>>Concerning Hoomans - Courtship and Intimacy
The universal sign of initial interest among Hoomans is a phenomenon known as "getting lost", characterized by extensive amounts of continuous watching, even when others call out to the Hooman to get its attention. An infatuated couple can waste an entire day simply looking into each other's eyes, getting absolutely nothing done and even skipping meals and other duties. Any parents teaching their single-feather Hooties the family trades who notice them getting lost are held professionally responsible for any damages caused during this time, leading them to take physical action to snap their Hooties out of that state. Fully-fledged Hoomans lack a parental buffer, and so are expected to find a Hoot to date from a different profession for the sake of their job security.
Getting lost itself is not the only aspect of Hooman romance that proves to be very time-consuming. Dates are typically all-day affairs, with the couple engaging in multiple various activities. Said activities also take longer together than individually on average as the two lovebirds do various things that cause them to slow down in subtle ways.
Perhaps the most infamous instance of Hooman romance taking up more time than normal is intercourse. One thing foreigners who managed to approach a Hooman (male or female) for such an encounter have largely mentioned afterward that the Hooman in question was "never satisfied," regardless of how "drained/exhaused" they themselves were afterward. This is corroborated with the notorious 600 Hours survey conducted in O.R. 76 which found that the average Hooman marriage's honeymoon lasted 25 days on average and did not involve travel most of the time. Many a Hooman who talks about 600 Hours jokes that the numbers were lowballed on account of the fact that the survey was conducted during the Sugar Rush, a period that saw an unusual amount of marriages get annulled early only for the couples to remarry.
As for what happens in the bedroom, let it be known to never "let it out" in a Femhooman's chest fluff. Aside from that warning as well as the well-documented endurance, multiple sources have stated that Hooman tastes on this matter are "vanilla" for the most part, with experimental foreigners expressing disappointment in testimonials they don't do more with their disproportionately long legs. Just keep in mind that your partner will keep both eyes on you for as long as possible, regardless of position. 180 degree neck rotation allows for a couple to get lost, even in bed.
__________
I will not be answering any questions that have to do with Hooman reproduction. You may make whatever interpretations you wish on that matter.
109646457
Personally been weighing whether to retcon /who/'s numbering system to roman numerals for just dates (so 3/14/11 becomes III/IV/XI, for example) or if I should apply that to all numerals in all Viti /who/ documents (180 becomes CLXXX in the final paragraph of the above lore piece). Field Report URL will remain the same in this case, unless requested otherwise.
On a more tangible level, I'm starting to regret placing /who/ so far away from /awat/. I've been in the mood recently to do some map stuff and one look at it shows that a hypothetical "Kippu Road" (land) trade route between the two might be more trouble than it's worth. Ah well, sometimes things pan out and sometimes they don't.
As for constellations, I've been weighing whether to represent the Architects with a constellation of Pierce Brosnan (image would be provided by /ag/) or of the stone age "Venus figure". Will probably approach them with that offer/suggestion tomorrow.
Project's downtime has given me time to think about stuff. I like it!

/awat/ is know for its trains, so maybe there's some cross-continental rail network, though that's a mighty long distance of unknown lands for that to be going through.
Did the nation enjoy Nimi's concert?
>>

I guess the best I can do is write posts here for lore for now. Things are going to get busy in the spring again. I'm hitting a block again. I could use a topic.
>>
>>109673430
I'm not good at writing big events. My writing style doesn't lend itself to selling events like that as I don't consciously embellish stuff. Maybe in the future I could find the words to do it justice, but for now I suppose the most I can confidently say about the immediate in-world reaction among Hoomanity was celebration and revelry, as well as a temporary moratorium on the ban of works depicting imagery of the Pink One on the condition that Nimi (or whatever the world's name for her is) is featured with equal or greater prominence in such works. Many bakers also left out loaves of bread that night.
The fact that the pink orca was what appeared carries an interesting implication or two. Ignoring the obvious fact that it helps sell the connection between the Pink One, She Who Was Here Before, and orcas in the context of the setting, there's also the matter of what it could mean for the v-fluke orca populations. It isn't my place to dictate what goes on in foreign waters, but perhaps v-flukes have a migratory pattern from the Sea of Scotos to whatever the upper arrow in picrel points to. Worth noting that picrel was made with ship/boat travel in mind, where proximity to land is important. Natively marine life doesn't need nearly as many twists and turns. One hangup with this idea is that the distance may be a bit much, but whales have been reported to migrate in the upper four-digit kilometer range on a regular basis so depending on the scale this may be feasible. There's also the matter of how Hoomans could come to learn this given their lack of large vessels, but that could hypothetically be explained away by corroborating accounts of orcas seen in that gulf from the days of the Republic and putting two and two together.
That also leaves me wondering: has anyone written anything about puffins in Viti? I get the feeling that whatever Nimi's concert correlates to in Viti had a significant impact on their population. I'd be down to mention a large flock of them traveled through /who/ at least with no reported casualties on their or the Hoomans' end.

>>
>>109678975
Loreli has the archive but we're popular as an airship pit stop. I suppose we trade local fish and shellfish for other essentials. We do have the Aerodome for landing and repairs if you don't mind second hand ship parts.

I guess we can have a junkyard for retired ships. Would be a good source of firewood.

Network is back. What's your opinion about an island village made from broken ships and airships?
>>
>>109685197

>>
>>109686108
Kind of. Lorelei is infamous for floatsam due to underwater crags. Ships get too close to the island, hit a crag, and then sink. So we use the wood from hulls of broken ships to build housing. Except nowdays we use decomissioned airship hulls nobody wants. Just a thought.
>>
>>109685197
>>109686679
I like the idea! If it's not built super well it runs the risk of looking like a slum, but then again Hoomans are using rubble to make an intranational road system so I'm not in any position to judge. In fact, it could even have its own charm!
Besides the obvious residents of Baker-chan and workers from the pub and the tunnel, who do you think would live there? Would anyone aside from the above stay there long-term? I wonder how feasible it would be to make that village into a resort if enough people visit for vacation. What are some things visitors to Lorelei could do as recreation?
>>
>>109690017
I don't know how fancy we can get with floatsam alone. But there's a lot you can do with a boat as shelter when placed upside down. Unless the ship is rotten a shipwreck is a pretty good place to camp. Perhaps the first settlers used shipwrecks as shelter waiting for rescues to arrive. Only for the rescuers to wreck their ships on the crag.

So... I have a question for anyone in here who has any culinary expertise. Let's say, hypothetically, that there's a nation of people who have outlawed domestication of all birds. As a result, there are no chicken farms which in turn means there isn't a generally consistent and reliable source of eggs. What the most obvious implications this would have for the food the people of that nation make and eat? Again, hypothetically.
>>
>>109718745
Lizard eggs are an option. I'd say dinosaur eggs but those are just bird eggs. And birds are related to dinosaurs.

As for no eggs you lose out on a lot of baking and puddings. Also you're more reliant on red meat and fish for protein. Cooking is a lot more paleo with toasted grains, red meats, and vegetables. You still have breads, potatoes, and berries at least for comfort food.
>>
>>109718745
Egg are pretty important food source in many countries, but by no means irreplaceable. The main thing they do is provide a source of relatively cheap high quality protein, so you might want to think about whether your population ended up leaning on something else for that purpose since in agricultural societies eating meat soon becomes rarer than not for most of the population. Maybe there's some high protein fictional vegetable around that can help fill that gap, similar to how onions beans do in eastern asia. If you have cows, cheese and other whey products could also fill that role. Also in recipes eggs usually act as a great binder or thickener for custards and such, so you might quickly develop using refined starches (like tapioca or rice starch) for those purposes.
>>
>>109718745
/awat/ is known for eating its own eggs as a way of population control

>>109721054
Pigs and chickens are out of the question food-wise, so there's just cattle and whatever else there may be. Is sheep mutton used in anything particularly special? Or I could just go all in on cows for livestock, that could work too.
>>109718983
Hmm... All birds are dinosaurs, but not all dinosaurs are birds. That being said, there never were any non-avian dinosaurs that were posted in /who/ with any regularity so there's no chance for "farmable dinosaur" specbio. Of the species that did exist, it is speculated that sauropods (aka the long-necked guys) had large clutches of eggs, so maybe they could be livestock? They seemed like they weren't too picky as long as there were leaves for them to browse, so Brachiosaur farms would likely be focused more on horticulture than agriculture. I can't help but wonder what the needed acreage would be for them, however...
As for their meat, there's evidence that sauropod meat (from Jurassic North America, at least) was very tough, as it was common for the Allosaurs that preyed on them to develop infections in their feet from them raking the long-dead sauropod flesh with them in attempts to make them more digestible. This could have been because the teeth of Allosaurus were relatively small so as to give them a wider gape to make it easier for them to bite down on an Apatosaurus's neck and strangle it, but I get the feeling Hoomans would have more trouble with tough meat. This is ignoring the fact that some species are confirmed to have had osteoderms in life, which itself would likely make things even more troublesome on that front. If Hoomans do have ways to tenderize the flesh of even a "small" sauropod measuring only about 9 feet long (Magyarosaurus gizzard stew, anyone?), it could likely provide a great deal of food for a community at least.
>>109722952
Do you have good preservation methods, and if so would you happen to be willing to sell some surplus eggs to /who/? Not sure if the sauropod ranch idea has any legs, and even if it does it's always good to have some variety. Of course, there should be things Hoomans could offer in return. Luxury items in /who/ include amber and onyx jewelry, and pull-cord dolls and hymn boxes (think jukeboxes) are the products that industrial Hoomans are perhaps the most proud of. If none of these interest you, there is always the possibility /who/ may be able to fill in for a staple or necessity that's in short supply over in /awat/. Is there anything that might be lacking over there?

You know I never really thought about the idea of selling the eggs when I wrote about population control. I mostly thought about it because I knew gators lay a lot of eggs

>>
>>109727505
There were "small" (10 feet long) sauropods, but they generally got that way due to island dwarfism. There is an island just outside of /who/'s borders but I doubt there would have been ships to properly transport them to the mainland even in the days of the Republic. And given that Hoomans migrated to what is now /who/ rather than having been there since time immemorial while the previous residents of the territory relied on seafood, it's extremely unlikely that any sauropods were bred to a Magyarosaurus-esque size. Also, though sauropods seem to at least reasonably fit the domestication criteria described in >>109733918's linked video, one problem is that they generally lived nomadic lifestyles, which would mean they would need expansive wilderness reserves to occupy rather than simple forested ranches. Finally, if Hoomans did seek to do such breeding, it'd take a very long time to take them down to that size. It would take time enough that they'd need to rely on other sources of protein in the meantime, which would defeat the purpose of selectively breeding sauropods for size.
tl;dr
Manageably "small" sauropods did exist, but they wouldn't have existed in /who/. Sauropods of expected size could hypothetically be bred to that level, but it would require a lot of care and it wouldn't be Hoomans doing it. For protein, it looks like coastal Hoomans are fishing as usual while the inland Hoomans go all in on beef (and maybe mutton).
>>109735024
>name suggestions
I'd like to propose the meteor player be named "Meteor Insurance". As for constellations, picrel filename I guess. Not as confident in the latter, I guess it depends on the player's model.

Sorry about the absence of fresh lore. Turns out committing to the bit of Hoomans not using the numerals 0-9 is more time-consuming to implement in the documents themselves than I thought. >What we know [about She Who Was Here Before]
She was the Pink Angel when she was a goddess.
She was worshipped by *they who were here before*.
There are no existing records of any contact between She and the Nameless One.
Her form was primarily gray in coloration.
Many of Her physical characteristics were evocative of v-fluke orca matriarchs.
The Pink Angel has no desire to reassume this form of divinity.
>Theories and hypotheses [about She Who Was Here Before]
She was unable to maintain Her divinity due to Her worshippers' being driven to the sea.
She was connected in some way to the v-fluke orcas found in the Sea of Scotos.
Assuming the above theory, the Pink Angel has kept this connection despite having lost her divinity.
The reason why the Pink Angel refuses to become a goddess once more is due to lingering resentment over Hoomanity's iconoclasm of She Who Was Here Before and censorship of records involving her or Her in the centuries that followed.
Alternatively, the reason the Pink Angel refuses to reassume the form of She is that she intends to assume a new form of divinity at some point in the future.

That's Butch, from the Sana-Fauna-Mumei "drawing new friends" collab! something something "the more things change" For those who are curious, Mumei drew the head, Fauna handled the torso and arms, while Sana was in charge of the lower body and legs. There were two other friends drawn during that stream, but I went for Butch as the example due to the face. Random fact: the underlying theme for Butch's design that the three followed was "a tasty friend", hence the legs.
In the context of that image, he's there to represent the corruption the Nameless One purged from Her self in self-preservation becoming its own entity. Such is the origin of all cryptids in /who/'s mythology, with the "named" cryptids in the rentry being exceptions in their own ways.

>Hooman Writings - Old Hootic
Back in the day, Hoomans didn't use the Holo Standard script. The fact they still refuse to use the standard numerals is evidence of this.
In Holo Standard's place, Hoomans used a runic system now known as Old Hootic. All Hooman documents dating back to their first age (E.S.) use Old Hootic. Shortly after the foundation of the Republic, though, the Script Standardization Act was passed, which saw Holo Standard take the place of Old Hootic in all subsequent public documents, with some exceptions.
The most prevalent of these exceptions is one that continues to this day: religious texts. Originally, all religious texts used Old Hootic, though as the years went on the public religious documents were re-transcribed to what they are today. Modern writings from Archivists and (on rare occasion) Morbs are still initially written in Old Hootic, only being rewritten in Holo Standard once reviewed by peers and deemed acceptable to release to the public. This is done as a sort of safeguard against information leaks, as knowledge of Old Hootic is nowadays lost information among the Hooman populace, with the exceptions of aforementioned religious officials as well as historians.
One Old Hootic term instantly recognizable among Hoomanity, though, is /ᚹᚺᛟ/. Such a term is regularly placed at the top and bottom of every governmental document.

Was inspired to write this after looking through this thread again and being reminded by >>109792002 that I haven't implemented /who/'s celebratory runes yet. Thank you for refreshing my memory!

Do the dodos supply the eggs, or are the eggs sourced from more conventional fare?

neat, this parallels nicely how latin went from commonly spoken to the domain of only clergymen during the middle ages.

We imported chickens a long time ago. Chickens don't tear up the ecosystem as much as pigs do. Chickens are a staple while dodos are a delicacy. Also dodos are in the middle of domestication as pets and livestock. Though dodos are more prized for their meat than eggs. Still dodo eggs are eaten both fried and boiled. Dodo eggs are three to four times bigger than a chicken egg. But rock dodos are also much bigger birds at around turkey-size.

And this dodo has a specific common name: the rock dodo. They are famous for climbing rocksides of beaches to reach the tide pools to eat shellfish. Their omnivourous diets of shellfish, seeds, and fruits gave rock dodos the intelligence and adaptability they needed to survive. Right now dodos are learning to hunt mice and rats. Of which plagues of stowaway rodents have devistated crops in the past. The dodos on the farm at least have been bred to have little temperment to humans. Though unlike doves their fear won't be completely bred out.

WORLD BUILDING THREAD BTW

I’m building your world.

If you're the one from earlier, I do have a few pieces of advice.
1) Posts don't have to be just one sentence or paragraph. When you write something and get ready to post it, wait half an hour before you hit Post. If you indeed are the one who posted a bunch earlier, exercise restraint. There are only so many posts a thread can take before it hits the bump limit, and you're far from the only one here.
2) This is a *worldbuilding* thread. Ideally, every post here is either fleshing out or talking about the world of Viti (or its previous iteration, Vitubia). Anything that doesn't do that should either prompt others to post lore, discuss *relevant* board-wide events like divegrass, or keep the thread afloat during dead hours (and no, it does not take 20 minutes for a thread to fall off this board). Any posts that don't fit any of those criteria in all likelihood don't belong here. If you want to talk about a vtuber outside the context of the project, there's probably another thread in the catalog where it's more appropriate to post it. If there's no appropriate thread, make one yourself! It certainly can't be worse than the seethe threads this board gets on the regular.
That being said, if there is a thread whose culture you have an understanding of, talk about it in the context of it as a nation in the world of Viti. Not sure where to start? No worries, just think of what the thread culture would translate to in this setting and try to figure out what kind of culture would crop up.
One good way to start if your nation isn't on the map is to do just that: figure out where in the world that general-as-country would go based on. It could be placed similarly to how /crrroc/ was placed in a wetland near /pcg/, or you could be like /miko/ or /who/ and choose a shape or location for your nation that's a bit more silly and take things from there.
Another thing you could do is figure out the manner of leadership in the nation, and/or the relevant chuuba(s)'s role in it. A quick note: unless a chuuba is confirmed /here/, she as a goddess does not physically appear in Viti. Or, failing that, you can look back through the thread and look through the posts for inspiration.
Please keep the rules of the board in mind when you post in the future and pay heed to points 1) and 2). If you are the self-admitted "Schizza" shitting up the thread, consider this my only olive branch to you. Stay on the topic of worldbuilding (unless we're on page 9 or 10) and if you feel the need to follow up on one of your own posts less than an hour after you sent a message and no one responded, step away and write it down somewhere else. If you have no interest in worldbuilding, there's the door. If you do stay and contribute to the project, exercise restraint and stay on topic.
