>proceeds to sit in the corner of the map doing absolutely nothing on speed 5
>wow this is boring but like... I recommend it...
Can someone explain the "playing tall" phenomenon in the paradox community? You don't see total war players booting medieval 2 to sit on the British Isles as England for 300 years then posting their "campaign" (autoclicker on the end turn button) here, on youtube or reddit. But paradrones seem in love with the idea of not engaging with the game they're supposed to be playing and pretending that it's somehow a more sophisticated way to go about life.

And no, this isn't a reddit or YouTube thing, I've seen people here post shit like this for years. Just look up "playing tall" in an archive if you don't believe me.

But the people that sit at the corner of the map at speed 5 "playing tall" in paradox games don't?

If you're not playing multiplayer, you make your own fun by roleplaying, handicapping yourself or testing limits of whatever mechanic piques your interest after you've figured out how the game works.

It's still just numbers masturbation.
You make your province number go up, or your development number go up, being the primary examples.
Some people really like it when their discipline number goes up.
Even before Eu4 was released, so 14 years ago, people were bored of people posting their ebin germanium blobs.
We get it, you can expand a little bit more than historically, everyone else has already did a world conquest a decade ago.

Paradox "games" are messes of disfunctional systems that don't cause anything interesting to happen, so they sell DLC that scripts specific events to happen because without random wacky events literally nothing happens. The only "gameplay" is to stack +1.5% bonuses until number very big, a satisfying experience for troons and autists

He stays in the corner of the map because otherwise would nullify the challenge. If you start in Siberia the optimal route is to expand and relocate your capital to anywhere besides Siberia.

playing tall in EU is fine
it's basically role-playing. you didnt have every country on earth try to conquer as much as humanly possibe. smaller countries influenced the world through technology, trade, culture.

playing tall in CK is a meme because a) the systems around it are mind-numbingly boring and b) medieval lords kind of did try to grab whatever land and titles they could possibly get, these dynasties invented border gore and disjointed empires

> I was GAY in CK3 and it RAPED me

> I played as a WOMEN in INDIA and I SHAT my PANTS

God I hate these stupid youtube clickbait titles

>medieval lords kind of did try to grab whatever land and titles they could possibly get, these dynasties invented border gore and disjointed empires
Not necessarily true. The motivations of conquest are complicated. No conquest was risk-free, and few conquests were profitable.
>>
>>2334038
I'm not talking about conquest. The Habsburgs didnt end up in Spain and Netherlands by force.
>>
>>2333948
CK3 was designed as a meme game first to maximise sales.
>>
>>2334039
I guess you didn't, my bad.
But I don't get your point.
>>
>>2334066
my point is both from a gameplay and from a roleplay perspective, playing tall is stupid in ck3

I hate the permafrost modifier it ruined that part of the world for me there isn't even any permafrost there. Worse than that is that Tribes of the North blocks adopting feudalism for no reason. I want my Permic kingdom and fight off Turkic nomads.

Playing tall is not a speed 5 activity in eu4 unless you're bad. You should be constantly going to war for money/show strength mana to fund your developing
>>
>>2335077
also important to burn your neighbours down so they don't outgrow you, never be chill always meddle
>>
>>2333947
tall in eu4 is braindead awful
you literally just sit there and wait for mana
in eu5 it is better which is why eu5 is a huge improvement

Blobbing is not fun anyway, and not generally historically accurate in most cases. And finally, CK2 was fun for dynasty autism, roleplay, not map painting or spreadsheets.
>>
>>2333360
Cucking your rivals is much more fun than the 'playing tall' meme.
>>
im gonna bloooooooooooob aaaaahhhhh
>>
>>2335758
You're supposed to play as the nations where it is historically accurate
>>
>>2335758
>Blobbing is not fun anyway, and not generally historically accurate in most cases
For me, it's historical roleplaying blobbing
>>
>>2333360
Turning a historical shithole into a relevant nation is half the appeal of paradox games
Sometimes that means speed 5ing while numbers go up

This kind of autistic or le wacky self contained video is the only thing that gives view to paraslop nowadays, people got bored of the old 40 part count to emperor playthroughs
>>

>and not generally historically accurate in most cases
Yes. In most Paradox games, AI is programmed to follow the least resistance.
This is most evident in CK2/3's Byzantines:
Historically, Byzantines spent most of their resources fighting the Arabs for 400 years, trying to reclaim the Levant
Well, why did they do that? They did that because the Levant was:
>former territory
>rich
>highly urbanized
>full of Christians
>was being used as a base to attack Anatolia
They did this even though Arabs fortified the region and made it very hard to make gains.

In the game:
>Byzantines and Abbasid Caliphate never fight, because AI avoids opponents that are of the same strength
>Instead, the Byzantines conquer Ukraine because the enemies there are weakest
Historical Byzantines would have had zero reasons to conquer piss-poor north full of foreigners.

Playing tall Netherlands is fun.

Holland being as developed and rich as it is in ck3 is fucking retarded. It was a literal marshland for most of the middle ages and was involved in a war with the native bogdwellers for 99% of its existence until it was incorporated into the Burgundian Netherlands. And even then it only became anything because of the immigrants from the south after the Spanish got a little rapey down there.
>>

>most of the middle ages
Only first half. Its population quadrupled within 200 years.
By 1300 it was one of the most densely populated areas of Europe.

not possible with Paradox games since in order to play a game "tall" it needs actual mechanics that require some brain power and ways to build up your system. Something Paradox games lack by a lot. So playing "tall" in these games is simply a completly wrong term and not possible
>>
>>2337248
Fine then, I'll do it.

I always thought playing tall just meant biding your time, building up trade and tech, stockpiling resources and manpower, before suddenly splurging on a modern army and unleashing Hell on your neighbors in a sudden unprovoked blitzkrieg. Betraying long standing allies, crushing harmless little peaceful nations and then gloating, giggling, dancing a little jig, as your enemies beg for mercy before you mercilessly cut them down in droves with your technologically advanced weaponry and vastly superior morale, disciple, and training.
Wait, so some people play "tall" and never do that? That's incomprehensibly fucking retarded. Such people need to be sterilized with a blunt butter knife, for the sake of Humanity.

A huge number of paradox players are barely functional retards. Being retards they hear about these "grand strategy" games and thinking they are the next Erich von Manstein buy the game with their mom's credit card.
But the problem is this. They are too fucking stupid to engage with the game, let alone have any clue how to win. Even though paradox games are fundamentally quite simple.
However fortunately for them Paradox built in "retard pacifiers" for their retard customers. Enabling even the most moronic chuckle fuck to sit in a corner and do nothing for the duration of a game. The spud heads latched onto this like a jeet to a white woman's nipple and called it "playing tall", thereby convincing themselves that their inability to properly dress themselves in the morning was simply due to them focusing on far more important matters. Such as sucking on their Paradox retard pacifier for all day every day.
Think of it as a public service. If it were not for paradox retard pacifiers then these same retards would be doing stuff like chasing after car wheels.

One of the most fun games of Rome 1 total war I ever had was turtling on Britain and harassing the 3 Roman blobs by sea like some kind of Celtic vikang.

You can become pretty powerful in total war by just conquering 3 or 4 cities and defending them with a few really good high quality armies because you have less land to defend and also the AI is retarded af.
>>
>>2352927
You sound kind of upset. Did a Paradox dev ask you to fuck his wife or something?
