I really enjoyed the game when I played it couple of years ago. But I never managed to fully beat it, I got to the final part where you gather up everyone to fight the final boss, and I did, then just ran out of steam.

Do you still need to avoid looting in the Oersted chapter for the remake? I remember thinking that was stupid.

The personal stories are better than the big final one anyway. I think a lot of them have traps in them that trick you into thinking you need to farm the shit out of them (or otherwise play in a tedious way) when in reality it's pointless after like 5 minutes in the combined chapter, and that can take some wind out of your sails

This is one of my fav old jarpigs that i really want to see a sequel but part of me thinks current squenix has 0 chance to do it properly
Wish some indie devs take a look at this game and make something like it instead of another indie game inspired by old FF #763

At least he had the balls to kill his weak ass friend instead of running away crying like average ntr protags

You play as several people, you cant really determine who's the "real" MC.
However, truly spoilers for the game:You choose the final character to play as for the final chapter. You get few bonus scenes at the end depending on who you chose, so technically you can just choose whoever you want to be "you" since you can just pick them for the final sections.
But I really recommend just going with either custom names for everyone or default names, this is the kind of game where that adds up to the experience.

So graphics aside how was the remake? It's always hard to get a read on this since so few played the original.

Pretty good. Even people who love the original like me, will fully admit it was filled to the brim with flaws because it was a B-project by the team in-between working on Chrono Trigger. The remake is basically the same game but isn't using FF4 graphics anymore and is a little less frustrating for reasons I listed below.

>generally easier
It's "easier" in that it will actually tell you shit like what element an enemy is weak to, how much damage moves actually do, etc instead of hiding all that information. That is actually way more important than the QOL stuff that was added.
Regardless, some fights are still complete bullshit where even if you know exactly what to do, there's RNG involved to win like the King Mammoth.

I think it is way better than the original, might be closer to the original vision for the game if it wasn't in a weak cartridge.

I think they should have added info on what stats each attack uses and maybe the ability to see the element of enemy attacks. The game is still easy for the most part if you know what to do.

Having to ditch near future anime protagonist man's accessories to equip him properly is a bit of a flaw. Actually maybe the remake changed that, I don't remember
Either way just two of the better offensive ones like the monk and cowboy are probably enough anyway

I have never seen anyone that doesn't take Cube for the final party, he's just that good.

In the remake you get to keep all of your inventory and not just the equipment so you can keep Akira with his normal equipment and also keep the robot accesories. You do lose any items equipped on Matsu or Taro and all of your robotic enhancements.
