Having experienced both I can testify that is true but only for so long. Eventually, being alone is worse.
I handled the first decade fine. After fifteen years I felt being alone was worse than heartbreak could be. And I continued to be alone for another five years, rounding out the second decade.

Yes, the first year after a heartbreak is the most brutal thing you will experience but you will eventually forget about it and realize you get to search for newer, hotter girls.
