Uh no I'd pick a N64 in the PS1 generation, because if you rightly pick a PS2 in the next generation you also get PS1 support.

nes
snes
n64
ps2

I'm glad then I wasn't poor and got to have multiple consoles per generation. Was the Master System as good as the NES? No, but I still had a lot of fond memories of owning one.

I would take the Genesis over the SNES but both were great consoles and I would miss owning either one. The TurboGrafx also had many good games in this generation and was worth having

The PS1 and N64 were both good. I would choose the PS1 here but the N64 and Saturn still had great libraries

I'd consider owning a PS2, GameCube and Xbox to all be essential and you were seriously missing out if you didn't own all 3
>>
>>12426834
Nope. I'd pick the Sega Master System, Sega Genesis, Sega Saturn and Sega Dreamcast. If forced to buy the competition(which happened in 1998), I'd buy a Playstation 1 and then later and original Xbox.
>>
>>12426834
NES
Genesis
PS1
PS2

If we allow the ps2 to play ps1 games in this scenario then:
NES
Genesis
Saturn
PS2

I keep saying this mentality to try and bring everything down to "a single thing", a single console, a single game per genre. Like all these posters attempting to spit on the Saturn, and the ones that say things like "Why should I play game Y when game X exists????"....

... and the only way I can explain it is that you're all a bunch of trend chasing pretender. You don't actually enjoy old video games, you're just trying to belong in a group and want to be 'in' because you had a PS2 and 2 games a year when you were 10; and saying people actually enjoying more than 1 console per generation and more than 1 game per genre reminds you that you are in a fact a bunch of poseurs, so you try and dimiss that too.

Well guess what, you're not fooling anyone. Find another hobby.

Master System (we had one)
Mega drive
PS1
Xbox

I’m not sure what tendie oestrogen pills you’re taking but the Mega drive had no shortage of games, that’s just revisionist narrow view, the Saturn I agree with but the rest had excellent libraries even the Dreamcast in its short run had a very diverse selection

My xbox. the original.
>>
>3 gen
The nes wins for quantity, but the master system was surprisingly close.
>4 gen
The mega drive wins if we count CD and 32X, if not the Snes, either way is extremely close, the pc engine is not that far away but it lacks a lot in some genres to win.
>5 gen
Psx no doubt, then the saturn and n64 at last.
>6 gen
Ps2 wins for quantity, really close are the dreamcast, xbox and gamecube.
>>
>>12426834
- NES
- Genesis
- 5th gen is a disgrace, best to forget it ever existed
- Not retro

3rd world poors couldn't pirate n64 games
>>
>>12427128
Anons, We're talking about electric toys, no need to trigger
>>
>>12426834
The super nintendo wasn't that strong. Most of the best snes games were just slightly more polished NES games.
Super Mario World == mario bros 3
Super Metroid == metroid

I'd pick Genesis, and the only games I'd miss from the SNES are the mode 7 racing games

I can't imagine not playing: Sonic 1 - 3, SoR 1-2, Ranger X, Mortal Kombat but with blood, etc.
>>
>>12427160
PS1 has destroyed the N64 in japan,Europe and north America too
>>
>>12427160
There are no n64 games worth pirating
>>

>PS1 has destroyed
lol, you are clearly ESL and poor

playstation better because bigger sales number. same reason avatar is the greatest movie ever made and taylor swift is the greatest artist of all time. I am indeed a man of high culture and taste.

Literally my console line up growing up. Had family with an n64, gamecube, Xbox, genesis and I agree OP. We did however also have a dreamcast.
>>
>>12426834
I think I'd pick the Mega Drive just because of Streets of Rage. SNes has better RPGs and I used to play then a lot when I was younger but not anymore.

I feel sorry for you not having played the pokemon stadiums with your actual GB cartridge teams (and getting 2x and 3x fastfoward), or putting your mario golf/tennis characters in the N64 games
You never got to play F-Zero X, or any of the Mario Parties
You never had 3 bros over to play Smash Bros with pokeballs only in the item switch, or Goldeneye, or Mario Kart, or Wave Race, or Diddy Kong racing?

Damn bro, you never played Paper Mario? Or Majoras mask? Or the Turrok Games?

One has like 4 good games, the other has not even a single good game
>>

nah sonygger
>>
>>12427189
I feel sorry that the n64s library is so barren you have to hype up literal handheld game accessories for one of the most boring and forced fads of the 90s. You have never played a good game in your life.
>>
>>12427195
Everyone has a pc though
>>
>>12427172
Playstation better because it has a big library just like the nes, snes and ps2

That's it, that's the big secret that makes a console great
>>
>>12426834
Close, but Genesis instead. You are wrong it in itself has no failures or short comings. If you wanna count CD or 32X as a failure then I disagree, they are add-ons, and the Genesis without them is a complete package.
Having said that, Genesis and SNES is probably the hardest choice, all other generations are easy, but the SNES thrives mostly on RPGs, and frankly the PSX has more and better RPGs to offer.
>>
>>12427193
It has after burner II, it's one of my all time favourites
>>
>>12427246
I would rather have more rpgs than more generic space shooters you can already play a million of those on any console
>>
>>12427189
>played the pokemon stadiums with your actual GB cartridge teams
Hey kids!! You can pay 60 dollars to only play the pokemon battles but in 3D
>>

>>12427189
dont bother anon these are the same people who think GTA and turn based anime jarpig are the height of gaming.
>>
>>12426841
>>12426850
Yeah, these. This is what I literally went with in my life and it was awesome. I didn't miss out on anything, which I would have if I didn't have an N64 to play with my friends and cousins.
>>
>>12427258
Genesis has a lot more variety than just space shooters, if you haven't spent much time with the library then you're in for a real treat. Psx also had a ton of great snes RPGs ported to it. All the FF games, other square soft games, almost all the SMT games, and some others.
>>
tendies are so mad right now haha
>>
>>12426834
Micro Genius or GB > NES.
GBA> SNES.
>>
>>12427010
>pc engine is not that far away but it lacks a lot in some genres to win.
nonsense. PC-E had more waifu games than SNES and Genesis.
>>
>>12426834
PS2
Not only fully backwards compatible, but also has many compilations of 2, 4, 8 and 16 bit for both the PS1 and PS2 to fill the urge to play those games
>>
>>12427172
>>12427205
Bill Gates DOS had the most games AND biz software. what did it win?
WinXP had even more than any consoles combined. maybe.
>>
>>12427448
None were good though
>>
>>12426834
Uhhhhh....
SNES
Saturn
PS2
>>
>>12427448
blue screens, crashes, driver issues and bad ports
>>
>>12427451
but muh numbers go up!
also Blizzard games, Ultimas, Wizardries, all the stuff which actually influenced japanese RPGs till this day.

if none of the iconical classic DOS and Win games were good, then none of the classic japanese RPG games were good.
>>
>>12427456
but numbers are high means good rite????
>>
The only good DOS game is daggerfall
>>
>>12427448
>what did it win?
Nothing because no one cares for most of those games. Fallout, Quake, Doom & HL are the only PC games people care about before 2000.
>>
>>12427483
Oh and Elder Scrolls.
>>

>N64 may be appealing to Nintendo hardcore fans it's not worth losing 10000 ps1 games just for 10 excellent 1st party titles, meanwhile the GameCube doesn't even has good Nintendo games besides Melee.
There's not a single Nintendo fan who was disappointed by N64 or Gamecube.
>>
>>12427483
>no one cared about diablo, warcraft, starcraft, baldur's gate, command and conquer, age of empires, civ, simcity, rollercoaster tycoon, myst
why do children come on this board and LARP like they know anything about gaming?
>>
>>12427517
N64? Obviously it's full of masterpieces
GameCube? Hell no, they shat the bed
>>

>NES
Correct.
>SNES
Nah I'd go with the Genesis. I got along fine without the SNES for much of my life.
>Playstation
Nah but it's a toss-up between N64 or Saturn.
>PS2
Never owned one, barely played any games for it. I'd probably go Xbox or Dreamcast.

I would pick Genesis over SNES. Just better

NES
SNES
Saturn
PS2
>360
>>
>>12426834
No, I'd pick the N64 over the PS1. Everything else is correct though.
>>
>>12426834
I think you should go Sega then Nintendo or viscera to prevent it from feeling repetitive. Master System was popular here and a lot of people got a Snes as their next system to try stuff like Mario.
The feeling is Oh look its Space Harrier and Hang On again or Oh look its Zelda and Mario again.
>>
nes
genesis
ps1
don't care, not gunna play it anyways for this gen
>>
>>12427517
Yeah that's what a fan is, a fanatic they don't care about quality they just want brand slop. Congrats at figuring that one out.
>>
>>12428616
Never understood this stupid logic, I obviously want to play sequels that are the games I like bigger and better instead of some other game I have no reason to give a fuck about
