Thinking about playing Geneforge, but the original version runs terribly for me. Should I just play the Mutagen version instead?

No, you should continue playing a game that's running terribly for you, retard.
>>
>>3928429
Of course you should play the mutagen version, there is no reason not to, it’s a great remaster.
>>
>>3928429
Yes. The Geneforge remasters are about the only remasters ever that I would recomend over the originals.
>>
>>3928429
i forgot, what was the reason for them leaving the island again and just leaving all their creations?
>>
>>3928547
They made a super weapon that turned shapers insane and didn't destroy it because of reasons and instead left it there along with a bunch of sentient creations and just assumed everything would be fine.

And to be fair it was until you and the human foreigners showed up.
>>
>>3928613
Actually it made shapers super shapers, and non shapers, shapers.
>>
>>3928429
I was thinking of picking up the saga on steam. Might just pick up the remaster then because I dont want to risk all 5 games running like shit lol
>>
>>3928534
I genuinely struggle to think about cases where I would choose the original over the remaster.
>>
>>3929423
Considering every remake of Exile gets more casualized (less skills, party members, etc) I'd be careful
Then again I don't remember anything "less" in the geneforge one so who knows
>>
>>3929423
That's probably just because you are a massive faggot. It's ok to have another mans dick in your ass these days so you are fine. You may also be a child, that is also fine as you just lack taste and just might one day develop it.
Remakes and remasters are near universally giant steaming piles of shit.
>>
>>3929423
This guy fucks. Real ones know Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition SMOKES the original.
>>
>>3929703
1/10 bait, very lazy
>>
>>3928429
Yes, just play Mutagen. It's not even that different from the original.

>>3928547
They thought they would be coming back soon
>>
>>3929726
Boombooms unironically go into a pantshitting rage if you want to play your games in a resolution higher than 10x5.
>>
>>3929668
Retarded faggot nobody mentioned remakes, those are a completely different thing.

>Boombooms unironically go into a pantshitting rage if you want to play your games in a resolution higher than 10x5.
The widescreen mod for BG1 that lets you play at whatever resolution you want is literally almost 20 years old. You kids are really dumb as fuck, sometimes.
>>
>>3930037
How big can the difference between the original and enchaned even be? You retards are just bored and are finding shit to be purists about
>>
>>3930063
Nostalgia and pointless purism is the only thing boomers have left. Culture has moved on from them and the only digital space that still caters to them is Facebook. I see no problem in letting boomers relive their faded youth in perpetuity, but unfortunately they do get very defensive about it and tend to lash out when confronted with reality. Reminds me of when I worked in a home for people with dementia.

This game's really great. Wandering into abandoned research facilities wondering what the hell went wrong here gives a game a Fallout feel that I wasn't expecting.
>>
>>3932321
It's one of the better "post apoc" games out there, because it's not cookie cutter. Very good setting.
>>
So who even uses battle or fire shaping? Magic shaping is incredibly good for crowd control and there's some encounters in the late game that I don't know how I would've beaten with the other creations.
>>
>>3928534
Stupid take. The little story additions totally does not fit. The remade shaping does not fit either and is, frankly, fucking stupid.
I get those who are technically daft and have performance issues, so they opt to play remaster, but if you played the original, know how to get it working and still recommend remaster over it, you are a fucking faggot.
Jeff is your average shitlib feminist and Geneforge saga had no business being this good. The remasters should have been the last nail in the coffin when it concerns the discussion of him being a hack if Queen's wish wasn't enough already for some retards in denial.

Original all the way.
>>
>>3933646
how is the overall story? I only play RPGs for their storytelling
>>
>>3933711
>how is the overall story?
Isn't pretentious. Extremely well written. Logically sound. Multiple endings. Every self proclaimed fan RPG should experience Geneforge.
>>
>>3933713
Which editions? GOG or Steam? I find that in general Steam is more expensive but works out of the box all the time while GOG versions need tweaking and sometimes don’t even work correctly even after tweaks.
>>
>>3933768
It runs well with Steam/Proton, but I bet you are not running loonix or have a deck.
No idea about GoG.
>>
>>3933910
Good guess. What gave it away?

>What gave it away?
If you are not just pulling my leg, it always has been fairly unpopular.
Steam has this guide:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3200634494

Seems legit.

You can always just download and try the demo (which is the full version btw) from here (an official page):
http://spiderwebsoftware.com/geneforgeoriginal/index.html
To try if you can even run it.
Demo being a full version means you don't need an actual cracked .exe or anything, just the key which is easy to find online if you choose to do so.

I'm pretty sure spiderweb forums should have a thread on how to get it running as well, if steam guide doesn't help.
>>
>>3928429
Spiderweb remakes are generally better to play, unless you want to suffer the problems of getting the old versions to work.
>>
>>3933768
OP here. I chose to play the Mutagen version from GOG and it worked perfectly. The original version of the game was laggy, unresponsive, and annoying though.
>>
>>3933646
magic shaping (or more specifically, glaahks) are busted because of dominate/terror, but fyoras and drayks can shit out a ton of AoE damage and you can just do crowd control with your shaper (assuming you're not a guardian)
>>
>>3934034
>magic shaping (or more specifically, glaahks) are busted because of dominate/terror
That's exactly why I loved them. At first I wasn't sure about them because they were melee attackers, but when I saw how effective the dominate/terror combo was they became instant favorites.
>>
>>3933768
Nigga GOG applies fan patches to games before selling them.

Steam sells broken games that don’t run out of the box and games that need patching to work

But i like both platforms pretty equally
>>
>>3934045
mental magic has always been super busted in these games. agent would be unplayable without it
>>
>>3933768
I just started a playthrough of this (classic). I am about 6 hours in it's pretty cozy.
>>
The glaahks in GF1 are great, but trouncing everyone with a pair of beholders in GF2 is even better.
>>
>>3934057
Get old games on GOG
Get new games on Steam
>>
>>3936162
same. also check the game's forum for mods and more up to date fan patches.
>>
>>3929703
Eh, only for megamodding because of the original game's pants-on-head-retarded way of checking if an item is important or not.

For the rest of us: It checks EVERY item in your inventory, including in bags, including scroll cases, including potion cases, all the time, constantly, because it MIGHT be used for something.
