I've been playing this game:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2275300/Folk_Emerging/
And in a nutshell it's Civilization set in the stone age up to the early bronze era. Staring as hunter-gathering tribe and advancing into either settled down farmers or nomadic pastorals. This said it's quite different from Civilization, most apparent it has a smaller scale. Not just in term of eras but also size of your "civilization". Each person of your population has name and stats, each can get sick, wounded, participate in events or get assigned higher role. When you're foraging you get to choose specific species to hunt/gather and you might even fuck up ecosystem by taking too much. Buildings actually stay on the map and you can abandon them. Pretty fun game. Although I'm not quite the fan of auto-battler combat.

Might as well post it here as well, since it's Resident Evil if Resident Evil was turn-based tatical game

Pistol is the most useful in fighting zombies for obvious reasons but you get barely any ammo. You can do headshots that cost more AP but do more damage or aim at the legs for a chance to immobilize zombie for a turn. Get pretty heat up when you stumble on a cluster of zombies.

Playing Tabletop Tavern at the moment. Pretty fun if you like total war (in particular Warhammer TW) and roguelikes. Basically just the same as SOVL but real time rather than turn based. I could see it being fun for a while.

Down with the Ship
It's a backpack battles style autobattler, but with a space theme instead of gay tranime girls.
Here's some fag on youtube reviewing it

Pretty poor showing so far. I've played about 8, and they've all felt really simple and copy something popular poorly without really adding much. Nothing else is really jumping out to me. I'll wait to see if other people can unearth some gems.

I've always wanted to play the boardgame, but it feels kind of pointless in digital format. I always wanted to play it because it seemed like a space 4x in physical form, but as a video game, why wouldn't I just play a space 4x.

Only /vst/ related demo i tried is Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes https://store.steampowered.com/app/4268760/Battlestar_Galactica_Scatte red_Hopes_Demo/
It's a refined version of the devs' previous game (Crying Suns) with better combat, lot of subsystems, various factions aboard your ships that you have to content without giving them too much power
It seems nice

imo digital only makes sense for needlessly fiddly board games like Through the Ages that benefit massively from automating all the pieces. GMT's Mr. President will probably be the same, once it leaves early access.

It does make a lot of sense for board games to be digital, I agree. It's just the unique situation with TI for me is that I wanted to play it because it looked like video games I like. So just doesn't feel like much reason to try play it instead of those games.

the best part about crying suns was the setting and the soundtrack, the atmosphere in general. the gameplay was meh and easily broken. by comparison this looks fairly bland in terms of presentation, but the gimmick about surviving for a couple of minutes and then jumping away has potential. idk if i trust them to deliver good enough gameplay though. i might check it out when i'm home.

tried sudden strike 5, seems interesting but once again insane GPU usage, performance seems to a common issue with other people
how are the other games in the series? might give them a try

Ashes of the Singularity II
The game is still very early, but I liked the demo. You need to capture sectors with your units; the more sectors you have, more resources you hace and therefore bigger is your army, the usual stuff.
What I liked about the game is that guerrilla warfare works. You can infiltrate a group of scouts into an unprotected sector and capture it. You won't be able to use it because you're surrounded and you won't have energy, but when you capture it, all the enemy buildings are destroyed.
This forces you to divide your armies and decide where to deploy them. A massive army is powerful but would allow several guerrilla groups to sneak into your rear. Several small combat groups give you a lot of flexibility but are easily wiped out.
You can try to rush the enemy base with a massive army or play guerrilla warfare while trying to wear down your enemy, in general it's a bit of both .
The bad thing is that it's a beta version, and it shows. Sometimes the AI seems to have a crystal ball, other times it sends waves of troops to certain death. It needs optimization, especially when you have large armies, and the demo doesn't have online, so you can only play against the AI, but it's still a game to keep in mind.
