While I agree that it fits Himitsu's theme perfectly more than what Onegai has shown so far, Ichikawa said he gives the characters those traits because of his experience writing with comedy anime so I wouldn't expect the Onegai to be too much different.

Even if it was extremely obvious, the ring-wako mystery kinda needs to be there for the whole himitsu aspect of the show since it allows for there to be 2 overarching plot lines; the Sarashina plotline, which results in events like Vivi becoming an aipri, and the overarching plotline of Ring's identity, which allows her to bond with Tsumugi

This is just straight up wrong. I feel like all of the new idles (especially Vivi, Ring, and Subaru) have simple but great relationship dynamics that only amplify the story's main themes. They all do great with their granted screentime, and honestly, if we just stuck to the main cast from Season one, things would have started to get stale because they can only do the same relationship drama between the pre-existing characters so much before you feel like you're just watching the same thing over and over again. Also, this show is just one big tournament arc, and introducing brand new characters is pretty much one of the main things tournament arcs do. Most of the beloved tournament arcs in shonen anime are beloved due to the new characters they bring in that stick with the audience (The Varia in Hitman Reborn, Tenshinhan in the 22nd world tournament, Gaara, Lee, and Neji during the chunin exams, and so on)

It's a mirror of Mii's story: when Mii was young she wanted to be an AiPri that makes everyone happy which is the same conclusion Ring reaches when she was younger after performing the 5 buzzlume changes. Meanwhile circumstances forced both characters to go travel and find a new dream to pursue, with Wako it's a literal identity crisis after losing her memories but for Mii it's also an identity crisis since she realizes how dependent on Himari she is. It's important to show another character going through similar things that Mii is going through even if Wako/Rings' is more extreme.

On the contrary, I think S2 continues Himari's story in a really engaging and interesting way. Like, the Nagisa imouto episode that forces Himari to reflect upon her old S1 fixation with winning and then to move on upon realizing that it isn't important to her anymore is a natural progression from her S1 story that is extremely satisfying from a character development standpoint. Then, as the season moves on, you get more of a focus on Himari suppressing her growing grief and anxiety over Mii leaving until those buried emotions blow up in her face in AiPri, which is a plotline that is extremely reminiscent of Chii's arc in S1, once again reinforcing the mirrored Himari/Chii parallel running throughout the first season.
