Where I live I have easy access to decent old tech, such as old CRTs and hardware for installation of Win XP or Win 98

I am more worried about the software side of things, I'd like to use this computer to run mostly old cRPGs such as the original Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Temple of Elemental Evil... But the software side of things concerns me

Are those ancient OG Baldur's Gate patches still around? Do modern TOEE mods even have the original hardware in mind? Some other software issues...

Has anybody tried it these days?

My guess is you'll have the most trouble with a soundcard.

I built a modern computer with a used graphics card that supports VGA. Then I used a YouTube guide to optimise GOG installations of retro games for the crt. I also play Slippi on my crt. It's fantastic.

I think you should be fine with Co8, but modern versions of Temple+ are upgraded to run on DirectX 11. So I suggest to try with pre-DX11 versions of Temple+ (1.0.13 or older).

Just get a chink industrial mini pc, many of them come with vga and sound, no reason to bother dealing with ancient hardware in that regard.

You can plug the CRT to a modern PC, run Dosbox or PCem and have the same results. Mostly.
