hey i'm new, i watched a couple youtube playthroughs but they were old. i picked romania but i noticed they have a weird unique focus tree. i looked it up and apparently all the dlc adds tons of focus trees (i have all the dlc). do i need to turn off a specific dlc to use the generic focus tree or is there just an option to use the generic tree without losing whatever other new game mechanics the dlc adds?

1. A few dlcs have been integrated into the base game and be disabled, the one that adds Romania's (outdated in comparison) focus tree is among them. You can't turn it off. Use a more up-to-date tutorial.
2. You should probably turn off all the dlc you can regardless, less mechanics = easier to learn, when you get the hang of the basics and win a game or two, feel free to enable them.

There's Palpatine's Gamble, the Star Wars mod, but it's out of date and unless you like playing the navy game you probably won't like it.
Pax Britannica is absolute peak but it's got a tiny dev team, sparse content (though what they do have is really good) and is also not updated to the current version, although it's more recent than the former.

Pax also has an amazingly atmospheric music mod too. Atmosphere and immersion is what it does best.
