The entire speech to the judge and what he did in front of Kim and Marie shows that he's coming to terms with the life he's led and turning over the page just like Kim did even if it costs him most of the rest of his life.

I'd argue Chuck's constant doubting of his sincerity, his inner seethe at Jimmy, and Kim egging Jimmy on were what ultimately kept him going back to that lifestyle. There were multiple times where Jimmy was trying to stay on the straight and narrow but then Chuck would deride him or some easy opportunity would pop up after Chuck deriding him that made it easy for him to deviate to prove Chuck wrong or placate Kim.
