Mid-'00s I remember:
Block Dude
Bubble Bobble
Phoenix - I played that more than any other shmup (because being stuck in class is the only reason I'd play one)

Memorize reactions for organic chemistry? Memorize trig identities for calculus? Fuck that, go into the program function and just type out notes and shorthand processes with arrows in stead of code.
Block Dude had some difficulty at the end, man I loved that game.

Oh yeah, phoenix was the shit, though once you git gud and get all the upgrades it becomes pretty brainless lol still always a great time waster in algebra class.

I later on got my hands on a TI-92+, and that thing had Game Boy graphics, which was an improvement lol that also had some pretty alright games.

I used to make little graphics demo programs on mine in ti-basic during math class and it's probably one reason my math grades weren't great.

It doesn't have the best game

I went to high school with a guy that was really gifted at programming. Unfortunately he used that gift to make TI84 games whose winning condition involved a little animated guy digging up a grave and fucking the body. Think tic tac toe but when you win you get shown necrophilia. All of his games were like that.
