This game is extremely underrated, if you like JRPG's that give you a lot of freedom like DQ3 you'll love this one

Metal Saga is the worst non-Xeno game but it's still pretty good. Incredible world map theme too.
>>
I liked it but the balancing is so fucked in this game

>world maps lets you access several areas at once
>try the area to the west
>strong enemies
>win a mere 3-4 fights
>turns out you were supposed to go to the east area first, go there now
>You're now overleveled to the point that enemies in that east area don't even deal a single point of damage
>>
It's a remake of Metal Max, it's not that deep.
>>
Inventory management is fucked, especially if you actually use protectors.
>>
>>3933691
It's my favorite in the franchise (assuming you count it as a Metal Max game,) but I might would feel differently if it wasn't the first one I played.

As flawed as it was, I think I might have still enjoyed Xeno a bit more than 3. 3 really didn't do much for me for some reason.
>>
Liked this one, all metal max games are great too(except for xeno reborn and ds saga)
Shame about new one, seems like it's cancelled
>>
>>3933681
I put about 20 hours into it and liked what I played kinda forgot about it though

Reinterpretation
>>
>>3933983
The artstyle is way different in xeno and ds versions
>>
>>3933681
Game is good but Metal Max 3 and 2r are the best games in the franchise by a large mile.
>>3933691
The Metal Saga spinoff for the DS is way worse. Also there is the unsettled question of which Xeno is worse? I rank them equivalent as they're both odious in their own, special ways.

Nah, Hagane no Kizetsu exists as well and boy that's a bad game.
My only issue with Metal Saga outside of typical problems that games of the time have is that it's kinda disappointing coming from Returns, it's not really the major step up it should have been, that and the classes being actual OG donutsteel characters rather than generics, through the years I came to realize that's the big red flag for Metal Max, when you have donutsteels there's a considerable chance the game has problems, only MM2R and MM4 (sort of) are exceptions to this.
The whole Sons of NOA storyline and continuity with the first MM is also kinda cringe in retrospect, imo it diminishes the significance and impact of the first game in the lore.

Afaik Metal Dogs did well. I think we'll see something come out of this soon, and hopefully not some mobileshit.

I am the only one who likes Xeno Reborn
Would like to try the original one day to get the full story
>>
>>3934290
What's keeping you from playing Xeno?
>>
>>3934614
No PS4

I recently bought a ps4 but it died already

btw https://store.steampowered.com/app/3848180/_/ came out (buggy Chinese 3d MM fangame) and https://store.steampowered.com/app/3338560/Metal_Hunter/ ( Jap 2d MM fangame) is coming out in March
Both are free

>MMX and MM2 but with no budget
Why though? I don't understand why anyone would play a worse version of the thing we already have
>>
There are a lot of old Japanese games getting modern remasters and ports now, many of them being released globally for the first time. I think Cygames would be smart to do a MM collection to build a little awareness of the brand before their next entry
>>
>>3933693
thats the appeal of metal max games though

one of the bosses is a VW I love this game
>>
>>3934961
I utterly fail to see how that would have you playing Reborn.
>>
>>3933693
Who cares. The whole point of RPG's is to get stronger and feel like you're making progress over the enemy.
>>
What's the best game to start with if I want to give this series a try?
>>
>>3936211
I tried the PC one btw but read it was gutted

Stop ruining games for yourself before you even try it

>>
>>3936238
Okay, your loss bud.
>>
>>3936211
The first one on Famicom. DS babies will get offended and say 2Reloaded though.
>>
>>3936249
This nigger lying. He didn't play that shit on FC, just a poser
>>
>>3933693
Baka gaijin.
How do you read, nigga? Oh, you're a filthy foreigner, so you read wrong. Right to left, east to west. Start on the east in JP games.
>>
>>3936290
If that were the case, you would actually go south from the start, then go west, then go to the extra map to the east, bakaface
>>
Just a reminder that there were also several MM clones of the Zoids franchise made for handhelds
>>
>>3936308
Zoids Saga is nothing at all like Metal Max.
>>
>>3936249
Only retards suggest the pinnacle of the series as an introduction.
>>
>>3936251
I've played more FC RPGs than you know exist

>>3936336
It makes sense to start with the first one, not my or the game's fault console JRPGs went downhill after the Famicom
>>
>>3936211
Metal Max Returns.
>>
>>3933978
NTA but I just seriously hate all PS1 and PS2 era games that break up a dungeon into tiny rooms divided by loading screen doors. Ever since I noticed how they irritate me (because they cause a lack of a sense of orientation or space) in some game I was playing I notice every game that does it. At the time it seemed like a relatively minor limitation caused by 3D enviornments + disc media but man I can't play them anymore. Prerendered background games feel much better, probably because they generally mask the disorientation with filmic camera angles and environments that have a lot more to them than early 3D could have.
>>
Has anyone translated the original MM2 on SFC yet
>>

>At the time it seemed like a relatively minor limitation caused by 3D enviornments + disc media but man I can't play them anymore.
That’s literally what it is, though. Constraint of the hardware at the time. Yes, it is annoying when that constraint is no longer relevant, but that is why it was that way.
>>
>>3936992
This
>>
>>3937074
How the fuck do you get disoriented? 99.9% of the time you enter a door from the west and come out the east side of the next screen
>>
>>3937342
Obviously on a concrete finding-my-way-around level it's not a big deal, since it basically reduces it to a graph paper maze. I mean on an aesthetic level where my brain is subconsciously trying to picture what the space is like and it's just a bunch of jigsaw rooms floating in a black void.
>>
>>3937075
No, but Reloaded has been for 8 years now.
>>
>>3937364
Yeah I love it to the point I'd like to play the original version too
>>
>>3937371
I think the original may have a translation, not sure
>>
>>3937384
>>3937075
No, it doesn't, it's basically abandonned at this point. I bet if you come in and pretend you're doing your own translation and fake some convincing screenshots that will get them to finish it.

also AI translation doesn't even work well with this game due to how the text is embedded into a menu with other text and due to how small the font is. That's how I played it though.
>>
>>3937349
..... When remembering where the bathroom is in an office, do you need to mentally render the stairs, elevator, parking lot, lobby, etc?
>>
Metal Max 4 translation soon surely
>>

>Obviously on a concrete finding-my-way-around level it's not a big deal,
don't be a bitchy fag.
>>
>>3937663
Says the guy literally bitching about that. "Oh no, the screen isn't an unreadable mess of that doesn't differentiate between the interactable and the noninteractable space to avoid showing any black space"
>>
>>3937664
I don't know why you want to act like a bitch despite me pointing out you were going down a bitch path
>>
I hope the next one uses the XR rtwp combat
>>
Xeno or Reborn
>>
anyone know the status of a MM2 translation if theres one? I tried playing 2R but the aesthetic change coming from MM1 really threw me off, I dont mind waiting for a tl or until I finally stop being a lazy retard and just learn japanese to play it.
>>
>>3937848
There's none
Most likely nobody is going to pick it up either
It's too much work with only a few autistic spergs who care about it
>>
>>3937848
https://aeongenesis.net/projects/mm2

It's been at "20% completion" for like 10-15 years at this point. It will never be done.
>>
>>3937706
Ideally neither
