Out of all the characters thus far in that game the ones I'm interested in are the sister and the angel everybody else seems secondary so far, I wonder if the H scenes of this one will be canon compared to the non canon of Innocent Rules, L.Deph and Asylum where they existed as an obligation rather than part of the story, each game you can beat without getting lewd once compared to the sequel series where mana tank will be plapped, through I haven't played any of them in a while, I think awake and kludge can be done without getting lewd with anyone cept getting sucked off by Kuruha at the start.

Way late but just finished the IR main story and feel like I understood basically nothing from the plot. Does the postgame flesh things out more or am I going to need to replay and pay more attention to the story?
As an aside, the huge cast felt like the biggest stumbling block for the game as a whole - almost zero party interactions during the story, only 2 near-identical scenes per character, party management of XP being a nightmare (equipment too to a lesser extent), and skill trees were greatly shortened as well. The last two in particular felt the most discouraging for swapping up the party during my playthrough which seems like the main intent of the game. Maybe it'd be worth a second go limiting myself to only the monster girls you can find in each zone to force some more experimentation?

There's a lot more in the postgame, but something you may not have realized is that the game takes place in Cocooned Land.
>The last two in particular felt the most discouraging for swapping up the party during my playthrough which seems like the main intent of the game. Maybe it'd be worth a second go limiting myself to only the monster girls you can find in each zone to force some more experimentation?
I wouldn't really suggest that, the postgame is where you really are able to experiment with party combinations due to being able to get monsters to level 99 easily and because of genesis stone skills giving you more options. As well as all the skill crystals you can get.

Never really tried anything from the SEQUEL series before, but kinda feel to play something rpg-makery. Does it's still stand out as a good game, if i'm not planning to jerk off to it? Like Black Souls, Lonarpg or MGQ paradox was.
>>
>>3932358
>Does it's still stand out as a good game, if i'm not planning to jerk off to it?
Very much so. There's a reason why we're on /vrpg/ in the first place.
>>
>>3932358
I started this series to jack off, but I quickly started playing with both hands. They're genuinely charming games, very good characters and world building. The story ranges from absolute kino to absolute dogshit depending on the game. Gameplay Is your standard RPGmaker stuff, but very polished and fun.
>>
>>3932282
I was spoiled on that part before finishing the game, but still feel like I'm missing the implications of what that entails for the game/series.
As an aside - trying to go pick up any of the items/companions/dialogues I missed across the game, and had a few questions off the top of my head:
1. There's a room visible from the ladder down to Lavigny with a corpse and an item - where does the door behind it connect to?
2. I can see there's an event for the ninja owl on the island, but can't seem to trigger it - do I need to finish a certain sidequest?
3. Who's the last girl I'm missing? All I know is that one of her scenes is called 'Mana Devourer' but have no idea where I should be looking - I've cleared all of the main story sidequests + miniboss fights.
>>
>>3932471
>There's a room visible from the ladder down to Lavigny with a corpse and an item - where does the door behind it connect to?
There's a gated door in the area, I think it was near the reason of wings for the upper portion of the area. Bring the oil slime
>owl spot
Bring both the owl and the snow woman
>last party member
Do you have the mimic girl and unidentified? Mimic girl's in Ainoa, she'll be hiding behind a wall when you gather everyone in the parlor. Unidentified in Signine, there's another password for the magic circle you can find if you look around again Paradise

>game good game bad talk
It's typically hard to make a game with an ensemble cast and flesh out everyone's personalities enough to the degree you care about them. Having roots closer to visual novels tend to help. Look how shallow the Fire Emblem characters are in newer iterations, pretty much relying entirely on their assigned quirk plus maybe 10 moments of dialogue through the game. You can have an exceptional story but if I care about none of the characters I won't care for any of the story meanwhile in games like this and Dragon Age: Origin I'm always looking forward to the slower moments of sitting around talking to the party.

Is it me or is the (Awake/Colony) Sheena revive a little bit messed up for the series moving forward. Every time someone dies I'm like why can't we just go grab them from the underworld again. Did I miss a decent explanation for it like maybe she dies in OoA which had stronger mana connections or something? I'm only asking because I credits rolled in Colony and I'd be fairly surprised if we don't do it again knowing all that we know.
>>
>>3933471
>Every time someone dies I'm like why can't we just go grab them from the underworld again.
This is explained later in colony's postgame. Only people that die in Palgadol get sent to the Underworld like Sheena did.
>>
>>3933471
It's been a while since I've played awake, so I could be very wrong, but from what I remember I believe the only reason that worked was because it happened in Palgadol and because of how quickly they went to go do it.
>>
>>3933474
>>3933475
Ah darn thanks, I shoulda just kept playing but I was sorting out my feelings during the credits roll. The writing's gotten a lot better! Both Auris and Shin are great characters, I'm glad hakika felt confident enough to offscreen a lot of stuff so the player could fill in the gaps themselves on both ends concurrently as they played through the science logs.
>>
>>3933477
It'll never get this good again sadly, he was possessed by a muse when he wrote Colony. There's still moments of greatness from time to time (I personally don't like Asylum as a game but I found the lore very good), but Colony was lightning in a bottle (and kinda begins to crack in the postgame in the Alzhett chapter honestly)
>>
>>3933522
That's kinda why I'd prefer the writing to return to the standard of Blight. Just give me a simple plot that lets the characters shine.
>>
>>3933522
colony is as good as it is because hakika likely had way more time to think about its plot. The game pretty obviously cannibalized whatever he had done/planned for Brand of Ronis, which began its development before even blight. I think the plots of all the games are at worst mediocre, with awake being the only I actually do consider to be only mediocre, but I feel colony shows that hakika could definitely make more intricate plots if he gave himself more time to cook. Not that I necessarily feels he needs to though, he can still make a great story within a year,
>>
>>3933414
I don't think she would, has no reason to. She wanted Ino to be there voluntary. In the first place, outside of Ordowald can mean anything, except being on the fucking world map of Ordowald.
>>
Thirst translation this spring, trust!
>>
>>3933566
I'm leaning towards the opinion of >>3933522 the hook for these games to me were cute girls funny adventure, lots of dialogue, and decent pacing on gameplay and story. I'm not opposed to a tone shift, but if you're going to try to write a story with darker themes you should do it with more nuance and I think he's successful in that regard. I just rarely see it be successful and I'd much rather have a charming story with a middling plot than the other way around. It's funny how you can see it so plainly in Colony in with Rabi purely being played as comic relief. Reminds me of getting into Priconne anime as a silly IP SoL only to get hit with a banger 2 season drama. If he returns to Blight/Awake level plot but keeps the cast loveable I'll enjoy it all the same.

Whoops. I flipped the two replies but you get the idea.
>>
>>3933623
it's no so bad, the game was pretty bleak and the tone pretty somber and tense til Rabi joined up, her rabiness helped Auris relax which as a whole broke Lestea's wall too where as emela couldn't hope to do that since she just blindly follows auris's direction. every party needs at least 1 unfettered character it's why Kludge's cast is so weak
>>
>>3933653
>every party needs at least 1 unfettered character it's why Kludge's cast is so weak
Absolutely. You also want at least one returning character, to keep the audience comfortable with the new cast members and to be a sort of audience surrogate.
>>
>>3931938
Lestea seems the most likely since she's in Thirst's postgame. If it takes place in Elcehil then I think Rabi once again is also a likely candidate.
>>
>>3933674
>>3933653
Yeah it's twofold, Emela probably should have played the comic relief role a bit better but she was mostly played for one-note lewd jokes and the "we have a monster friend" plot device. Auris also has a nice touch of light-heartedness, you can tell hakika course corrected from writing a more serious protag with Kuruha where you can still have a laugh through all of the tension. Not to mention having a decent villain. The container interaction gags didn't work into Kuruha's personality at all while it felt in character for Auris.

A happy-go-lucky character with an established backstory was for the best all things considered. Smaller casts are a little harder to write since their personalities demand more complexity whereas in a group of 7-8 you can just pull characters as needed like throwing Nazuna & Alma into the mix for a full gag skit. Dire being the tsukkomi is always my favorite bit, he's my audience surrogate more often than not.

>>3933653
How is Lusica not unfettered?

The reason Kludge's cast is weak is because there's only 2 fun characters, Kuu and Lusica, in the main party. Faria, Yolnaya and Yubeil are all whatever and Dita is actively detrimental to the banter that SEQUEL is known for.
>>
Yubeil's only flaw is that she's not equipped for anal, Lusica really dropped the ball on that.
>>
>>3933750
It was on purpose, she didn't want competition on her specialty.
>>
>>3933749
>Kludge's cast is weak
Games prior to Kludge lacked any sort of tsun archetype despite having a glut of heroines to oshikatsu from. Dita scene with her hat off mogs every Colony scene combined. Not every character needs to be an ADHDmaxxed smarrel noja memequeen.
>>
>>3933750
Hard agree. It was a real shame, there was barely any anal in kludge. Dita didn't even get any, despite have an anus licking scene.

She's a very nice girl, she just wanted to massage your balls because they work so hard. She almost won me over with how far she got from her first scene but it's unfortunate she had to exist in the same game as Maria.
>Colony
Just finished the mastery boss, surprisingly a lot less difficult than the previous games. I think the defensive options were a bit much when you can apply two different damage debuffs and three different raw defense buffs by turn 2 on top of the favored brands. Multiple HoTs also free up Emela too much to cycle stat buffs. Hopefully Saxa's dungeon has a little more sauce. Seems like they completely 180'd my complaints about Bottomless Gramtoa and now the post-game zone is just goofing off with her.
>>
>>3934493
I'd also suggest you do the Alzhett chapter too, you get a lot of good gear there that helps with Saxa's dungeon.
>>
>>3934498
Oh yeah good call, I did put that off. I think Colony made reincarnating a bit too fast between Vivid Seeds and an autoable pre-emptive aoe so I feel I overleveled the fight. I was usually reincarnation 0 until the actual uber boss in previous games.
Story spoiler question so Trau was enabling/overlooking the initial scientist who started all of the fae experimentation and Shin clone creation to control the fae because she fell in love with him? The dessicated arm was Trau's right since her model in the fight had one arm, but the pest scientist we found in the blockaded cabin asking where his arm is threw me off... I'm guessing it was because he eventually dissected Trau and had some attachment to it.

The timeline's this:
>knight left Alzhett to the seas to reflourish (Swordspear)
>knight washes ashore on Schisma and meets Trau (Flutterer)
>knight learns that his valet is also in love with with Trau and thinks of it as betrayal, so the knight kills the valet (Egoistic Man, Cane)
>faeries lock the man up in the house, but Trau releases him (Gun)
>Trau makes the knight leave Schisma, but the knight lops off her arm before leaving (Trau, One-Armed Pest).
>knight eventually returns to Schisma, becomes a pest (Gauntlet)
Trau is the original sin (Shin), and her arm is how Alzhett's folk made Shin and the clones.

What's important to also note is Trau shares Lestea's dark magic skills from her skill tree. I'll leave that to your imagination.
>>
>>3934543
Oh my god there's a details button for menu items/logs I have so much reading to do. Thanks for compiling everything, I actually missed one of the weapons. The funny part was I did feel I somewhat spoiled myself overthinking about the dark magic tree on Lestea since it seemed odd a mysterious swordsman phys attacker has a very out of place magic tree and debuffer/pestilence motif (Winds of Putrefaction) so I felt she may have carried some sort of curse when she first entered my party. I didn't expect hakika to take it all the way to the end. I think I'll choose to let the gaps in the story naturally fill themselves, what a beautiful conclusion.
>>
>>3934552
>Oh my god there's a details button for menu items/logs I have so much reading to do.
It's been there since blight. There's a LOT of lore to be found on equipment and items throughout the games. If you ever have some time to set aside and just read the descriptions on everything you can find in every game I highly recommend doing so, as you'll get a lot of insight on the plots of each game as well as just the setting in general, including stuff that'll make more sense whenever you get around to playing the Era of Myth games.

Yeah they definitely took the souls item trivia bit to heart. Just gives me a good reason to go back and play Blight's NG+ but I'd like to catch up to translations first. I'm pretty retarded thinking back on it, I figured they just found out about additional weapon/armor effects through field testing or datamines. At least I found out about this while I still have a good amount of Colony left to go through. I unfortunately can't remember where I picked everything up like this item. Was this found in the Riverside Hut? Did that knight... Ada? Ana? Who betrayed us in the beginning of the game eventually find the truth too and was she the pest we killed in there? I'm dying to remember some of the conversations that happen in the area now.

I guess in some ways I get to experience everything twice right away lol, going to grab a cup of hot cocoa and read through stuff. Thanks.
>>
>>3934583
>Did that knight... Ada? Ana? Who betrayed us in the beginning of the game eventually find the truth too and was she the pest we killed in there?
Exactly that. She went back to Schisma on her own and uncovered the whole mystery. She spent her final moments regretting doing what she did.

Honestly no. In fact, I think hakika made the right call by making Mana Tank a tan skin color instead of white. That way, pretty much anyone can enjoy the scenes.
It does make me wonder though. The existence of black women like Yolnaya and Lusica does imply that there were black men in the past, right? Yet we’ve never seen one in the series at all. Unless you want to count Clar as one.

You also may consider that skin color genes could’ve originated from monster girls crossbreeding with humans, albeit that seems unlikely. Monster girls are a relatively new thing in Ordowald, aren’t they? The monsters evolved to have feminine forms so they could get mana more easily via milking men. Such a thing only happened because of the modern mana shortage.

Nta but Pirila’s mentioned in one of the weapon descriptions from the Palgadol chapter in blight. Gotta craft it at the barbarian village.
>>
>>3934920
I swear, hakika will never stop surprising me with how often he manages sneak in little teases at stuff he plans on doing later in his games.
>>
>>3934950
Having a skeleton of where you want to go with things, even something as simple as a name here and there or a blueprint of characters goes a long way into worldbuilding since you can start vagueposting. He probably has a vault of unreleased character designs at the ready at this point.
>>
>read sub par's notes that Sheena has a verbal tic that's kind of difficult to express in english terms so the compensate for that he had her draw out some letters of her speech namely noticed in her h scenes where she's lost in lust.

What exactly does that mean? I wonder if any other characters have something like that going on

I haven’t looked at the JP version of awake at all, so maybe some other anon knows.

Unfortunately hakika made Olivia in a time before he really opened up to threesome scenes

Because of their mother-daughter relationship, there are only a few ways that it could happen without feeling forced, like a mana milking competition started over jealousy

Hollowwald progress report. The game’s getting delayed a little bit, it’s still coming out in July-August though
>>
>>3935415
Yeah high chance it may have felt cheap, but the heart wants what it wants. Maybe they could have really opened up to eachother about her being part succubus because that final development happened so late and there was barely any time to expand on it. It was almost played like a gag
>>3935400
Sexo, I think she might have been my favorite scene which was a welcome surprise so late.
>>
>>3935429
It was 100% played like a gag, she spent the entire game being racist to Emela and now it came to bite her in her plump ass.
>>
>>3935400
I still don't think he's a particular fan of threesomes. It just happens to fit in well with the sisters and lusica/yubeil. No repeat since.
>>
>>3935500
He’s said that his main problem with them is framing the scenes, he has difficulty making art with them (either PoV or just in general). Honestly I don’t blame him, it’s probably very difficult to find references for threesome positions.
>>
>>3935506
The succubus church 3P in Colony was pretty rough, made me realize it might be one of his weaker points. I think the way he progresses through a scene with CGs with a single poses makes it harder on him in general. The magical puppet scenes tend to be less interesting for me visually too, it's not very believable they're clones. He doesn't need to have a high volume of them though but sprinkling them in here and there with a bit more care would be nice. I don't think it'd kill him to at least switch poses in a multi-person scene especially when the cast is smaller.
>>
>>3935506
Well I guess he wants to keep Manatank's face hidden which limits the angles that will look good. But if you just put a girls with a fat ass (plenty to choose from) on his face then that's not an issue.
>>
>>3935529
The L.Depth threesome scenes are absolute peak though.
>>
>>3931549
Is Hollowwald another spinoff or is it a mainline game
>>
>>3935607
Nice, I'm just wrapping up the rest of Colony's post-game and it's off to asylum. Looking forward to seeing what else hakika can pull out of his hat as he checks off more and more typical 2P scenarios. The cast is getting a little big for me at this point but I'll reserve judgment when I get into the next mainline game.
>>
>>3935628
Hakika said it’s a standalone, but it should end up being a spinoff in some fashion.
>>
>>3935634
Whatever it is just hope he changes it up a bit. He’s been reusing the same FSM tilesets and core gameplay loop for over 5 years now

you didn't say we actually had to see it
>>
>>3936122
I’m still miffed we never got an h-scene for it.
>>
>>3936122
Yeah I meant "canon" as in it likely happened off screen at some point. This one was pretty direct, pretty unlikely pairing and it would have been fun just sucks no scene.
>>
>>3936127
>>3936133
That's not even likely, that's straight up confirmed. You even get the cloudy white liquid form it.
>>
Man I'm not vibing with Asylum yet. The map design feels as aimlessly soulsy and it's kinda quiet just traveling with your familiars. I wish you interacted with them more. Going to keep powering through and hopefully things get better.
>>
>>3936435
It absolutely gets better the further you get into the game. I think the worst part is just when you're meandering about after finished Albus's Tower, the game didn't really click for me until I was past the halfway point. The h-scenes also clicked for me long after I had finished the game.
>>
>>3936435
No, that's the game sadly. It's controversial for a reason. Familiars really drag it down, they're both uninteresting to hang around and boring to play. Add the aimless map design and some rather disgusting scenes on top.
I found the lore pretty cool tough, so it's not all bad.

Versa is cute, my mental voice for a deadpan girl who is resigned to her doomed fate makes me want to save her.
>>3936712
I thought the vibe with cute familiars being goofy and maybe helping out Malice in her lows would have been perfect but Malice has the personality of a cardboard cutout right now. It can't be hard to write non-dialogue mascots.
>>3936518
Yeah I'm at the end of the gaol, I'll end up finishing it.
>>
>>3936856
The familiars really should've been able to talk at least. Or emote a bit. That way, we could've had some dialogues while exploring that weren't the adventurer notes or from the Versa doll. I think how the familiars emote in their scenes is done well enough too, why couldn't we get that in the main game outside of the scenes?

Up to you to decide that. Some like Fake-Rabi, some Clar, some Kuu, and some Ino. Fake-Rabi and Ino are the most popular by far.

I really need to finish the first game so I can experience the other bois.

So far though Frabi has been top-tier.

Most do consider him to be the best, just because he got development in two games instead of just one. The others are great too though.

Actually you only get the lowdown on his lore if you marry him in blight, which the vast majority of people don't do. It's just another weird thing blight does. At least it's rectified in colony.
>>
>>3937530
If they were real, we'd be doomed as a species.
>>
>>3937554
Oh well that's good to know, I didn't bother with his last two scenes. Colony did cover everything properly like you said. Frabi is fun, I wish he had a platonic route but that would clash too much with the spirit of the game imo.

How badly will I get spoiled scrolling through Hakika's twitter I just finished Awake? I want to see all the silly art.
>>
>>3937577
I think you'll be alright if you look at the earliest SEQUEL arts on pixiv and go up the pages from there. Like so
https://www.pixiv.net/search?q=SEQUEL%20&s_mode=tag&type=artwork&p=16
The newest stuff hakika has retweeted isn't really spoilery either, I'd say
>>
>>3937592
I've always appreciated hakika sticking to smooth and mochi flatness rather than the bony spare ribs that more artists gravitate towards these days. It's just so aesthetically pleasing.

I'm still listening to the Colony OST while playing Asylum, the post-game depression is strong. Maybe I should take a little break before more SEQUEL binging. Also the rendition of My Theme from Blight feels straight out of Maplestory and is hitting some crazy nostalgia.
>>
>>3937788
Anon I think he does it because it’s easy not because he thinks it is better aesthetically

Yeah that's what prompted me to mention it in the first place, a lot of MS (and specifically ToT) BGMs are incredible so inadvertently drawing inspiration isn't out of the question, even down to the instruments. Maple music is good company to be in. His use of bass strings in a couple Colony tracks and the rendition of Rabi's theme makes me want to revisit my old playlist.

We've barely seen any men at all. That's a part of the setting, after all. Few men, and most of them locked up in houses getting fuckered everyday.
>>
>>3934754
From what I've seen on the topic Japanese people don't really think of characters as black or white racially, skin color is just part of the aesthetic of the character. I think if you watch enough anime you probably get into this mindset too. For example, you don't really feel an incongruity watching Naruto because he's a white ninja in a very Asian setting and this never gets addressed, that's just what he looks like because it's a memorable aesthetic for a shonen protagonist, and that's as far as that thought goes. His bright blonde hair wouldn't look as good from a color design perspective if he was as pale as Sasuke. Similarly, white hair makes for a striking contrast on dark skin, hence, Yolnaya.
