i got it on sale and beat it yesterday
why was /vst/ bashing it so hard when it came out? it's a great sequel to ja2

It has some very minor hints of having been infected by the culture war, but ultimately it's just the general stink of the zeitgeist we're in.
But those whiffs were enough to drive some people mad.
I don't even blame them, the pattern of giving the devil your little finger has plagued media for a decade now. And the "disclaimer" at game start really sets off the alarms.
I want to like the game, but the time limited quests and the awkward way the game progression is partly gated behind metaknowledge was a really dumb move design wise. The refugee camp, biff/diamond, the major and ESPECIALLY THE FUCKING RABIES QUEST are LITERAL FUCKING AIDS. What the fuck were they thinking?
Other than that it's a good game and the only game apart from 1 and 2 (deadly games is basically bite-sized ja1 missions) that deserves to be mentioned in the franchise. I'll give it 7.8.
I can see it in theory to get modded close to a 9, but I doubt we'll ever see that.

the gates/triggers are especially bad since they can actually punish you for advancing fast, while for the sake of training militia/mercs, healing, crafting etc. shit that takes time; the game should punish you for turtling if anything
the way they implemented those quests makes you essentially maybe stumble to good quest results purely by luck while you can get locked out of many of the best results for advancing at a rapid pace or from the wrong direction
still makes me mad

Is this game good? The reviews don't look promising.

Like what? Genuinely asking. It was probably one of the least politically correct non-shitpost games in a long while. The disclaimer is there for that very reason, it's subtly telling the people who believe in trigger warnings that if they don't leave they're gonna get triggered. They're explicitly saying they're not holding their blows and keeping it just like the 90s games.

all i can think of is the righteousness with which you are supposed feel when you punish the whore abusers
also when steroid says that Kalena is so good because she is ukranian instead of russian
and of course muh nazis but what game doesn't have that?
>>
>>2327082
>with
delet that

This game lets me shoot commies, nazis, corpos and thirdies.
I see it as a win.
>but some characters are women
Yeah. And?
>but some characters are gay.
So fucking what?
>but some characters are no longer 80's action movie tough guys like in previous games.
Still plenty of those.
>>

>also when steroid says that Kalena is so good because she is ukranian instead of russian
That's not a stance on ziggers and the four year long special operation though, that's just Steroid being Steroid. Part of his character is a joke about the Polish hating Russians over anything else in the world. He would refuse to join in JA2 if you had either of the Dolviches on the team and had quotes ranting about Russia back then as well. Was /v/pol/ seriously bothered by this?
>>
>>2327437
Chuds don't play games for enjoyment, they do it to play wokie amoogus and use this site as the meeting place.

I was bothered by all the guns having nonsensical wrong calibers

The humour and tone doesn't really match 2 in quality. Besides that it's a bit janky(consoleized?) and less impressive than 2 but overall it was pretty good. I think people just expect too much of jagged alliance, this is about as good as a modern JA game can be considering the way the vidya market is.
>>
>>2337510
We went from “Tons of guns!” to half of the guns having nonsensical wrong calibers
>>

>giving trigger warning fags a trigger warning to own the trigger warning fags
uhuh
>>
>>2337522
I don't mind the calibers, but I hate how they implemented the burst/auto damage balancing.
The cost should be accuracy and resources in the form of condition% and ammo, not suddenly having the same bullets do less damage when fired in burst/auto. If you have the investments in gun quality, ammo count and a merc who can hit with auto then you should be rewarded for it. Like in JA2.
I'm also not a fan of how the upgrades are tied to singular guns are are lost if you change them. Also should have been done more like in JA2.
Actually most of the bad choices would be fixed with this same formula; make it like it was in JA2 (or 1.13 if you want extra points).

>uh that gun fires .223 remington not 5.56 nato
>>
>>2337580
>>uh that gun fires .223 remington not 5.56 nato
That would be a very minor nitpick. Things like the Beretta firing .44, the AK-47 and AK-74 sharing the same round, or the G98 and MG42 firing 7.62x51 are just silly.
>>
>>2338989
they wanted to add iconic guns but not all of the special snowflake calibres because that would have made inventory management even more of a chore
i'm sure some autistic gunfag has fixed it through a mod by now

I played it just after release *no bobby rays), there's not been a ton of new content but I completed it again last month and it's a good game, satisfying to play. Like others said missions triggering and you missing out on stuff or being rushed all of a sudden really sucks, map is alright but I feel the bottom right corner is wasted and all the best shit happens in the first desert bit
>>2340043
There is a mod that adds all that shit and its pretty good, but I can understand why the devs streamlined it all.
>>2323486
>mods
There aren't a ton of mods which is a shame, the tools are there but I don't think anyone likes the game enough to go full autism and make a new campaign for it. I made a Alan Partridge merc and getting it even semi working took a lot longer than I would like to admit

Jag 3 shows a realistic post colonial African country, its full of violent, superstitious, impoverished black Africans who take pleasure in enslaving, imprisoning, stealing and killing each other. You come in as a group of mostly white Americans/Europeans and kill them by the boat load. Most of the competent NPCs are white.
