I recently finished Wild ARMs 2 and 3. 2 was pretty shitty but 3 was alright. Should I stop here or are the other games worth checking out? Excluding Alter Code F, I already know it's a shitty remake.

You can play 1, it's pretty solid. I liked 2 more than you did but whatever - 3's still my favorite out of them.
4 and 5 are kinda fucked. 4 at least is fucked in an interesting way (and it's pretty short) so I'd say give it a try if you're interested. 5 imo is too long and really boring. Aside from the music - which is great for every wild arms game - there isn't much of anything that's worthwhile in 5.
I haven't played XF. Can't really comment on it aside from it's a tactics strategy game instead of your more traditional jrpg.

The game often literally tells you which direction to go, and your next destination is basically a straight line from where you are directed.
>"Those ruins are southeast of here."
>Walk southeast for 6 seconds, scan, find ruins.
The game has real bullshit, like the alien side quest or the myriad optional bosses. Arioch in particular.

Gameplay wise, its a refined version of WA3. There are interesting things they did there like Emma's monster skills and the Abyss dungeon being less straightforward marathon but at the same time, they did something wrong like putting the steal skill from Jack to Jane, so item hunting will be around late game.
Weird thing also is that NG+ will fuck up Jack's Fast Draw leveling since you'll retain his level from previous playthrough but resets his Fast Draw skill level and you have to grind it again but his high level will make it extremely hard because the skill exp you'll get from using it from high levels is just 1.
Simply put, consider Alter Code F as a new game.

>Yeah, I thought everyone liked 3
I think it shows me why I liked WA1/2 but especially 1, although I forget now, their dungeons with a simple variety of puzzles and steady treasure rooms is satisfying. It makes it more fun to push forward through random encounters, cause I can even predict which room will be the treasure.
And the constant boss battles make the story exciting, I see a cutscene where the Masked Man says he's sending the Huskarls after you, that's not some slow buildup that you see a couple hours later. You start the next area and they're blocking your way, they're the story of that dungeon.

I dunno man. You don't like 2 which is kinda the best in the series, even with abysmal graphics and a very low effort translation.
1 - classic, great music, fun characters, for its time an alright story. Graphics kinda bad for its time.
Alter code- people talk a lot of shit. I liked the remake. It does its own thing, adds three more party members. It changes some stuff for the worse for the original, but for newer generations, its more than a good and faithful remake. Fuck the haters.
2- best in the series as far as I'm concerned. Really good characters, story that takes some turns, no character is useless, some fuck yeah moments. It's just good, even with the problems I mentioned.
3 - alright. I personally wasn't that much of a fan, but it has its spot. Virginia is a good nut juice extractor, story is kinda rehashed ( all wild arms games pretty much repeat the same thing).
4 - you are probably gonna hate the combat system, most do. It had a sword waifu that I liked and a bitter sweet ending that kinda turns the main characters into hypocrites.
Didn't play the psp and 5 but generally you either like it or hate it, no real middle ground.

XF gets undue flak. The story is solid and there's some proper kino in there. The problem is people look at the screenshots and make the assumption that it's "FFT on a hex grid" when it plays more like a puzzle/tactics hybrid. The classes have more distinct roles and it's got a notably greater variety of missions than its contemporaries but the problem is this all leads back in to the puzzle aspect, which in turn leads to frustration when you're expecting the solution to be "hit it harder".
I'll admit the first mission to filter me was when you had to stop a bunch of barbarians that were trying to charge past your position, my generalist party was doing pretty well up till that point. Must have played that mission a good dozen times over before I wised up and switched my skills and classes.

Actually it’sDreams
And yeah, they all are a mix of Western/Sci-Fi/Fantasy in various amounts, and some are more upfront about it than others, but I’d still say 3 wears the Western on its sleeve the most.
The environment is a lot more deserty/wastelandy, all the characters use guns as their weapons, you ride horses (and can fight on horseback(!)), and outside of the set-dressing, they constantly play on a lot of the traditional western characters and themes.
