I dropped this as soon as I realized what I was reading was an ambitiously disguised ErenMikasa fanfic. The protagonist and the heroine have no chemistry and are forced into a romance that warps the entire story solely because the author was mindbroken by SnK.

This plan is insane. The past has changed; there's hardly a chance that the greatest minds of the past whom we've built our cultures, technology, philosophies, etc. from will be born and live the same lives. These "influential people" who stored their souls inside the tower will emerge into a completely alien world if they ever emerge. WTF??

You know the saying "you got to crack a few eggs to make an omelette"? They are trying to stop the omelette from being made entirely. They can't fix it but they can attempt to minimize the damage and hope things might kind of stabilize in the end. Its also possible they could try to manipulate certain events to occur and just pass on specific things too once this mess is been dealt with.

Ohhh. Garland isn't grabbing any random meteor. Or maybe she is, but Pope is double-checking?Demi said Garland's meteor changed course after their attack stopped her. Druid spaceship? It could mean that Garland's power isn't "controlling meteors" like Oscar's wasn't "regeneration."

...kind of, but not exactly. Akira seemed genuinely frustrated with Lucas's defiance and dissatisfaction with the world and his place in it. The pope is directly telling Lucas, "the reason you can't be a musician is because of this time war", probably to guide Lucas to realizing the solution: "If I just conquer all the towers, as quickly as I can, there's no more war for me to fight!". Without even realizing this is what the Pope wants him to do.
>>
>>
>>
>>286388451
Like the pope said, all it takes is one fucker with more ambition than sense to fuck everything up for everyone
It's why Faustian bargains can't exist IRL, there would be a jackass doing that shit every other day, hell every other hour, and fucking the world up
>>
>>286388451
If somebody didn't have a tower then they would be completely annihilated if anyone else sent theirs back instead of having a tiny chance of preserving themselves and their culture.
Plus The Empire started this time warand doesn't care about the cost you're describing, everyone else is just responding to them.
>>
>>
The Empire, holy shit
>only had a small head start before the others
>at least EIGHT other nations have been battling this ONE for over a THOUSAND years
>8 vs 1 and the rest are still struggling
>deploys OP players like Akira on the regular
>>
>>286390042
That's not what a Faustian Bargain though. This is basically MAD (like with nukes in real life) except unlike real life someone actually pulled the trigger and wiped out humanity. The rich people who uploaded themselves into the towers are the equivalent of how jingoistic warmongers during the Cold War thought that they could wait it out in bunkers while the poors all got flash fried. The tower folk are essentially just the Enclave from Fallout.

Presumably just like in real European history, whenever one power started to get too dominant the others would gang up on them. The empire stands alone currently probably because they had the samefag ramus to make hundreds of thousands of nearly free soldiers, and more recently, the strategic nuclear bomb ramus. Loading up their tower administrator with a bunch of Ramus powers and fielding him as a frontline combatent is very reckless and risky, but I guess they thought that the Garland needed the best possible protection.

>>

Oh yeah definitely. The confidence that only the poors would die probably made it far easier for whatever sociopath pulled the trigger on the Time Towers to do so. Hell even today you get rich people openly discussing letting the end of the world happen from various causes because they think that they personally will be able to ride it out in New Zealand or however.

>>
>>286387574so by sapling candidates they mean Ramus with powers related to time right? Lucas and Zoe are both candidates and Zoe has a time related power. Lucas fucked up Akiras future sight when he flowered and that was never explained so I think this is a clue that his power isn't empathy like it says later but to control people's future. An anon a couple threads ago said his power is to decide people's fate and I think he was right.

Come to think of it, isn't it weird that he's using Zoe's Mom's face for this? I guess it would piss Luca off if he used Gerhart or the mirror's face, but he coulda just used someone random.
>>286389127
Ya know, he's doing really well for someone who's never ridden a bike before. I guess he had a week to practice, but still, that ground is not even.

I always loved how honest the Pontiff is. I honestly love his character. Really refreshing take on the whole "manipulative mastermind" trope.

>1200s age
>Already can grasp grandfather's paradox & butterfly effect after being introduced to the concept of time travel minutes ago
>Probably no exposure to fiction the get introduced to the concept earlier to mull it over.
Kinda hard to believe that, though you can say that the presence of spires accelerated education, it's still a reach imo.
>>
>>
>>286392762
People in the past are much smarter than you would think. The learned would have known about things like the water cycle and the moon's gravity causing the tides and had a decent estimate of the planet's diameter and circumference before the towers even arrived 1200 years ago. Plus, the existence of people with the power to manipulate time probably would have influenced culture and fiction within the altered ("branched", I suppose) timeline, resulting in such ideas being less novel.
>>
>>
>>
>>286392338
Never mind not riding a bike, he's literally never seen one in his life before. Between that and >>286392762 I almost wonder if there's more going on or if it's just to let the narrative flow better, especially with the moment wherePoppy plays basketballlater
>>
>>
>>286393240Lucas is so similar to Akira's wife that something might have happened. It might be far-fetched but my theory is that Lucas will interact with one of the Spire time travel devices at some point and send his Flowering breakdown back in time. I say this because the Flowering ignored all predictions and before it arrives you can see Lucas' light showing up from offscreen.
>>
>>
>>286392762
Lucas is smart, creative, and fast. Under pressure too. He probably didn't give a shit about the tactics Gerhart told him about. But Lucas still comes out with "Udo, does your blood power work on farm animals?" or "Torch the forest" or "Use my lights to measure distance for the catapults."
The characters just don't spend time talking about it.
>>
>>
>>286388646
You're competing against multiple towers though, and they're theoretically all against you for being the first to push the button. With a natural barrier and decent enough resources, they can fair much better.
>>
>>
>>286390388
They only recently got the Facsimile ramus (at least relative to the time they've been active). For whatever reason, the 1000 years of war were weak and they probably didn't "plan" enough Ramus in the earlier days to make big swings (because Ramus don't exist pre-tower).
>>
>>286395624
It could also be that powerful Rami being evenly distributed could standstill the war (a nation having Heavenfall, another having the Looking Glass, etc). If you don't have something to trump card the other faction, it might be better to stay put and work on improving your own standing without going into open war, otherwise you could lose and have your Spire conquered. Keep in mind the Spires and their rulers are at war, but not necessarily the countries the Spires are in, whose people have no idea of the true war.

>For whatever reason, the 1000 years of war were weak and they probably didn't "plan" enough Ramus in the earlier days to make big swings (because Ramus don't exist pre-tower).
First timer but now I'm thinking for the first few hundred years pontiffs would be focused on conquering and controlling their spire's territory, right? A spire and a pontiff just showing up out of the blue won't make people suddenly decide to listen to them. At the same time they'd have to find rami who would have started being born and change the culture so everyone worships the spire and won't kill branched babies at birth for being deformed. I can see this taking hundreds of years for pontiffs to do.

I'm not sure the pope actually intends to recharge his tower after winning the war. He's exceptionally pragmatic but also seems, I dunno, tired? He's been playing this fire emblem bullshit for 1,200 years, I think he's ready to wrap things up. Maybe that's why he tolerates Lucas's insubordinate behavior, he commiserates with his attitude towards the state of the world and their role in it.
>>
>>
>>
>>286412166
If it was just Italia and Britannia I could believe that, but there are 7 others out there playing the game too (Or is it 6 since Gallia's pontiff left his post?). How does he know one of them wouldn't go rogue once the empire threat is gone?
>>
>>
>>286412329
Maybe he intends to take control of the garland power to nuke the towers. Also here he says that taking out the empire tower would in some way limit the functionality of the other towers, though why that would be the case is not clear.
