Maybe I just find it easy to connect with this game but I'm kinda sitting here in awe of how well the visuals, music, story, and gameplay work in harmony to create a beautiful piece of art that is also a fun, chill and deep jrpg. Like I'm listening to exposure from the ost and it's literal waves of various emotions building up to an unbearable pressure that washes over you because Sam canonically remains in control of himself.

There's legitimately a looot, a lot to say about the creative expression within this game that I'm not even going to explain it because the effort would be wasted on anything other than a well produced video essay that will earn me thousands of dollars (or that is plagiarized by a bigger channel to make them tens of thousands).

Never pay more than ZERO DOLLARS for RPG Maker sludge.
>>
>>3916908
Meh, while I do think it's miles above many RPG Maker games but I don't really have the same adoration that OP seem to have towards it.
IMO Fear and Hunger (2 especially) is better, in terms of gameplay and novel aspects. Dunno but Look Outside doesn't feel as immersive, although the idea was definitely cool and unique.
>>3916913
Pirated it, still think it's a good game. Better than Octoslop, Sea of Slop, Slop Project.

Not much of a challenge.

surprised that Frankie's still working on bug fixes and smaller content updates for the game. I figured that he'd shift development back to Malison after 2.0 since LO has overwhelmingly succeeded at bankrolling him for the foreseeable future

It’s still an engine. Yeah there is a lot of slop coming out of it but so is out of UE5. One of my friends is making a game in rpg maker atm and he’s been working over it for a year. I think it really depends on a game. If the dev wasnt bothered enough to make new sprites and textures definitely dont give them money
>>
>>3917430
That's the problem. You're too easily impressed by flashy visuals and art shit that has absolutely nothing to do with the game itself. You assign value to something that doesn't serve the gameplay in any way, shape, or form.
The game is bone stock RPG Make sludge from top to bottom mechanically and that, my friend, makes it worth $0. Zero dollars. If the developer can't be bothered to make something mechanically interesting, then they don't deserve the dirt upon which they stand.
>>
>>3917440
You are evaluating games by a single metric. This fine for aggressive internet tribalistic discussions, but does not reflect the reality of multiple important metrics.
>>
I think it'd be cool if XIN-AMON assimilated dead party members or had new phases but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Also, Dumpstercats on Twitch occasionally streams himself working on Malison sprites if anyone's interested.

So like Sea of Slop & Octoslop.
Which aren't even made in RPGM.

No, but you pretty much have to be to think that Shill Outside is anything more than a 5/10 game dressed up to make you PERSONALLY FEEL LIKE it's more than that.
Stop paying retards for shitty art and mediocre storytelling. Start glorifying actual, compelling gameplay. Oh... wait, that's like telling you to suddenly have a brain, or a soul, for that matter.

It's a project that didn't even mean anything to Frankie before it got really big. I don't know why retards act like it was anything but a fluke. Malison is gonna be an actual game.

I figured out a strat for Rat Child. If you get Hellen early (or know you are gonna get Hellen as early as Day 2/3 if you have the door encounter mods) consider sacrificing an arm for Rat Child - if you can roll to get the meal interaction for Prowl/Pounce it costs a single stamina and if you setup the parties Agilities correctly you can make sure Hellen always has a full powered Stab (with a second weaker Stab too potentially if she has Coat of Arms) on turn 1 at the end of the turn. This gives him cheap positive utility/damage outside of shooting the pistol until he gets to level 12 which from then on he can Prowl/Pounce with Coat of Arms to do even more damage than Hellen's Stalk/Stab Coat of Arms combo since he has a 3x modifier over Hellen's 2x modifier and can use even Crush weapons with his version of the move. He also has slightly higher base attack than Hellen but you won't notice that until he gets to 12 since all his melee damage is halved until then.

Really not a fan of how he said Parze is gender neutral and can be anything you want to be. I understand they're going to be an avatar but it kinda kills some enjoyment for me of the character, or the idea of them.
Something simple like that kinda kills the game for me, it's dumb and I don't even mind the idea of trans things but it just rubs me the wrong way.
He seems very confused on what to do with Malison despite it being a game so long in the making.
>>
>>3919898
He says the same about Sam who is painfully, obviously male. Contrary to the assumptions in his Twitch chat, it has less to do with contemporary gender politics and more with putting yourself in the character's shoes. As for the classes in Malison, they're technically separate lives you're assuming control of (outside of the hard mode one, which is just Parze but disheveled).

I think it would have been interesting if certain flags caused Sam-like shades to manifest as party members like Aster witnessing the end of Wizard's Hell twice or scaring the Feral God or the First Witness finding out every single one of its organs are dead or simply inflicting Pain on the Visitor
>>
>>3919994
>The shades becoming game characters
sorta having more lens cracking on that whole 'true ending' thing
more lens cracks there would be neat in general
like I was surprised it didn't happen. Like if we shifted perspective and we see everyone else dealing with a cursed world spanning "sam" that refers to itself as chase dressing its countless appendages as various characters/NPCs/Enemies from Massacre Princess like endless puppets and playing out the game with the appendages. A Sam with a delusion that 'stabilized' in that state between sanity and insanity some cursed seem to exist in (like the rat king).

This. Fear & Hunger's gameplay is way more fun and addictive. It has no cheevos and yet I "100%-ed" both games, including pretend special endings like "Save everyone except yourself" with multiple characters, all characters' unique endings, etc. Look Outside has nice music and visuals, but it's ultra generic gameplay wise.
>>
If you are using Leigh/Joel/Xaria (& Rat Child with Predator Snarl could potentially be used too but he is better off with skills over basic attacks. Morton too potentially with Severed Hand/Rotten Flesh/Warm Eyeball/Fidget Cube) - go with the Papier-Maché Crown/Royal Decree - aka have Roaches form a monarchy. Otherwise Schism for permanent coat of arms or Republic for Appoint Governor & to give Roaches his near guaranteed immortality back. Roaches likes Royal Decree too since it can help him whip everyone multiple times to spread 2-3 roaches/poison/bleeding to all enemies.

Ernest has higher utility potentially with Joel/Leigh/Xaria/Morton/Rat Child/Roaches since he can use Double Time to give out extra attacks but Sam can also do that with Royal Decree. Even then Aster's Strategic Huddle prob immediately makes Aster better than Ernest for buffing on recruitment even with those teams since it's incredibly cheap (6 STM vs 20 STM), lasts multiple battles, and adds an extra 15% to crit to all attacks including many abilities you wouldn't think it would impact like Audrey's Refreshments. Ernest has a better turn to turn DPS cause of Squeakems/Feedback spam + better status effect prevention for the entire party with Song of Willpower but I think Strategic Huddle alone might be so versatile and strong that it makes Aster immediately a direct upgrade. And that's before we talk about Fire Safety Protocol's utility vs Furnace and a few others + Um Actually curing all status effects too - I do think Song of Willpower is likely better but I could see the argument for Aster just immediately replacing Ernest later on in a run. Strategic Huddle > Song of Strength though which is gonna be what Ernest tries to spam to keep up with Strategic Huddle at low cost. 20% extra damage is nice but 15% extra crit can do some absurd things when you stack crit.

Maybe
I think I may just find the thought of the survivors having to deal with and navigate the logic of a Chase fractal with "puppet" appendages capped with Massacre Princess characters amusing. And not totally impossible to deal with as survivors who played massacre princess would have more idea of what to do and all that.
>>
>>3920280
Delegating fractal appendages to have the identities of game characters/NPCs also probably helps a bit with retaining sanity even if it means they'd not be nearly as helpful as denial ending sam.

I meant more as final bosses shift from fight to flight that makes their situation even worse by having their fears manifest as even more shade Sams showing up out of thin air as shades tend to do (or the MP party members now that you mention it)
I was surprised there wasn't any interaction from using painful stab on the Visitor, I mean it's an explicitly very painful wound that hurts when it moves being inflicted on the eye of an ever changing thing that probably never even understood the concept of pain before

I wish he wasn't basically a solo dev and he could just port it to fucking gamemaker like Lisa and actually do interesting shit with it since he clearly wants to work on it more than Malison.

I don't care what he works on, I'm sure it'll be good either way
>>
>>3921544
My point is that if he's going to continue working on LO as he clearly enjoys it, he should port it to a real engine where he could actually experiment and do more interesting stuff in to test FOR Malison.

It's doing the game, and his own creativity a disservice by having it be stuck in RPGM
>>
It's not an engine issue. It's a developer skill issue. The trouble is, because he lucked into a fanbase of Neanderthals who will pay up $10 for the privilege of playing sludge that is worse than countless free RPGM games (made by developers with actual skill) he has zero incentive to improve - he KNOWS you will tolerate the sludge. He KNOWS you're a bunch of retarded hogs who will line up in front of the trough any time he updates a single pixel in his game so you can spend 10,000 posts across 20 general threads analyzing that single pixel.
Congratulations on being just another shitty version of the Undertale/Deltarune fanbase.

>>
>>3921564
SMT references. SMT4: Apocalypse DLC, if I remember correctly.
>>
>>3921624
Eugene, Lyle or Jeanne I think would be likely substitutes going by "proximity to aster" logic, unsure if being already cursed disqualifies when Jasper was cursed. And being cursed yet sane still causes mutations from the gaze?
Eugene already has worm subplot stuff and comes off as someone who would be very fuck that about anything outside related.
Jeanne is mixed case as on one hand, very good cause to not want to go outside. On the other, confidence after laundry and maybe boredom/curiosity after a few days. And yeah let's not find out what a direct gaze from the visitor would do to a hydra.
Lyle is probably the most likely one of the three to agree to substituting due to knowing a bit of it and sam's involvement with the astronomers to be honest.
But man losing 2 party members if you also recruited aster sounds pretty bad.
>>
>>3921628
Exposing Jeanne to the outside probably would be some floor 4 related shenanigan due to the floor based mutation mechanic she has.
>>
>>3921564
Anon posted YHVH specifically from smt4a. Nanashi is the godslayer who killed YHVH since he's a piece of shit. Hellen, since she wanted to kill the visitor, basically a god

Mephisto is not actually a vampire, but looks like one.

Malison being the main project makes sense the more I think about it, as it explains why you see fantasy monsters that wouldn't be out of place in Malison (the furnace, the rat king and such).

What about Massacre Princess, the best RPG of all time?
>>
>>3922236
Fractal Chase is the most annoying world fractal Sam. Yeah he poked the visitor’s eye and scared the visitor off, but the world is now filled with those damn puppets of stuff from that game. Could be worse as the delusion constrains his logic so if a monster branch attacks as a ”random encounter” you just need to hit it enough to make it fuck off after it regurgitates coins. Chase himself is a branch and you cannot convince him that he is doing it as he doesn’t view himself as one entity to begin with.

>>
>>3922252
True.
And the person who knows how to exploit / break the mechanics of massacre princess would be basically the Morton for anyone dealing with this mess.
>>
>>3922274
Though I'm pretty sure someone has done some RPG thing out there where the premise of the game or at least one of the areas is that there is a massive eldritch monster and all the characters/enemies you encounter are all tendrils of it with specialized personalities that are fragments of the mind at the core of it all. And I don't mean like puppets on strings or separate bodies; you can very obviously see they're tendrils of some much more massive organism. If a game like that exists I'd be interested in it.

Content+ ideas are everywhere for this sort of game, the way it has 13 endings as is almost invites such speculating.
Like what if the ritual gets hijacked by other characters oblivious to the intent or goals of the ritual behind your back if certain conditions are met (like telling the wrong person about the astronomer stuff). And you only noticing they're not the astronomers when it's basically too late, like maybe some foreshadow with them not mutating even when given a blatantly false item or such and the eye colors on the astronomers being all wrong. or even one of them having suction cup fingers..

It's Juicejug
>>
>>3923221
What is interesting about this combination is they kinda are like "flaunting individuality" but in the worst ways possible. Fred is kinda egomaniacal and maybe dealing with DID at the same time, the worms see themselves as worms and make you see yourself as worms, the shrooms are an arrogant mold colony that see everyone else as just fodder to grow their colony and juicebox is whatever juicebox is.
>>
>>3923234
Different from the quartet in that they are still "separate" and not remotely as fused (imagine spaghettified strands of their forms contorted into interlocking spirals or such) and after some dialogue in the first four or five turns where their little alliance of convenience falls apart, start attacking each other as well. So it'd have scarier abilities and stats than the quartet by far but it gets tempered by how they attack each other or even temp ally to you at times.
>>
>>3923221
I'd have it be them doing one final desperate attempt on the final day to get their offerings
Jasper trying to get a firsthand account from Rafta only for her to realize he's "also worms"
Beryl trying to get the convenience store key only to get molded
Aurelius trying to retrieve the painting only for the Face Stealer to realize that he is quite an interesting role to play
Aster coming to the wrong conclusion and figuring that the liquid and tube are referring to Juicebox's hands and the liquid went through his because it's not his hands to hold
>>
>>3923238
Honestly for Aster I would have had him get pulped by Edwin when he tries asking him for help instead of being replaced by Juicebox but whatever, Juicebox was already here
>>
>>3923240
I also thought of edwin but stargazer is considerably harder to hide under a cloak and I’m not sure if any flesh forms can leave the flesh parallel world while juicebox already has a hood, I also wanted to still have it possible to have dream eater aster available if he was recruited as a party member. Edwin maybe has motive for it but it’s unclear if they’d figure it out like face taker just hearing what Aurelius tells them or the shrooms/worms who would learn of it via assimilation. Meanwhile juicebox comes off as chaotic neutral enough that they might do it out of curiosity or who knows what other reasons (maybe having the most tragic motive of the four) and I couldn’t think of anyone else.
>>
>>3923243

>>3923245
Chaotic Neutral- Juicebox
Lawful Evil- Shrooms
Neutral Evil- Facetaker
Chaotic Evil- Worms (kinda feels like they're chaotic despite assimilating)
>>
>>3923249
Of course they're chaotic, they break people apart when they "assimilate" them and each worm can be its own individual
>>
>>3923243
>stargazer is considerably harder to hide under a cloak
it's not like he has to fully hide himself since he doesn't appear in the light anyway
>>
>>3923255
Maybe instead of just pulping aster they knock him out and drag him to the rooftop to be a "witness" to the ritual? They have a prior relation to aster and retain some sanity so I feel like they'd not just pulp a former colleague. So that'd be a way to still have Dream eater aster in the party if you recruited them prior.
>>
>>3923257
He could have turned from the projection from the telescope
>>
>>3923258

>>

I think this would happen with a Recruited aster but otherwise they'd just be on the roof.

Basically imagine like some fucked up galaxy-like shape where each of the arms are spiraling/twirling around the “core” pupil with there being a paint arm, shroom arm, telescope arm and worm arm that mutates into every more twirled spirals in later turns but never merging like the astronomers do. And they attack each other as much as they do you. Not sure what their move sets would be beyond likely taking from their non-spiraling form but I figure edwin’s invisibility would temporarily go away for a several turns whenever a blackhole is used due to its light absorbing, invisible spiraling edwin’s agility is pretty high when invisible but very low when visible.
>>
>>3923274
>invisible spiraling edwin’s agility is pretty high when invisible but very low when visible.
His evasion is comically high but he can't hit for shit
>>
>>3923277
So spiraling edwin may use blackhole to regain visibility and for the next few turns following up with hard hitting attacks while visible. Visibility would happen due to say, Sophie’s blackhole marble as well.
But the other three?
>>
>>3923288
The other three are attached to hiveminds so worms, Freds, and fungi can crash the party if they're still alive
The fungi and worms can have a tug of war for charming your party members
Paint will attempt to inflict status effects like blind or sleep on other parts when they are about to unleash a strong attack and poison Telescope when it's visible
They gang up on a segment if it has much more or much less health than them, prioritizing much more
>>
>>3923274
The dialogue in my head is amusing since I’m just imagining wormed jasper being about worms worms and the shroomed beryl being about shroom shrooms so they have a serious conflict of interest over that, meanwhile “astronomer Fred” is gets offended by the thought of being a worm or a shroom all the while edwin is realizing the other three killed their their astronomer colleagues (cognitive dissonance) and then physically lashing out at them over that due to being unable to speak.
>>
>>3923290
There's a very high chance that Edwin doesn't even target you and just tries killing the other segments
>>
>>3923288
Obviously all shadow damage would show him (though he's weak to shadow damage and by extension the fungal limb so be careful)
>>
The idea the worms would be disgusted by the shroom tendency for illusory deception is funny to me for whatever reason
>>
>>3923300

It goes to show how different assimilators can be.
The Shrooms are basically scammers, all their items are debuffs and they lure you in to have more mass for the colony basically on a false pretense.
The worms meanwhile are true believers and driven by that belief. Nestor even thanks you and tells you what he's up to even after like right in front of you hijacking Eugene. And the worms even have items that actually help you unlike the shrooms. All worm based because of course.
>>
>>3923314
Also how the worms have the work jacket that blocks charm which is kinda useful against the spore queen

>>
>>3923289
Yeah and ironically enough I think none of them would be as apocalyptic for the world as truth ending Sam lol.
Fred just would show the visitor the painting probably. Edwin can't ask to see the full visitor form due to being unable to speak so they'd probably be endless telescopes trying to see more but in orbit. Still less murderous than beast Sam. And the worms / shrooms unwittingly causing separate identity forms due to probably convincing the visitor they are their spawn (which does have truth to it) and they're incubating still so come back later etc. though it is hard to know if visitor exposure would mutate them out of prior objectives or if they'd be screaming sky level destructive/dominance shift catastrophe.
>>
>>3923547
Okay maybe fred would be a global paint abomination ruling things with countless copies of himself like a mad neroesque emperor and legions of paint people enforcing his rule, meanwhile the worms take over and achieve a "co-existence" with mention of a civil liberties struggle that got humans a whole 80 years of life before being brooded. Meanwhile the fungus probably would an illusory "savior" of the world thing but then it turns out they just are farming people like animals at best. Then you have edwin's global telescopes wanting to see more of the visitor but unable to ask the visitor directly plunging the world into darkness under a global layer of telescope arrays (Okay maybe that is Sam beast level doom still). What happens varying on who has the most hp on losing the fight, winning the fight means none of those catastrophes happen.
>>
>>3923547
it's not like they could be, if left to their own devices they'd just tear themselves apart and you'd end up with No Going Back
>>
>>3923552
Fred world would have endless revolutions and civil wars lel
>>
>>3923556
>The world is my canvas, all shall know the chaotic beauty that is to be painted.
>>
>>3923555
so even those disasters would be a product of Sam tilting the scales, oops
>>
>>3923552
>(Okay maybe that is Sam beast level doom still)
If the telescopes are like the one in his room then it could still work with numerous patches of light (uncountable spotlights) until he spots the Visitor and all those patches become depictions
>>
Okay maybe the shrooms would cause a Unity tier doom if they unwittingly convince the visitor with an illusion that they are also visitor without realizing the implications of that.
>>
>>3923573
>The visitor just absorbs the shrooms, rest of earth unscathed
>>
>>3923573
They'd give the Visitor a fungal infection and the Visitor goes "yep, I got what I came for" and leaves
>>
Can you imagine the shitstorm if an official sequel were made that canonised the rat being wall food?
>>
>>3923577
The worms meanwhile were individuality flaunting enough to say they're a new colony of worms that needs "more time to incubate" and they're sincere in that belief. Maybe it just delays reintegrating by a few millennia but still, time bought to spread worms to places the great worm missed and worm-human co-existence will facilitate this great endeavor.
>>
>>3923565
>Void Sky ending

>>3923583
I feel like frank is also someone who likes the rat child too much to do that but I may be wrong
>>
>>3923584
So they do kinda end up as distorted versions of truth (edwin forcing the truth onto others)/denial (Fred's ego revelation getting in the way of wanting to see full form)/unity (shrooms "uniting" by accident, unintentionally saving the world)/promise (worms flaunting the individuality enough despite still causing a dominance shift catastrophe).
As Worm'd Jasper still is kinda did Sybil's aims just really not in the way expected.

Unsure if winning leads to the usual visitor endings or if the lack of offerings limits the options a bit.
>>
>>3923594
And yes I think it is grim to think the shrooms with the most malignant intentions for earth end up accidentally saving it but it just makes sense with how they like telling people what they want to hear so lying about being a little cute visitor backfiring on their shroom colony alone due to accidentally stumbling into the truth while leaving everything else (comparatively) unaffected just seems like what'd happen lel
>>
>>3923599
Grim?
No, it's beautifully ironic as their own deception backfires so spectacularly
Sam really is like the Visitor in that way, it's Phillippe all over again
>>
>>3923603
The other three have more 'room' for negotiation with the survivors than beast sam or the exalted four come to think of it. Yes even Edwin, who would still prove to be sane enough to explain what why they are doing what they are doing to whoever manages to figure out how to talk to it.
>>
>>3923594
The worm jasper meanwhile would probably thanking the visitor for stopping by and showing them that they are actually worms, referring to the visitor as the father worm and hoping to see the visitor again soon once they are fully incubated.
>>
>>3923637
So individuality flaunting via filial separation I think would happen in the worm situation. Precedent for that kinda exists as Kevin referred to the torso as their parent IIRC.

Amazing diagram here, yw but I bet sex with jeanne is really awkward. You don't feel anything and it's hard to get "in" there, but she'll still moan like crazy like somethings happening. She'll probably accidentally kick you in the face sometimes on just pure reflex too.
Regardless of that, having to push all her million legs out of the way and still not being able to find anything. Just kinda sticking your dick in there, you feel SOMETHING but not anything that makes sense. It's tight and a bit painful, but you're not sure if it's just like, leg armpit or actual hole.

Oral is probably your best option...but it's gonna be a bit scary. Maybe you can get some sort of retainer for her teeth, or stick marshmallows on them...

There are two people in Dan's chat who began laying eggs after transforming, and Rafta's male hosts are specifically human.
>>
>>3924637
Laying eggs doesn't necessarily mean they are fertile or that they are viable.
It can also just be the "idea" of a child like Irumyuiis offspring. Visually, an egg but not actually an egg capable of growing, for Dan's chat anyways. More so if we go off the idea of imagination being the key to the world, it's what they picture might happen. Our body keeps the genetic code to do such things, but without fully understanding something we can't replicate it. (I.e make viable eggs)
Considering asexual egg reproduction exists too tho, I don't think Rafta counts either. I don't see her as anything different from Khezu. They need others to survive and continue on, and if they are unable to find a host, they can't exist.

I wish this game had better gameplay. The visuals and music are nice but the combat is so fucking boring and none of the bosses live up to anything. I'm like on day 4 and I killed the Rat King and the Stargazer and the Pompom and most of the obviously not-human-but-pretending-to-be human painter's bosses. Some of the enemies look cool but fighting them is always just a bore-chore, they don't do anything interesting. I ran away from the monster on floor 2 that chases you just because I thought it would be a super hard boss fight but apparently that was super easy and I locked myself out of some things because I didn't fight him. And why do I have to game so much? Between day 3 and day 4, I didn't even get to sleep, I played crossword puzzles for 1+2+3 hours, and three games for two hours and my character is still bored.

>Why is everyone a nigger in this game?
Ignore the other guy, the real reason is because this is a quintessential Black culture game. It's set in the 'jects so of course it only has Black folk in it.

I killed Aster on the second floor as a joke. Does that mean I am now locked into the 15 days ending? I wanted to do 3 days only...

You can still get Flawed Ritual, Failed Ritual, Unity, or Words of Power.

On second thought, killing Aster would most likely disrupt the Unity route, especially if you killed him before asking about the group.
