I just 100%'d the entire trilogy back to back and I don't know what it is about Part 3 that pisses me off so bad. The level design feels way sloppier in general and has none of the kinetic energy the first two entries have, some of the levels are butt-fuck retarded like that stupid rocket stage, the koindozer level, that waterfall with the barrels falling down, etc. The soundtrack sounds like stoner music and Kiddy Kong makes me irrationally angry.
I know the general consensus is "its a good gaym but not a good dankey kerng gam" but I'm struggling to even call it that. Do I just have skill issue? Am I just a spoiled brat for expecting better?

#3 is the experimental entry, after the n64 was born and the snes was fading away. It feels like an unexpected afterparty, after most people left and the people who stayed have a cozy good time that is going to be remembered as much as the rest of the event by those who stayed after hours.

I haven't played it since it came out but I remember they really dialed-up gimmick shit in 3, but some of the bosses and levels were good.
I've replayed 1 and 2 so many times, maybe I'll give 3 a shot again just to see. I tried playing it last year but after replaying 2, Dixie and Kiddie are both noticeably slower than Diddy and it felt so shitty I only played 2 levels.

I wish I could get into the DKC games but I just never found them interesting the few times I tried. Even that water stage music that people are always ranting and raving about just doesn't do anything for me in the same way plenty of other SNES soundtracks do. Maybe someday something will change my mind.

I think it mostly comes down to you being retarded. I'll give you the level design, it's not as whimsical and uh, arcadey? as DKC2. There's a lot of starts and stops, or gimmicks that slow you down like killing the rats on wheels or the cheese puff shots. The game also makes a horrible impression music wise, with the worst song in the trilogy being on the first level.
What >>12427592 said is pretty on the money. It was made by a B team while the main boys were working on N64 games. It has a very cozy atmosphere, almost chilled out entirely. I wouldn't call it an acquired taste, but I wanna say it's something you need to mature into. The pacific northwest inspired map, the bears sidequest, getting more agency on the overworld and building little vehicles, it's comfy.
The music gets better and the bosses are the best out of the trilogy. I'll give you Kiddy Kong being awful but otherwise it comes down to DKC2 being a tough act to follow. You weren't gonna get a game that would top that in 1996, when the SNES was effectively done. But even then, I would still give this game's setting over 2's (I hate pirates).

I really liked Rockface Rumble, but yeah, most the soundtrack isn't as memorable for the game. I also really likd the one underwater level where your controls were reversed as one of the successful gimmicks. But 3 is definitely the weakest in the trilogy. Still enjoy it though.

It's because a majority of the music was done by a women. Dave barely did his part for the game.

>the third is a quick cash grab
3 has the most stuff in it by a pretty big margin though. The graphics are possibly the best on the snes too. 3 is outright netter than 1 in almost every way. If you prefer the music and aesthetics of 1 I got no argument, but 1 is jank with unpolished controls (compared to 2/3), worthless bonus rooms, crappy reused bosses, etc.

Its a platformer. You know what you're getting within the first couple levels majority of the time. Moreso, its DK. I beat 1 and 2 already and am smart enough to conclude that 3 is no different. If it couldn't draw me in within the first couple levels, that's not my fault.

nta. Not this time.
With older games, even platformers, there is often a tutorial intro section. Some games, like OOT or Golden Sun for example, take hours to get remotely good. The first "world" in DKC3 is hilariously simple Kirby-tier shit. Then it goes off the rails, it's a wild game.
Modern games often pre-load the beginning of the game then they fall off toward the end because everyone at least sees the intro. I prefer the old way where the good stuff comes in the middle or end.
Still not as good as 1 or 2, but it's a different thing. Lots of minigames and mindfuck levels with weird gimmicks.
