Was this remake any good? I didn't hear a single person talk about this game after it released. I thought the graphics looked pretty good (minus those coal-tier portraits).

Bumping cuz i wanna know if its good too
>>
>>3933631
it apparently uses the exact same mechanics and dungeon layout of the original, with the original graphics overlayed in the corner
there's nothing to really complain about but it's not like playing heart gold/soul silver or anything like that

Why would it be anything like Pokemon? wtf

Anon...?

Pokemon is single battles mostly. Plus, pokemon is a jrpg and wizardry is a dungeon crawler.

That's because it was a joke.
>>
>>3933631
also interested
and another question, is it worth the price tag?

I didn't play it but I looked at a lot of reviews and apparently it's very good. I was actually going to get this on Switch and didn't take the plunge, this thread came up so I guess it's reminding me I need to do exactly that.

I'm going to buy it, never having played a Wizardry game before. It's faithful to the old title, it just has nice graphics now, so yes play it anons. I will be playing as well.

Just play the SNES/PS1 ports.
Hate the atmosphere in this its soulless as fuck.
>>
>>3934730
With compromised mapping and less QoL? No thanks.
>>
>>3934730
I agree it's probably soulless because the original art was made with the spirit of the devs. Retouching anything is intrinsically soulless. That said the QoL MAY trump the lack of soul. It really depends what you go for more - comfort and quality of life or soul/spirit.

I meant the reception to HG/SS being considered a masterpiece and peak of the series, and better than the original games. I was saying the Wizardry remake isn't going to have a special place in fans' hearts.

>compromised mapping
Fuck are you talking about this is one of the easier versions to map in that doesn't straight up have automap.

There is much to complain about when it is nothing but a superficial splattering of make-up.
>>
>>3935323
*specifically referring to SNES here, whereas PS1 straight up has automapping but imo slightly worse art direction, nowhere near as bad as that hideous fucking bland remake though

Story of Llylgamyn, the Snes version of I, II and III is the best port of the first three wizardry as not only it features Jun Suemi's artwork but also Kentaro Haneda's soundtrack, which the psx version lacks.

It was fine BUT THERE WAS NO REASON TO NOT INCLUDE THE OTHER 2 SCENARIOS

sure there is. to sell them later.

I’ve never played a wizardry game before but I’ve played strange journey and some etrian odyssey.

It’s just an old school rpg. Grinding Murphy’s Ghost til you level up a good amount is simultaneously a requirement that trivializes the game. The final third of or so of the dungeon has nothing to offer and is a waste of time. Magic is stupidly good once you hit a certain level. There are enemies that can one shot you and rezzing is really expensive

I haven’t played it in a year so some of the details might not be totally accurate, but overall it’s cool if you want to know what it was like back in the day, but I can think of lots of games that do everything wizardry 1 does a lot better without being casualized. The game wastes a lot of your time needlessly, and from what I understand you used to have to type in the name of a spell to attack with magic in the original which, again, did nothing but take up your time for no good reason.
>>
>>3935235
That makes sense. Thank you for taking the time to clarify.
>>
>>3936232
Thanks. I probably won't play it. Have you played Persona Q? It's great. Strange Journey is GOAT though.
>>
>>3936260
Never played persona Q. The mainline SMT games are basically wizardry games, and again it was cool to see where the genre started but I’d rather play SJ or SMT 3-4 any day
>>
>>3936272
You would like Persona Q. It's Etrian but with Persona story and gimmicks. It's really good. I haven't played PQ2 yet but it also seems fantastic.

>for no good reason
The reason was it was cool (the first 100 times), immersive, and saved memory with the limited computers of the day. People tend to do things for reasons.
>>3936281
Wizardry VII is objectively better.
>>
>>3935695
Yeah OBVIOUSLY. But where's the sequel?!
>>
>>3936488
might never come, depends on sales of this vs its cost. but they wanted to leave the option.
