Not really. More a lack of confidence, which is fine, given his idyllic life on a largely remote (to him) island, away from the dangers that lurked elsewhere.

Yeah, it's almost as if the developers wanted put a whole world into a sandbox so you'd meet sorta strange looking people with kinda odd customs; add a bit of variety because of certain constraints. Didn't spot any rape gangs, trannoid shooters, religiously motivated suicide bombings, etc. Almost as if you had more in common with the characters both in game and IRL, than not...
